I just thought it was so that Asad doesn't snap out of his Zoya trance because of Ayaan having sat right next to him. Asad would have noticed Ayan taking a seat. Similarly Ayan would have noticed Asad's face and gaze. The director was smart by keeping in mind that detail.
This is one of those times I feel like we're over analyzing lol. What you said makes sense though. Asad is closer so he gets to be the one closest to her and Ayan can only love her from afar, i.e. without any real closeness to her. Zoya will only have that deep bond with Asad, no one else.
I just love love love this thread! I get a real kick out of foreshadowing and finding symbolism. I'm definitely following this post.
