I know most of us liked Piya Jaiswal better than Piya Dobrial. While Piya Jaiswal was portrayed as the poor, simple, naive, lonely yet a very strong girl, Piya Dobrial was portrayed as the rich, spoilt, bratty girl. I was all the while wondering, why there should be such a shift in a character portrayal. I mean but for the change in the surname, that she had met her father and accepted into his family, and looks to some extent, what was the need to show a change in the attitude. I don't mean to say that Piya Dobrial is all bad when compared to angelic Piya Jaiswal. I meant to say that what was the need to give such an introduction to Piya Dobrial when later she did not have much to contribute in the show.
Then I remembered my own words when I said the story is more of Abhay's PKYEK.
I don't mean to say that its not Piya's or Abhiya's love story. It is ofcourse Abhiya's love story. But it was Abhay who wanted to stay away and it was he who had to change this perception and decide to accept her and be with her.
The situation reminds me of my favourite song

Though Piya was shocked at the revelation of Abhay's truth, she accepted him and loved him to that extent that she never thought even once of how she could live with him. That seemed immaterial to her. Her fights with him were also mainly because of his keeping things from her, just like any other girl friend who fights with her boy friend, lover. But for Abhay, from day one, he knew the difference between him and her and he was always conscious of this difference.
While Piya wanted to be with him from the time she accepted his identity and loved him, but for Abhay it was a long journey from the time he knew he loved her unconditionally till the time he decided he would do anything just to be with her.
Piya apni kadam chal chuki thi, ab Abhay ki hi baari hai.
So the story of PKYEK is more of Abhay's journey -
1.Hatred for her resemblance of Maithli and reminding him constantly of the pain
2.Accepting and tolerating her presence in his part of world
3.Not able to ignore her attempts to bring justice to Maya and save Panchi
4.Standing up for her in her fight of justice
5.Taking the responsibility of her life
6.Being her only support system yet convincing himself that he is only protecting a lonely girl
7.Giving in to his heart that he is very much in love with her and no matter he has to stay way, would never let her die and in this process he would never mind giving up his life.
Piya Jaiswal could make Abhay take steps towards their love only to this far.
For Abhay to take further steps, she had to become Piya Dobrial.
I will, for the time being, leave Sid, Metz, Jeh and other supernatural evils and concentrate only on Piya's problems and Abhay's support.
Piya Jaiswal's life was not an easy one. First her father abandoned her and her mother. Then Piya lost her mother and had to live the life of an orphan. She reconciled to the fact and had decided to move on. But there she sees her father happily settled with his family and the irony that her only and close friend turned out to be her step sister. She was angry with what her father did to her family, yet she could not take out her anger. She treasured the friendship of Misha and Panchi so much that she never could afford to lose them and decided to forgo her rights as a daughter. She had to suffer all the time when she silently witnessed the happy moments of her father and his family. More than her hatred towards her father, you could see her yearning to be a part of that family, to belong to that family.
She did not want this to repeat with Maya again. So she decided to fight for her, though Maya was reluctant. When she knew that the person who cheated Maya was to marry Panchi, she did not even care for her reputation. She would go to any extent to get justice to Maya and Panchi.
It was not over with Danish getting his punishment. Problem started once again with her maternal uncle Praveen Jaiswal who turned out to be the College Trustee, influential enough to deny her scholarship.
Once the problem with her uncle was sorted out, her father came to know of her identity.
She got her chance to take on her father, yet how much it pained her. It did not bring back anything which she lost.
It was she who told Madhu and her father not to reveal who she was. But how much it pained her when her father acted ignorance infront of Misha on seeing Piya's mothers picture.
How the tears welled up in her eyes at her own helplessness to witness her father's wedding anniversary celebrations while her mother was just shown as an old forgotten classmate.
And when the truth finally got out, she had to face all the hatred from Misha which she always wanted and tried her best to avoid.
Piya Jaiswal was oblivious of the supernatural dangers, but she had her own problems. She never could share this with any other friend, because they (Kabir, Ruhi) were close to the Dobrials and Misha's best friends. She would never tell them something which she could never tell Misha or Panchi.
But she had a very strong shoulder to lean on, her only support system, her Abhay Raichand. He was the only one she had, whom she could share her problems freely. He was always there for her to wipe off her tears and console her.
When it comes to Abhay, he felt for her. Even if Sid never entered their lives, Abhay would have never left Piya writing off her problems as trivial ones.
Like he once tells in his mind "Mein yahan se jaane hi waala tha, par jaa nahi paaya. Takhleef mein tum thi aur mein kheencha chala aaya"
The moment her eyes started shedding tears, he would be there to wipe them off. He had taken his steps till this far for her.
Now being accepted wholeheartedly by her whole family and having lost her memory on what happened, Piya Jaiswal transformed into Piya Dobrial.
She had family, money, looks,name, fame. She had the whole world to herself. She did not have any problems. Atleast the not the ones Piya Jaiswal had to face. She did not need any ones support. She could have any man. Yet Piya Dobrial wanted only Abhay Raichand. No matter how much he turned her down, she knew that he was the one for her and he was the one she longed to be with.
Abhay was no longer her support system, but her whole system.
When he tells her that he would be there as a friend when ever she is in need, she blatantly refuses and says that she does not need him in her hour of need, but she wants him all the time. Abhay knows this in his heart and he challenges Jeh - "Tumhe kya lagta hai , Piya jab yeh jaanegi ki main usse kitna pyaar karta hoon, toh woh tab bhi tumhe pyaar karegi, No Jeh, sab log jaanten hain ki aaj bhi Piya ki dil mein sirf aur sirf mere liye jagah hai"
So it had to be the Piya Dobrial who had to convince Abhay to take the balance steps so that they could be one. While the CVs had done full justice to the character of Piya Jaiswal in showing how could make Abhay take his first steps, they failed to give a proper story to Piya Dobrial to make him take the balance steps. Whatever, Piya Dobrial successfully managed to convince Abhay that she did not need him or his support any more, but she wanted him and he was her right. He had Alina and the potion. He could get all the powers with that. Yet he wanted to use the potion only to become human so that he could be with Piya. The CVs failed to show us how Piya Dobrial could have convinced him to take this step.
