Why did Abhay fall for Pia?

Okay hello everyone. I am terrible at introductions so I am going to keep it short. I was a teen when PKYEK aired and I was obsessed with it. By obsessed I mean dangerously obsessed to the point of fighting with my cousins who used to make fun of me for watching it 😆Back then I was too besotted by it to notice the flaws that were more than obvious. Now whenever I rewatch it,I find the inconsistencies glaring back at me even though my fondness for the show is ever lasting. It was a pleasant surprise for me to find out that this forum is still active and people are discussing the show. While I was a part of IF since long,I wasn't mature enough to join or frequent the forum back then. But that's all in the past.So I sincerely hope that my presence over here won't bother anyone. I just want to interact😳

Coming to the topic, this is a question which has been bothering me since years. We were made to believe that AbhIya were soulmates but was it actually convincing? One could see why Pia fell for Abhay because, honestly, who wouldn't fall in love with him? He had every trait that deemed him worthy of love. But Pia? I'm sorry but she was one of the most shallow and annoying characters in the show. I have nothing against flawed characters. Infact I do enjoy seeing a well written character with flaws because it is fascinating to watch their development. However,Pia,on the other hand only deteriorated as the story progressed. If she was irritating prior to the leap then post leap she was completely unbearable.

This is why I am unable to buy Abhay's deep love for her. Was she truly worth everything he went through for her sake? I mean I couldn't notice a single trait about her that is admirable or relatable. She wasn't intelligent. Her foolishness used to leave me baffled. She wasn't sensitive to others' pain which was evident in the incident where in she impersonated Maithili. The only exception was her fighting for Maya but that was just it. Heck she didn't even have that one trait which every ITV female lead possesses irrespective of their other flaws,i.e., self respect.Girlie literally latched herself on to Abhay even after getting insulted and humiliated multiple times🤦‍♀️

What was it about her that drove Abhay crazy? Sure he was drawn to her due to her resemblance with his first love but after getting to know her personality,no sane man or vampire would have stuck by her side 😆 On the other hand,I completely understand why Jeh fell in love with Pia. It started as an attraction and soon took the shape of an obsession. He had himself stated that what he felt was nothing more than a desire which he called love.Even the human Abhayendra's love for the then human Maithili made sense because it was an innocent first love and Maithili was a sweet and kind hearted individual prior to becoming a vampire.

Tbh now when I think of it,Alina was a better match for Abhay. That girl was subjected to humiliation and abuse by her own family and yet never let it affect her inherent nature which was compassionate.Abhay's love could have motivated and healed her while giving her the courage to stand against her family. Additionally a vampire and a werewolf scion would have been one helluva power couple.

First of all welcome... & Keep visiting.. this forum need members!!!

Now coming to your question, didn't think about it earlier ..

And now when u have asked this , my opinion is that Abhay's love was unconditional.. he didn't care what he is getting in return.. he even didn't attack Maithili or hated her to the core , when she returned as vampire and tried to harm him or Pia.

Abhay get attracted to Pia because of her look/Face (Maithili) but then the attachment grow and love blossom 🌼 ... He tried to stay away but u know there is a saying *jis chij se jitna dur bhaago, vo utne hi pas aayegi*

And once they come close.. Abhay always loved her.. without any expectations or desire..

Our vampire Abhay was more human and emotional than any other human..

First of all welcome to this form

And about your question I can say only one thing that abhay always wanted love but when he became vampire he used to think that no one can accept him as a vampire too and when pia shows intrest in him he was scared to share that he is a vampire because he doesn't want to lose her but when pia accept him his love for her increased and he fall in love with her deeply madly lol I hope you get your answer

Welcome to the forum! 🤗 It’s so nice to see new people join us ❤️

I have to agree that when I watched the show as a teen back then I was like wow, this is so perfect, but now I see those were rose-tinted glasses. It wasn’t perfect, and their relationship did have many flaws, centered around trust and communication. That was really annoying

But like the others said before me, Abhay’s love was unconditional, and he didn’t know if he could ever love again as a vampire. I guess when Piya accepted him for who he was (after the whole fire incident 😆), maybe he realized that a vampire like him can also love.

He’s very kind-hearted, and I think that’s where it all started. Was it a good choice, I personally would disagree. 😆

Hey Lawless, nice to see u here! Was just remembering our Deewangi chat on Futoor's thread yesterday 😆 Welcome to the Forum and I hope you stay and chat with us, we love healthy discussions and even some trolling here 😆 In fact, the forum back in 2010 was full of teenagers who went to great lengths to defend the show and their characters, you won't have to face any of that now!

PKYEK was the only television series I watched from the beginning to the end and was emotionally invested to an unhealthy level. It started off to just watch it only to troll it (I was a Twihard) but then I grew to love it. I still cherish all the memories and watch it very frequently on Hotstar!

Now coming to the show, I realised there are tonnes of inconsistencies my first time rewatching as an adult. However despite all the loopholes, unnecessary drama and occasional dragging of the storyline, I still feel it was the best college themed show we ever had, with everything fitting so well together. The actors were all perfect for their parts, the music was incredible and the dialogues and direction (esp those initial episodes under Ekta's supervision) was brilliant.

But I gotta say, your question has popped into my head several times over the years too.

According to me the writers did not really think much about how to make AbhIya soulmates because it wasn't needed. You see, when our shows are announced, its usually with the lead actors and they are already endgame, dead or alive. Unless there is a third wheel who causes mayhem in the fandom.

So it was understood by us that Abhay and Piya were endgame, no matter how many people came in between them.

That being said, now I really wish they would have shown what Abhay saw in Piya. Because lets be real, what was not to love in Abhay? He had every damn quality that would make women swoon. The man had a heart, even though he kept it hidden under all those tough layers. The extent he went to for not only Piya, but all her friends and family members, even though he could not stand most of them.

And let me tell you when I rewatched the show, I realised Piya was the WORST character on the show. Other than the Maya incident as you rightly pointed out, what was it about her that made Abhay fall for her? Sure she was sweet, helpful, focussed and was truly self-made. But what happened to all these traits after she came to Dehra Dun?

She lost her dignity and spine after the Maya fiasco and became this annoying little bug in Abhay's life. She did not respect his privacy, never gave him time, would make googly eyes at him even though he would insult her and never listened to him!

What did she do? She always did the opposite of whatever he said: he told her to stay away from Sid, the forest, Jeh and asked her not to interfere and find out who Maithili was. But Piya had no respect for boundaries. The man opened upto her about his biggest, darkest secret, and she freaking ran away from him! When he saved her from the fire and revealed his vampire face, she pushed him away! Piya, you wanted to know the truth, and now you run away? And decide to leave the city? Seriously? Thats how insensitive you are?

There wasn't an ounce of self-respect in her body. Makes me cringe now.

Abhay initially was fascinated yet angry at her because she looked like the woman he loved. It was exactly like the doppleganger situation of TVD. But at least in that show you could clearly see the difference between Elena and Katherine's personalities from the very beginning. It was evident why both the Salvatore brothers fell for her. And when Delena became endgame, the reasons were right in front of us. The writers of that show got us to ship them, root for them. Unlike PKYEK where we just knew Abhay-Piya were endgame.

But as the show progressed, I could only spot reasons for Abhay to stay away from Piya. And I do blame the writers for this.

There was no reason that Abhay would chose Piya based on her behaviour and personality. There as nothing attractive. She literally made all the guys around her go gaga over her, behaved like she had no idea and then would gently let them down (a.k.a Jeh and Kabir).

Post the leap Piya was nothing like the girl we met in the first episode. If anything, she was worse and a true form of walking migraine The writers just put them together because they were supposed to be together and we knew it, otherwise no way would someone like Abhay fall for someone like Piya in real life.

Abhay had been on the planet for a hundred years, he must have met so many people. And of course he must have known some genuinely warm and beautiful ladies over the years. So the writers should have actually focussed on showing Piya to be different than those ladies, in a good way.

All the other girls barring Panchi and Piya were much more consistent and better. While rewatching it even came to my mind that had the writers redeemed T and made her a better person (a la Caroline of TVD), she would've made a better match for Abhay. They would've been a badass vampire couple. Remember cold and stoic Abhay from episode 6 and pair him with a sweeter yet superior vampire T. Muuuuuch better. In fact a redeemed T would've made a better girlfriend for either Abhay or Sid since she wasn't a hypocrite. She liked men based off their looks and money. That was redeemable.

But Piya seemed to say one thing and do the exact opposite.

So all in all, you are right, there was no reason given why Abhay fell for her.

In fact she made him into an overly sensitive emotional fool.

The only reason I don't ship Alina with anyone's because she never got the chance at a normal life. Had she lived a couple of years finding herself, she could then find love. But in that case, I'd have liked to see her with someone warm and normal like Kabir.

Welcome to the forum! Even I am a new member too (as I wasn't also here from the initial days of Pkyek). 😂

When this show aired I was in my 8th standard. As a teenager I was HE**A obsessed with this show. I stopped going out from my house after 8pm of week for 1.5 years! Did anyone do the same? Please let me know!😂🤣

Yes, that time this show was perfect in my eyes. Now, as an adult I can see the loopholes pretty much clear. But it can't fade away my love for Abhiya even for a bit, with every other character.❣

Coming to the point, yes Piya was hell annoying and foolish; as a logical being I hate this qualities in a person. But think it from Abhay's perspective. As everyone says here already, his love is unconditional. I want to add something more with it. Do we really need a reason to love someone all the time? When we fall in love there is nothing but love. For example, parents love towards their child, despite knowing he/she is annoying or foolish. I know, many people can argue that it's not the same thing. May be context is different, but the emotion, love is same for everyone, from husband-wife to owner-pet. Hence, Abhay fell in love with Piya, despite knowing that she was annoying and stupid. Bcz it's love afterall. In his eyes her annoying nature is more beautiful than anything else. Another thing I must add, Piya accepted Abhay the way he was. It accelerated the process of his fall for her, deeply.

I hope, my explanations make sense to everyone!😁😀

Btw, it's from off topic, are you a kdrama fan (IU as your profile picture, user name is a name of a kdrama, that's why I am asking)? 😅

@red: Absolutely! I am just glad to know I wasn't the only maniac who did this 🤣 If I had to go out with my parents then I would make sure I get to watch TV there, whether it was a hotel, restaurant and house 🤣 And most times other fans would assemble and watch too 🤣 And if I missed the night telecast then I would read the WU on IF, be up at 5 am or 6:30 am (the telecast time would change) and watch the show 🤣 My school life and routine literally revolved around PKYEK 🤣

Honestly it was Vivian and Sukirti's chemistry that made the pairing work, PIya's writing alone was enough to piss us off.

There's just one question I'd like to ask you...you might fall for a person who has multiple flaws and try to make it work because you think love is enough. Give it a few years (or in some case a few months) and you will know what that would be like. You wouldn't be able to stand the person and would hate his guts. Those break ups are usually very messy. I myself had come out of a toxic relationship where I thought I could live with the guy's flaws, help him become a better person etc but that just cost me scars and pains. The way Piya treated Abhay in the case of Sid, Maithili, Jeh etc...there was no way she would not do something much more hurtful in the future. And Piya did not accept him, she forced him to show her the vampire side and later reacted in the worst way possible. She did such stupid things and did not trust the guy who saved her multiple times that it turned Abhay into an emotional wreck.

In the real world, Abhay and Piya would not stand a chance, and would probably have divorced within the first couple years given Piya's irrational behaviour. On the other hand, Misha-Kabir, Danish-Panchi and Ruhi-Angad would've still be going strong, with kids and everything.

So the question is: would you still chose to live with a person for the rest of your life when said person has done extremely hurtful things to you? If you answer no, then you know exactly what was wrong with Abhay-Piya.
