I understand that this is a show about muslims and since asad is shown to be a religious character however not everything said and done in the show will be a reflection of islam. asad telling her sister not to wear jeans at the lounge is bc in his opinion jeans is against the "tazeeb" of a woman. as you said he is conservative. but this really has very little to do with islam

in islam women are supposed to wear a hijab which neither asads mom or sister wear. i think they are simply conservative.

i dont think asad is a hypocrite but yes he is conservative. n i think wearing a pant suit to work doesn't make him a hypocrite either. this doesnt mean i agree with asads logic of not wearing jeans bc i dont agree however he also isnt a hypocrite

To be honest, I don't see why the word Islam religion comes in at all...

Because ashad is typical Indian minded guy. This is culture let that be any religion in India.
If you take Islam or hindu guy, they surly wouldn't want tere sister to go to night club wearing small cloths or come home in middle of the night unless they are very western or English.

Wearing triditional cloths in India represent there culture and shows a girls modesty. They are not English who can we're short infront of there brother or father!!!
So here we are seeing typical Indian protective guy...

That's my take... It's culture than any religion...

If ashad told Nazma to we're head scuff etc... Than I would say its religious... And that can be argued tout here... I see nothing except a simple soap with just simply religion being changed... So why so much inputs of religion?

Enjoy the show!

A round of applause for this post. 👏

Religion and culture are two very different things.

Culture differs from place to place the culture in India is different from that of any other country. Forbidding of wearing western clothes was simply to protect his sister because Bhopal might not be a safe place. There is ni point in dragging religion in this. Did he say, don't wear this because Islam doesn't permit it?

This is what I worry about. Since it's Islam, people will bring out the worst judgement. The prejudice around this religion is a disadvantage to this show. People will forget it's fiction and jump their guns.

i've been doing rounds on this forum for quite a few days now. and the 'don't wear jeans' comment created quite a buzz eh?
I loved your topic because I found it sensible especially the part where you mentioned the norms have always been stricter for females than for males.. Well it is how it is and it's not restricted to islamic religion. Women are disadvantaged(if that's the right word) in many aspects by many factions. From what has been shown Asad is a conservative guy and if he'd have right away agreed to Najma wearing jeans without protest even if he himself wears western attire to office then that would be awkward because that's not him.. I don't see hypocrisy in that. In terms of women he certainly holds old school of thought and that is what was trying to be portrayed i think.. Anywho, he only had her best interest at heart. He wasn't looking down at his sister or suppressing her just because she is a woman..
