Priyanka, AshRun,

I was up late last night when I saw the news flash of the girl's death. Since the 17th, I've teared up every single night reading about this horrific crime, her struggle and will to live, and in the last couple of days, her losing battle.

I spent all day glued to the Internet and television watching people from all walks of life talk about this tragedy, views of expert panelists. I considered going to a protest march in my city but was too depressed. I couldn't get myself to meet friends or family today. I feel I'm mourning the death of a sister.

My husband finally got me to switch channels, and we headed out for a drive and some ice cream. And we talked about what was wrong with our society... At all levels, starting with how we bring up kids, how we have in the past had this chalta hai, hota hai attitude to everything as long as it doesn't affect someone we know. In our silence and tolerance, we are as guilty as the perpetrators of crimes against women...

I'm sorry that I didn't act or speak up sooner, that it took such a horrific crime for me to introspect and even consider doing more than just talking to my immediate circles of influence. But it's a new year in 2 days, and I have a new sense of resolve to see how I can contribute meaningfully.

Pri, doff my hat to you... for the work you do.

I completely understand the way you feel. I wish this was a bad dream that I could forget and it seriously kills me inside to realize that this has actually happened. It's so unbelieveable...I mean a woman has no value in today's society.Just look at Bollywood, there are so many item songs, all have very obscene lyrics, and the way women are dressing in those songs is beyond sad. I am not conservative, people can wear whatever the heck they want, but the fact that the movies these days and the boldness of the songs is definitely one of the causes of such incidents. The biggest factor, though is upbringing. The parents of those rapists deserve to die as well. I know I'm making a very frank and bold statement, but it takes some really filthy upbringing to do what those men have done.
I agree adeeti, SALUTE to Priyanka for what she does for women. However, I make dua that no women ever has to go to a shelter. I think that the best day on earth will be when women shelters are empty and homes are filled with women who are respected.

I waseriously thinking the same thing!THey are so bloody annoying...they dnt bring anything to the show what so ever as all they do is dance and sing along to filmy tunes just randomly without no rhyme or reason...they seve no purpose to the show or it's story line.I am just finding the whole of that household just plain irritating and boooring, even Aayan is beginning to get on my nerves and none of the actor's acting skills are even up to the mark and I so agree with your suggestions...they need to find a way to get rid of them.

sorry to say but even hindu, sikh, and muslim family's in the US still think the old fashioned way...yeah we are allowed to work and pick he career we want ...but if ur saying go out all night or hang out with friends ..we have many restriction on us in the US as well from the parents..it is actually harder on us here becuase we have to live two cultures and we have to balance them...and some thing just don't seem fair. i actualy think the show is going fine the kids in rashids house to have dreams but are to scared to pursue them because they dont know how their parent might react ot they might get angry beause of old thinking...but slowly things will change the kids will react. thecharacters are played perfectly..nuzrat she dressed in jeans how she wanted to when she was out...i live in the US and yea we can wear dressed but not the mini ones for example my friend wears short dresses now because her parents dont know becuase she lives in a dorm..that was something real they showed in the show...nikhat has a dark complection and people amke fun of that ..well people in our community the US still do the same things here as well so life is still hard and the show is showing things in the right manner acording to me, but that is just my point of view.

I can not say that you are the only one that feels such strongly about those children. I have wrote so much about them being a waste of space in this show in another post! I am not sure why they even show us their scenes. I have to skip half the episode to get to the scenes I actually want to watch and by that time the show is over!

I think we're gonna see Ayaan change when he falls in love with Zoya. The locks will be trimmed, the aawara attitude will change and he will have some maqsad in life. Right now he's a useless bum. Humera really has her priorities misplaced.

Nikhat...boy does she annoy me. I can't stand her. Can she tone down on the sharmana for god's sake.

Nuzhat...does not quite annoy me. Since she has that nerdy look going on with her, maybe they can show later that she wants to go to professional school and mamuji isn't pleased. It would be nice to see her struggle and make it happen.

I wonder what Najma studies.Dilshad recently mentioned an embroidery project? I don't want to discount the value of her studies, but given that Dilshad is such an understanding mom and that Asad, though conservative would still be supportive of her pursuits, I wish they showed her to be doing something unusual for the conservative, Bhopal society she hails from-like maybe studying architecture like Asad did.

Oh well. The show is new and lot's of things remain to be unraveled.

You have hit the spot. My cousins that live in India think we have it so much easier and I guess in some way or another we do have some benefits, but that has never stopped my parents from being strict. Yes, some of us are not as submissive and posses our own thoughts but I don't think people understand how hard it is to live in between two cultures. Because you are raised in an American culture which makes your thoughts somewhat differ from your parents and that causes so many problems for us. What you may think is right your parents may think is completely wrong and then come the stories "When I was young and living in India we use too ...(fill in the blank)..." That's why I can relate to the attitude that Zoya has, and to be honest some of the things she says in this show about women always being wrong to Asad are some things I have personally said to my strict relatives and parents because it can be just that annoying when people are so judgmental just because you are from America or any other foreign place. I think people have this stereotypical view of what people from foreign countries live like. It's just as silly as us thinking that people in India actually live like what were are shown in shows.

dear adi...don't worry you are doing your part by thinking about it...I have been numb since last night...couldn't sleep the whole night yesterday...was in the Internet back and forth...tried spending time in IF but nothing helped...just held my daughter very close. I Just cannot believe she is gone...I so wished she would survive this...every US channel is airing the news...ppl are shocked.

Just wanted to let you guys know that in a recent article India is mentioned as the worst and unsafe place for women among the G20 countries.

Thanks Adi...it's very difficult for me to bear the pain of these women...I feel i am helpless at times...but each and every women are fighters and they inspire me in so many ways.

oh Ash...no please...no salute please. I am really grateful to you guys for giving me all this love and I truly appreciate it...But yes, we should all wish that things get better for women everywhere...I just wish instead of lecturing and giving out baseless condolences they should instead change the laws to protect women and their rights.

@princessjojo- Oh so thatsss what Najma is doing hmm wonder how I missed that, but yes, completely agree that I wish they'd shown her doing something unconventional. Ughh as for Ayaan I hate it when they show that a guys life finds direction only when he has a woman to impress.Hopefully he will find one sooner!! yup, I know there is a lot to unfold, but this show is not going in the direction that I wanted it to go to. It is no doing a good job of clearing misconceptions or addressing the problems of youngsters. I mean I would have loved to be patient to see where it's going to go if I had some hope, but after watching 3/4 of Gul's 2nd show and 1/4 of her 1st show LOL, I kinda see where this is heading and that's not a good place. I DO NOT wish to bash the show or dampen anyone's enthusiasm, but as a viewer I can say that, I'm not very hopeful. right now I'm watching because I like discussing with you guys :) and because I have holidays lol 😆 After that I might catch up on weekends or during spring break etc.!
@Priyanka- No dear, you do deserve the respect. I hope I get a chance to do something like that in life. Yup, Mom told me about a report which ranked America as #1 in the world where most rapes occur and India as #2 . That is sad to read because I'm an Indian-American 😕 I was watching the news and they were listing the cases that occured in India wherein the accused escaped and it makes me want to smash the screen!!
