'My confidence is my strength'-Sukirti Kandpal

Wednesday, May 11, 2011 | 6:07:58 PM IST (+05:30 GMT) 'My confidence is my strength'-Sukirti Kandpal

Telly Buzz in conversation with Sukirti Kandpal who is going to represent India at the International beauty pageant contest...

Sukirti Kandpal is in cloud nine these days as she is going international to represent India at the Miss India International contest which is going to be held in Dubai.

Sukirti is gearing up for the tough competition where she will be facing contestants from all round the world.

Telly Buzz caught up with the actor and had a chat where she shared her excitement with us.

First of all, congratulations for being the lucky one to get picked up to represent India.
Thank you so much.

Could you share with us what title is it and how were you approached for this?
The title is for Miss India World Wide, and the contest happens every year and for the past three years it has been happening in South Africa and this year it is in Dubai. So they wanted a girl who could represent India and I think it is a girl's dream to compete for a beauty pageant and when the opportunity came up, I didn't want to miss it. I have never been to Dubai and hence it is an added advantage for me. For the past three years I have been so caught up with work that I did not get time to be myself. Either it is Riddhima or Piya always. And since I am open to all the adventures of life, I thought I should take it up.

How are you getting yourself prepared to represent the country?
It is really tough for me as I have to adjust the preparations with the shoot and it is really hectic for me. There is a talent round for which I am rehearsing a dance and also I am preparing for a Q and A round.

What do you think your strength is on the basis of this pageant?
I feel that I am confident in whatever I am doing and that is really an important aspect while taking part in such a competition. I also believe that I am a confident orator and have a sense of styling because of which I am confident about the clothes I wear. I know it is going to be a tough competition for me but at the same time I am glad that I am not taking it lightly and I am really working hard for it.

This is the first time you are taking part in a pageant that too on an international level; how do you feel?
Actually I do not have much time to think or even feel about it (laughs), but at the same time I am enjoying and excited about this because I have never been to a pageant. For a long time I have just been the characters and today I am getting a chance to be the real Sukirti Kandpal. I want to do certain things in life before time runs out from my hands.

What according to you should be present for a Beauty Pageant contestant?
The basic aspect that a contestant needs is the confidence and being genuine.

What are the different rounds that you will undergo in the competition?
There is a round wherein I have to wear the Indian ethnic wear and I will be wearing a Saree designed by Shyamli Arora. For the talent round I will be wearing a Ghaghra and Choli and for the final rounds I will be wearing gowns designed by Archana Kochhar. As of now these are the only rounds that I am aware of and I do not know about the other rounds.

What was your first reaction when you heard that you have been selected to represent the Country for a beauty pageant?
I was really happy and was little skeptical too. But then, I am not thinking much about whether I will win or lose as I am just concentrating on the work that I am supposed to do.

Who is your role model when it comes to beauty pageant?
I feel both Sushmita Sen and Lara Dutta are great because they both are international figures and I like the way they carry themselves as strong women.

As a small rehearsal, Telly Buzz has some Beauty Pageant questions for Sukirti and here we go.

Your style icon and why?
Frankly speaking, I do not have a style icon because I do not believe in copying others. Instead, I believe in creating my own style.

What quality do you like the most about yourself and why?
I can work really hard for things that I really like.

What does fashion mean to you?
Fashion is something that defines you as a person and we should not take fashion in the real fashion way and should wear what you are comfortable in.

What is your definition of success?
Success is not just about how you portray out because success has to be mental success also. There are people who are really successful but still not happy mentally.

What bothers you most about what is happening in your country today?
The condition of women in our country still bothers me because they are still looked down upon. The day when the behavior towards women change in the country, we will have a better nation than this.

What If...

Sunday, April 03, 2011 | 6:16:46 PM IST (+05:30 GMT) What If...

Sukirti Kandpal talks about a profession that she would have been in if not actor...

'The grass is always greener on the other side' - is rightly said as there are always instances where we must have thought 'What if'.

Here we have another segment of What If... where Sukirti Kandpal says what she must have been if not an actor.

What If...

"The leading rule for the lawyer, as for the man of every other calling, is diligence. Leave nothing for to-morrow which can be done to-day"-Abraham Lincoln

Being a lawyer is one of the most responsible jobs that any person could be in. Sukirti Kandpal says she would have been a lawyer if not an actor...

If not an actor I would have been undoubtedly a lawyer by profession. In fact I had got admission to one of the top law universities before I came to the industry, but my heart truly lied somewhere else.

My father is a Public Prosecutor and is at a high rank at the High Court of Uttaranchal and is also the President of the Bar Council of India. He was more upset than my mother when I chose a career out of the legal body.

Like my father, I would have been a Public Prosecutor or a Corporate Lawyer, practicing under him if not an actor. Also I would have done social service like him because I have seen him helping needy people on legal as well as financial matters. He has a great authority and it is always an inspiration to see him, even though I have not been to his proceedings.

I believe that being a Lawyer is one of the most respectable professions in India and girls as lawyers receive more respect and dignity in the society. I personally do not like the way girls are sometimes graded lower than the men. This profession definitely puts the person a level ahead in society.

I did my economics honours in my college for this, but then I was destined to do what my heart told me...

Rendevouz with Vivian Dsena and Sukirti Kandpal..

Sunday, March 20, 2011 | 8:40:41 PM IST (+05:30 GMT) Rendevouz with Vivian Dsena and Sukirti Kandpal..

TellyBuzz gets our dear readers what they have wished for!! An interview with Abhay and Piya...

Vivian Dsena and Sukirti Kandpal have a sizzling chemistry going in Star One and Balaji Telefilms' Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani..

TellyBuzz got this much-in-demand on screen pair together for an exclusive interview wherein they express their happiness of being part of such a unique and well exhibited show..

Vivian and Sukirti for you!!!

How has the experience been in Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani till now?
Sukirti: It has been very good shooting with all of them and I really like the way all the characters and the story is developing.
Vivian: The experience has been superb and fantastic and this is the best that could have happened to me.

How has it been working with Ekta Kapoor?
Sukirti: This is my first show with Balaji and it has always been a new production house everytime I do a show and I am enjoying the different work atmosphere and am learning a lot as well. Ekta maam is really good at her work and the way she has conceived and developed the story is great. The credit for the execution goes to our director as he is doing a fabulous job.
Vivian: This is my second show with Balaji and I am happy that my career in the television industry started with them. I had always wanted to work with the team and I feel really good working with the best production house in the industry.

What was your first reaction when you came to know that you were going to do a vampire story?
Vivian: I was totally amazed and wondered how come Ekta maam chose me to do the role. I knew about the developments of the show and was also aware that there were so many people who had wanted to be a part of it. But destiny chose me.
Sukirti: I had a normal reaction but at the same time I wanted to be a part of the show and was excited when I got to know that I am part of it.

Your set is composed of a crew which is really young and energetic; how is it working with all of them? And for Sukirti, there was a similar ambiance in Dill Mill Gaye as well; can you compare both?
Sukirti: I don't compare both because, here age- wise, we are much younger. But both the sets are great and fun to be in and here we have great fun with all the co-actors and we all get along very well. I enjoy a lot here.
Vivian: We have a very lively ambiance on the sets unlike the sets of other daily soaps wherein people sit idle, tired and exhausted. Here, when the others are in the shot we have fun and masti outside the sets.

Have you ever felt bored seeing the same faces every day?
Sukirti: Not really because it depends on whom I am shooting with. But when it gets monotonous with a person then I guess its human tendency to get bored (laughs). At the same time, when we all girls are present, it's great fun.
Vivian: For me every single day is a new day; I take it to be the first day of my shoot and hence I do not get bored at all.

Abhay always wears black, do you ever feel like wearing something different? Sukirti, have you ever get bored of Abhay's costumes?
Sukirti: No, because I love black and I feel it's ok wearing black.
Vivian: (Laughs) Initially I used to get irritated and used to wonder why this guy always wears black. But then later on I realized and understood that the character demands that. Now I like the costumes and do get good comments as well.

You recently attended the World Cup match in Delhi, how was the experience?
Sukirti: I enjoyed it and I am happy that I got to see Tendulkar because I am really fond of him. There were a lot of people who recognized us and many of them were shouting Maithili, instead of Piya and many of them recognized me from the days of Dill Mill Gaye. It was great fun and I enjoyed a lot.
Vivian: It was great fun and even I was happy to see Tendulkar right in front of us fielding and also I was really excited that we won too.

How is your off screen rapport with each other?
Sukirti: We have a good rapport with each other and we get along well on the sets.
Vivian: We are good professionals and we share a good off screen rapport.

Does it feel odd as an actor when your co star Vivian Dsena has proclaimed that he is in love with co-actor Vahbbiz?
Sukirti: No, not at all and why should I feel odd. It is his personal matter and I will never ever feel odd as a co-star. In fact I am really happy for both of them.

Does this in any case affect your on screen chemistry?
Sukirti: Not at all, because I take it in a professional way and that's my job. I can snap into and out of my character as and when the shoot gets done.
Vivian: Why would we feel odd?. This is our profession and we both are matured professionals and there is no connection between both personal and professional relations.. Vahbbiz's and my relationship starts only after the pack-up and on the sets we are complete professionals.

A vampire trait you wish you had?
Sukirti: The power to read people's mind.
Vivian: The healing power and the power to save people's life.

Which is your favourite vampire story?
Sukirti: Twilight
Vivian: Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani.

Now that Siddharth Mehra has entered, do you think he will be a competition for Abhay?
Sukirti: Now that Siddharth knows about Piya and Abhay, I think there is going to be a competition onscreen.
Vivian: I have no clue about it. But Siddhant and Vivian has a good off screen rapport, but on screen Siddhart is trying to get Piya for himself.

How similar or different are you from your character?
Sukirti: I am not so foolish like Piya (laughs) but at the same time Piya and I are both strong. Piya, even though has been brought up in an orphanage, has been the strong and daring girl, and not the damsel in distress. And another similarity is that, both are surrounded by boys who are always there to help her out while in trouble (laughs).
Vivian: Abhay and Vivian are two different individuals where Abhay thinks a lot after death and Vivian has started thinking before death (smiles).

The best scene according to you that you have shot with each other?
Vivian: All the scenes were good so far.
Sukirti: There are a lot of scenes that are good and I like the scene where Abhay reveals about his traits and that he is a vampire.

What can the fans expect when it comes to the unique love story of Abhay and Pia now?
Sukirti: I have no clue about that.
Vivian: That depends on the creative.

Your message to India-forums fans?
Sukirti: 'India-Forums' is a very big platform which has helped me a lot and I have been associated with it right from my initial phase in the industry. I am really thankful for all the appreciation that you guys have given me. Actually I got more than what I deserve.
Vivian: I love all my fans and I am what I am today because of them. I pray for their good health and life.

Holi Hai... Starry Way!!!!

Sunday, March 20, 2011 | 3:38:11 PM IST (+05:30 GMT) Holi Hai... Starry Way!!!!

Popular telly stars speak on their Holi memories..

The playful mood after having the intoxicating Bhaang and the naughty spray of colours!!!

Holi is an all time favourite festival for all and yes, it is Holi today. It is a festival when the most notorious 'you' pops out and does the utmost masti possible. In this festival you are least bothered whether you are a friend or a stranger; all that matters is how you enjoy the festival of colors with people around you...

Here is Tellybuzz getting the best out of your favorite actors on this Colorful day...

Have a masti

Sukirti Kandpal:

An unforgettable Holi: The Holi that I celebrated with friends last year was one of the most memorable ones because they had put keechad on me and it took hours for me to clean it up.

An instance where you gave an unexpected shot of water gun on someone: As a kid, my sister, brother and I were really notorious and we used to stay in a two storeyed house. We had around twelve boys as our neighbours and on the day of Holi, we threw a bucket of water on them from the top floor. At that time they couldn't do anything on us as our dad was there. Once our dad went inside, they just shot towards us and coloured us with Silver colour. After that we were actually looking like three silver monkeys. The colour was so solid that we kept on scrubbing till evening to remove it.

The most notorious Holi that you have played: The above mentioned one I guess!!!

A Hollywood actor that you would like to play Holi with: Either Jude Law or Robert Pattinsonful read...

Onscreen pairs have a blast on Valentine's Day - Part 1

Monday, February 14, 2011 | 12:49:21 PM IST (+05:30 GMT) Onscreen pairs have a blast on Valentine's Day - Part 1

Tellybuzz' Valentine's Day gift for the readers with Popular couples of television...

'Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind; And therefore is winged Cupid painted blind'- William Shakespeare.

The legendary writer created the most endless saga of love story 'Romeo and Juliet'. The story that depicts the power and passion of love, which makes people sacrifice their life for their true love. And where Romeo and Juliet brought tears into our eyes, A Midsummer Night's dream brought smile on our faces.

There are a lot of beautiful love stories that we have read about in the past that are still been talked about. Why forget the great Taj Mahal, an Indian wonder that is now one of the Seven Wonders of the World, a symbol of true love of Shah Jahaan and Mumtaz.

As years passed on, our Indian television also created various love stories and beautiful couple who remain fresh in our memories even today. Well then, Tellybuzz thought why not have a chat with the most happening couples in the industry on the occasion of Valentine's Day, and ask them what they would do for each other on this very special day.

But as we developed this idea, we realized there are too many popular couples who are close to the viewers.

Vivian Dsena and Sukirti Kandpal
:

I think it's been enough of having normal dates with couples. Let's see how the vampire Abhay in Star One and Balaji Telefilms' Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani would date...

Sukirti Kandpal shares "I would love to have a vampire boy friend who is strong with all the superpowers to fight off the irritating boys. And if I am arranging a Valentine's Day for Abhay, I will take him to the woods and give him a black rose as he loves black and will gift him something because he doesn't eat".

The vampire himself says "I don't mind having a vampire girlfriend because I would love to know how they are, and explore and understand the difference they have from us. But for Piya I will have to arrange a candle light dinner on a Valentine's Day and take her for a walk in the woods".

Sukirti and Vivian also share about who they visualize as the most loving couple. Sukirti says "My mom and dad are the ideal pair for me because they had dated for ten years and had to surpass all the family hurdles because my mom is a Rajput and dad, a Brahmin."

"I idealize Shah Jahan and Mumtaz as the perfect romantic couple as he created the most wonderful romantic symbol for his love", says Vivian.

'Bad guys make love more exciting' - Sukirti Khandpal

Friday, October 15, 2010 | 7:08:05 PM IST (+05:30 GMT) 'Bad guys make love more exciting' - Sukirti Khandpal

Sukirti Khandpal is back with Star One's Pyaar Kii Yeh Ek Kahaani, and here is she talking about her new show...

Sukirti Khandpal who enthralled all as Riddhima in Dill Mill Gayye, and went on to play the very interesting role of Siddheshwari in Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo is upbeat about her new role of Pia in Balaji Telefilms' upcoming show on Star One, Pyaar Kii Yeh Ek Kahaani.

Here is Sukirti in a lively talk where she talks about the opportunity of being part of the Czarina Ekta Kapoor's show, on her role and much more..

How is it working with Ekta Kapoor?
As a Producer Ekta is involved in whatever she does. She is very clear about her characters, and would also enact and explain the characters as she wants her actors to get to the skin of the character. You cannot term her as strict, it is just that she wants everyone to give their best.

We have heard that you are extremely fond of your curly hair?
Yes, I love my curly hair as I am born with it. There is this mindset in the industry that a girl with straight hair is always positive, while a girl with curly hair has to be negative. I hate this concept, when people say that I will look good in a negative role. If given a chance, I would love to do all the roles I get with my curly hair.

Tell us about your journey from Jersey No. 10 to Yeh Pyaar?
From the time when a Cinevistaas official spotted me at a caf in South Mumbai, and I got my first break things have fallen in place for me. I have always wanted to be an actor and it was a stroke of luck that has got me here. The journey has been very pleasant. After Jersey, Dill Mill Gayye happened and then Agle Janam. It's been a three year long journey and every role has been good.

Have you watched Twilight? Who is your personal favorite from there?
I am in love with the Twilight series, and I have to go with Robert Pattison. However, PKYEK is completely different from Twilight.

Who would you choose - Vivian Dsena or Robert Pattison?
Romantically speaking, Robert Pattison and his chemistry is brilliant. But we are not showing Twilight here.

Which do you love the most, enacting positive or negative roles?
See my role in Agle Janam was not out and out negative. The girl was dumb and did wrong acts in that frame of mind. Of course I like what I am doing now. Initially, when I was offered Agle Janam, they had clearly told me that the role is positive. That is one reason why I took it. However, I am not aware how and when the creatives got injected with this idea of turning the character negative. I want to play my age, and I think at the age of 22 I cannot convincingly play a negative role.

Why are the makers denying the news of PKYEK being a remake of Twilight?
Twilight is the rage nowadays. We have to show that our show is inspired from something. Thought we cannot give complete credit to Twilight, we can say that we are making something similar to it. But in totality, the whole show is different.

Are you aware that Dill Mill Gayye is ending?
Yes, I have heard the news. I am even today remembered as Dr. Riddhima after I replaced Shilpa Anand. DMG has been a very popular show and all will miss it.

All the shows that you have left are concluding, including Agle Janam. Do you think you were the lucky mascot for them?
God has been really kind to me. Whenever I am unhappy with my character something has happened and I would leave the show. I left DMG when it was at its peak and then when I did Agle Janam, they turned my character to negative which apparently I didn't like. I tried to convince them but things did not work. So I left the show, and after as I left the show the TRP of the show started to decline.

Pia in this show falls in love with a bad man, do you think girls normally fall for this trap?
Women love to fall in love with bad men, as such guys make love exciting. Normal guys are boring.

How difficult is it for a small-town girl like you to make a mark in the industry?
My character of Pia is very much similar to mine in real life. Since childhood I wanted to act, but in a place like Nainital which is my home town, people used to laugh when I talked about acting. I have never been to my home town since I have come down to Mumbai, but would want to go soon. My parents are proud of me and my achievements at such a young age.

Female tele stars discuss the day to day gesture misunderstandings with tellybuzz...

Sukirti Kandpal who says that she has already given up on men completely and all the following gestures are out of her personal experience with guys in a past few days time...

-When we talk to some other guy the onlooking boy always feels that we are in a relationship because for them just pure friendship can never exists between a guy and a girl.

-whenever girls plan some surprise for them and hide anything from them for the same they always feel that we girls want to breakup. They are such Idiots they always ruin surprises. (laughs)

Knock out that nervousness!

Saturday, July 31, 2010 | 6:24:34 PM IST (+05:30 GMT) Knock out that nervousness!

Get over those downing jitters with a heap of help from our TV celebs…

There's always been some time in our lives when we get nervous…sometimes it's so extreme we don't find words to talk. We go mute. Be it your job interview, a thanksgiving speech or the big step- wedding! Nervousness seems to bind us down at some point or another.

Just when we seem to think our TV stars at least don't need to bother about this, they reveal humbly that they too get panic attacks. They share their ways to handle it…

Sukirti Kandpal
I very rarely get nervous because I'm a very talkative person and talking sort of keeps all the nervousness at bay. If I do feel nervous, as an actress I tend to camouflage it and not show that I'm nervous (laughs).

Smile, Life's fine!

Wednesday, July 21, 2010 | 6:19:03 PM IST (+05:30 GMT) Smile, Life's fine!

Tellybuzz catches up with actors to know their positivity mantra and how it helps maintain sanity in their hectic life!

Many a times we let the worst of our lives get to us, suck out any reason for happiness and let the c- shaped smile on our faces droop to its gloomy and evil twin with a reverse shape. But our television celebrities say there's a way around this.

Here's how they pull out their sun out of the clouds…
Sukirti Kandpal

I keep the positivity alive in my life by always thinking positive. Although there are negative thoughts in the atmosphere, I don't let them barge into my mind. I always keep remembering that God has given me a good life...I wanted to be an actor and God helped me become one. I have so much independence to do what I want at such a young age. Also, when I help people it makes me happy, so I make sure I keep doing that.
