Actually, Abhay in the past and now, i feel, are pretty much the same. The only difference is that in the past, he didn't hide his feelings and was upfront about things, unlike now, where he is trying to hide his true self behind the mask of a rude, arrogant man.

I agree that he's a heart-broken soul and that's why he doesn't want to come close to anyone esp.Piya because he is afraid of Piya. He knows from day#1 that he has been attracted to Piya. Its somewhat like TVD whereby Stefan actually found that Elena and Katherine were 2 different people before he came infront of Elena. Recall the cat outside Piya's orphanage when she was leaving for Dehradun. I guess that cat was either Abhay or his messenger. So he does know Piya from very long. At the moment, i think that the most important reason why he is staying away from Piya is because of Chand-Haseena; he knows they will never approve of her and will try to hurt her instead.

Lets see what's in store. I would love to see Abhay being nice to Piya and accepting his love for her, but i am also afraid that his parents would try to cause some trouble for her.
