Chapter 9 - Epilogue

Yash was deep into his task at hand when he heard a commotion outside his office. He called to his PA but there was no response, so he got up. He had to smile at what he saw when he opened the door to his office.

It looked like the whole of the female contingent of the office was at his PA's desk cooing over his precious princess. He leaned against his doorway looking at his beautiful wife. She noticed that he had come out of his office and smiled broadly at him, shrugging her shoulders.

She made her way to him with a picnic basket in hand and kissed him.

"You and your daughter are disrupting my business, Mrs. Scindiya."

"It's not my fault that you make such cute babies that everyone wants to gush over. All I wanted was to share lunch with the love of my life."

He smiled at her.

"You know all the right words to say, sweetheart."

He moved to the current person who was holding Payal.

"Where's my sweetie pie?"

Payal's head whipped in his direction and she smiled broadly, legs and arms flailing at excitement at hearing her daddy's voice. A resounding "Awww" permeated the office.

He took her in his arms and went to his office and Aarti followed.

"You realise that you already high sexiness factor just went up about 100 notches."

"What are you talking about?"

"What is hotter than a sexy man who is a good dad? Awww" she mocked.

"Well, I am quite hot he said giving her his sexy raised eyebrow look."

She giggled.

"Yes you are incredibly hot and you are all mine." She blew him a kiss. "Let me dish your food."

He started talking to his daughter while she dished the food. Once they had done eating, they sat on the couch in his office. She sat snuggly in his arms while Payal was sleeping in the car seat in front of them. She sighed.

"What's wrong sweetheart?"

"I am really not in the mood for this dinner with the Dubey's."

"The Dubey's? They are your family love. You should stop referring to them as the Dubey's."

"Some of them don't know the meaning of the word. I shouldn't have invited them. I should have asked Ma first. I can see her stressing about seeing her ex-in laws."

"Yes, I noticed. But we will all be there for her. Honey, think of Akash and Vidhi. They have really grown attached to our family already. And I know you have the biggest heart in the world. If you could forgive me, then you can forgive them."

"It's not the same Yash." she started to move out of his arms but he held on.

"How is it different? I hurt you so much for years. And you gave me so many chances. And because of your love you have made me a changed man."

"You will never abandon your child." she looked away from him.

"Aarti, sweetheart, I think you and Pari need to at least try and make peace with your father and grandparents. You need this like I needed to make peace with you all and the truth about my mother. At least then you can say you tried. The better you get along with them, the less awkward it will be for Akash and Vidhi to spend time with us."

"Fine, I will try. If it goes horribly wrong, I am going to blame you."

"I can deal with it." he said gathering her tighter in his arms. "I will accept any punishment you want to exact on me."

"Punishment? I must think of a suitable punishment then. How about one week of abstinence."

He burst out laughing.

She pushed him away.

"What is so funny?"

He stopped laughing.

"No nothing. Abstinence it is."

She smiled at him, both knowing that the threat held no water.

***************

The day of the Dubey visit arrived and Yash and Aarti were cooking and Pari and Prateek were cleaning and cutting vegetables and making more of a mess than helping as they usually did. Cooking together had become the new Scindiya tradition. Normally their parents would be there too but Radha was nervous about her ex-in laws coming to visit and the children had asked her to leave. She was getting ready and they took Payal with them.

"Pari and Prateek, stop it this instant or get out of the kitchen" Aarit chided as they were throwing each other with flour.

"Yes, Didi." Pari said.

Then Prateek threw her with flour and again and ran. Pari grabbed a hand full of flour and ran after him shouting threats. Their siblings just laughed.

Yash grabbed and kissed her.

"I thought they would never leave."

"We have to get done, Mr. Scindiya."

"We will be done. We are making good time." he said kissing her in her neck.

"No we are making out" she giggled.

"Yes we are. Don't you find the chef hot?" he asked as he devoured her mouth again, his one hand on her bottom and the other creeping under her blouse.

"Bhabhi-di, Bhayia" they heard nervously.

They jumped apart.

There stood Pari and Prateek covered in flour and behind them stood the Dubey's.

Aarti and Yash stood rooted to their spots and it was clear that Pari and Prateek were as embarrassed they were.

"Our guest are early. bhayia." said Prateek.

"I see that" said Yash.

"Don't you know how to greet your elders properly." said the grandmother.

Yash and Aarti went to greet her parents and grand-parents and took their blessings."

"Where is Rhadha. And what is this. Why is your husband cooking while your sister is running around the house throwing her husband with flour? She should be helping you cook. Not your husband."

"Dadiji, I am the one helping my husband cook and not the other way around. Pari doesn't cook. And Ma is getting ready. We expected you in an hour that is why we are not ready yet."

"Well I never. What is going on here?"

"Ma, please. We are early. Let the children get ready. We will sit in the lounge" he stepmother said.

"I will arrange some snacks and tea for you."

She asked Naina to make the tea and snacks.

"Baby, you get ready I will finish dinner."

"Ok."

"Aarti, I love you." he said knowing that she needed to hear that right now.

She smiled at him and left the kitchen.

Pari came into her room as she was finishing up.

"Didi, why did we invite them? Even in our own home they make me feel so ... so ... inadequate."

She walked up to Pari.

"Sweet Pea, this is our home. Our family. Don't allow them to make you feel this way. Promise me. I need you to be strong. We are all here for you and we all need you to be here for us. Especially for Ma. So give me a happy smile, my poppet."

Pari smiled and they hugged.

"Now let's go show them what the Scindiya's are made of."

Their parents were sitting with the guests.

Their father and Prateek were talking to them, their mother was sitting quietly with Payal in her arms. It hurt the girls to see their mother like that. Once again being treated like nothing by these people.

Yash came out of the kitchen.

"Everything is done now. Honey, can you and Pari set the table while I take a quick shower."

She nodded.

"I will help" Said Radha. Desperately wanting to get away. "Ji, will you keep my princess?"

She saw the frown she was getting from her ex-in laws at daring to ask a man to look after the baby.

"Give my princess to her dada." he said and as usual Payal gave her grandpa a broad smile.

Yash showered and changed in record time and then dinner was served. Aarti and Pari served dinner.

"Honey, all the food has been served. You and Pari sit and eat now." Said Yash.

"Yes, didi you sit. I will take my precious from Bauji while you eat." said Pari

Aarti smiled and sat as Pari took the baby from her reluctant grandad.

Aarti saw the look of utter disapproval from her grandmother.

They ate and the conversation was stilted. Their grandmother did not have a good word to say about anything. Like his son, her grandfather had little to say but his whole demeanour screamed disapproval. Aarti was getting agitated and so was her mother and Pari. Yash kept touching her hand just as a reminder that he was there.

Their father was telling them about the gift that they received from Yash to go on a honeymoon. That's when their grandmother lost it.

"Honeymoon? You?" this was directed at Rhadha. "Have you no shame. You want to behave like a teenager. Getting married again. This man's wife was barely in the grave and you married him for his money. And now you want to go on honeymoon with him. Why don't you stay home and teach your daughters how to behave properly. There is absolutely no order in this house. The men do the work and the women play around."

"Ma please" said her stepmother.

"No, this is really disgusting."

Despite Yash holding her hand Aarti jumped up.

"Disgusting is it? What gives you the right to judge? You had the opportunity to be part of our upbringing and make us the daughters that you wanted but you didn't want us. Just because we were the wrong gender. Your son left my mother with 2 babies and no financial or any other support. Despite all of that, we ended up successful and we are married to husbands that love and respect us. How dare you come into our house and speak to my mother like that."

"Aarti" he mother said trying to calm her now down.

"No Ma. I have had enough. What does she know about being a mother? She raised a wimp of son that abandoned his wife and children. Well let me tell you what, leaving us was the best thing that ever happened to us. Now we have a real father, I real family. Not your idea of family but we are a happy family."

"And like your mother, you also give birth to a girl."

"Excuse me!? How ignorant. The gender of a baby is determined by the sperm of the father. The mother has very little to do with it. And your son had 3 girls."

"Stop being so disrespectful. He is your father."

Aarti gave a mirthless laugh.

"Father? Biological only. Still he sits there and has nothing to say. Not even sorry. And he got married again. Immediately. My mother got married 15 years after the divorce. Why was it allowed for him and not my mother?"

"It's not done. Women ..."

"Ma, please. Stop now. I don't mean to be disrespectful, but you cannot come to my home and insult my family. Least of all you cannot insult my husband. And by making disparaging remarks about this home, you are insulting him. And I love my daughters. They are the best things that came from your family. For that I have to thank you, but I am not prepared to put up with you saying such terrible things about my daughters. If you don't want to be here then leave, but this is how our household runs. We love each other. We accept each other and we are happy. If you don't like it, feel free to leave."

"I have never been so insulted in my life."

"Ma, Rhadaji is right. The girl is right. We are not a part of their lives. They didn't ask us for anything. So we can't judge them and we can be happy that they were and still are well taken care of." Finally her father spoke.

"I think it is time for us to go. Aakash and Vidhi can stay if they prefer." he said.

They two looked uncertain.

All of a sudden something that Aarti least expected happened.

"Aarti, apologise to you grandmother and father." said SJ.

"But bauji ..."

"Aarti, the way you spoke to them and about them was disrespectful. I am not used to such behaviour from you and I will not condone it. Now do as I say."

"Yes, bauji."

Aarti was close to tears as she put her hands together and did as her father said. She could not disobey or disrespect him.

"I'm sorry. I should not have said all those things"

She looked at Bauji. He was looked satisfied. And then he address the guests.

"Now I have tolerated this behaviour from you for my wife and daughters. But please know, that it will never happen again. My children and granddaughter are my pride and joy and my wife is more important to me than anything in the world. I will protect them with my very life. From anyone and anything. I would like you to be a part of this family as well, but not before you can accept all of us as we are." His voice was calm but the underlying tone was unmistakable.

"I think you should go now and decide whether you want to part of your daughters lives or not. Make sure of what you want, but this will never happen again. I think you should leave now."

"Vidhi, Akash, I think you should rather come over next weekend, then you can spend the whole weekend with us." said Yash.

"Yes, bhayia" They said and the Dubey's left.

"Aarti, I hope you understand why I did that."

"Yes Bauji. And you were right. I'm sorry."

"I don't want there to ever be a blemish on this family. They must never have a reason to point a finger at this family. And hopefully one day we might be a combined family in the true sense of the word. Especially for the grandchildren's sake. But you have to face the reality of your grandparents never coming around. And I can understand this. It is merely a result of their upbringing. That mind-set might never change. But at least you have a good stepmother and your brother and sister. They are already looking up to their big sisters and brothers in law. So we don't want to give any reason for them to be kept away from here. Do you understand, girls?"

"Yes bauji" they said together.

"Good."

"Bauji, I also have something to add." Said Prateek.

"Yes son."

"Now there is even more dessert for us."

The whole family burst out laughing.

"Yes, you are right my naughty boy." their mother said. "Let me go and get it."

"Mom, can we go have a picnic in the garden with the dessert? Didi and I will prepare it."

"Of course my darling. Your two go and prepare our picnic spot and I will get the dessert."

"And I will look after my princess." their father said taking a smiling Payal in his arms.

"And what will be doing big brother."

"We are the men of the house, didn't you hear, your grandmother in law said so. So we will just watch them work and then eat." said Yash.

"Of course."

They walked out to the garden together. Their father just shook his head and laughed at his sons' shenanigans.

3 Years later

Aarti was looking lovingly at her baby sister. She was marrying a Scindiya too. She caught the eye of the son of Suraj Pratap's younger brother, Pankaj. And their engagement was being held at SM. Her sisters had arranged everything. Rhadha and Shoba were standing next to each other looking at their youngest daughter lovingly. Aarti was happy. Although she would never have the relationship she had with Bauji with her biological father, they were a real family.

She felt a pair of arms encircle her from behind. She was immediately irritated.

"Yash Scindiya, take your hands off me."

"But love ..."

"I said let me go."

"Don't you love me anymore?"

"No, not at all and I don't want you to touch me."

"But last night ..."

She swung her head and glared at him angrily.

"No, I just thought ..."

"I know exactly what you thought."

"You can't be angry at me forever."

"Want to bet?"

"I love you." he whispered in her ear.

She looked away.

He knew she was angry. But he also knew that it would be over soon. He looked around the room at his family. Payal was now 3 and half and running around with Vikram, Pari and Prateeks 2 year old son. His father was holding their 6 months old baby boy in his arms. A month ago she was also angry with him. She found out that she was 2 months pregnant.

Flashback 2 Months ago

"This is all your fault!" she shouted.

"But love..."

"Don't but love me, Yash. Ansh is just 4 months old and now this. I will never forgive you."

"I'm sorry" he said uncertainly. Not sure how to handle the situation.

"You are a liar. You are not sorry."

He didn't know what to say. He wasn't sorry.

"I don't know what you want me to say, baby?"

"Nothing! I will not speak to you ever again. Go now. Get out of my room."

"But where will I sleep?"

"I don't care."

"But you can't fall asleep if you don't lie in my arms."

She looked at him angrily.

"Fine. You can sleep in the bed. But I am not talking to you and not to mention ... Well, you know what?"

"What my love?" he tested her.

"Ugh" she grunted and threw him with Ansh's rattle that she had in her hand.

"Fine, fine. I will behave myself."

Present

He had to admit with this pregnancy she had a lot more mood swings. She had come to terms with her pregnancy but the previous day they had gone for a scan and discovered that she was carrying twins. And after the appointment she was livid. And he had to bear the brunt of her anger. She had gone to bed and this time she even lay on her side of the bed. But as she got tired and needed to sleep, she moved in to snuggle into his arms again. And soon it was more than just snuggling. And now he was in the dog box again.

"You can't be angry. It's your sister's engagement."

"Smile baby."

She looked at him.

"Please. Smile" he made a funny face for her and she looked away. He knew she was struggling to contain her laughter.

"I know you are smiling."

She looked at him and he made the face again. And she burst out laughing.

"That's my beautiful bride. I love you."

"I love you too."

"And I love all my children."

"Me too. But no more after this"

"No more. And we will get you a night nanny and a day nanny and you can still continue working if you want."

"I like to work" she pouted.

"I know and I won't stop you."

"But I don't want my children being raised by a nanny."

"We won't let that happen, but you will have 4 children under 5 and you will need help. We are all here to help as well. And your family owns the company, so you can choose your working hours. And if you want to work from home that will also be fine. We will figure everything out as we go along. But we will work it out. So just relax."

"And will you still love me when I am fat and ugly."

"You are most beautiful when you are pregnant, and I will never stop loving you."

They hugged.

"Still angry?"

"No."

"Love me?"

"So much."

"Are you happy?"

She looked around the room again and smiled.

"Yes. Very happy. We have a wonderful family don't we Sweetheart."

"The best."

"And are you happy?"

"Yes. I can't believe that I almost lost it all by my stupid actions. I can't believe that I could reject your love for so long. And I almost lost my child as well. But you my darling wife, still remained faithful in your love and you forgave me for everything. Ever since I've accepted my love for you and your love for me, it changed my whole life, this whole family. And even with all your mood swings, and falling pregnant every two minutes, you are my whole world. You are the best of me. I love you more than my life."

He kissed her.

"Yash, please, we are in pubic." she giggled.

"So let's find a secluded spot."

"No, you shameless man. It is my sister's engagement. You will behave yourself."

"Only if you promise me that I will be well rewarded when we get home."

She giggled again as he nuzzled her neck.

"Yes, yes, now let me go"

He gave her a last peck on the cheek and winked at her and walked to his father and took Ansh from him. His eyes never left her for too long as usual. He had found true happiness. All because she won him over with her love and forgiveness. He had thought his life ended when his mother died. Although no one could replace his mother, Aarti had forced him out of his grief by her love. Causing him to live and love again. He fought against her at first but because of her he found the love of a mother for the second time in his life, had his family restored, in fact for the first time they were a happy family. She had given him their 2 little blessings and would be giving him two more in a couple of months. No matter his denial, taunts and accusations, she loved him enough to heal his broken heart and make him a new man. When he thought she hated him and he had no chance of being a husband to her or a father to Payal, when he wanted to show her he loved her, still she was the first one to confess her love again. No he was a man that had an amazing capacity to love. And he loved her the most. At first he loathed to love her, now he loved to love her so much. And he would love to love her the rest of their lives.

awww it ended? really ended? I will miss my nightly treats for this story! it always made me sleep with a broad grin if it was not making me want to throw something 😆

I wanted to literally wring that neck of that old bat! imagine acting as if she had any moral ground to stand on? abandoning small girls and a helpless mother and then pushing her snobbish nose up in the air as if she could smell better morals by doing so! 😡 Aarti brought her back down to earth and made her smell reality! I was cheering her on as I read that scene but yes I know it's wrong to disrespect elders for any reason. Bau ji was right to make her apologize. Radha finally gave them her two cents and Bau ji let them know where to get off! he very "politely" told them to leave 😆

I really just love these particular Scindhias! they live, they love, they laugh! they have gone through too much and have caused each other so much pain but they overcame all that. they learned to accept each other and love each other through everything and anything. especially Yash, he was the one with the biggest conflict but he was able overcome it. and yes it was Aarti's unconditional that helped him become the best version of himself. true love heals and this story is the epitome of that!

oh my word! getting pregnant every two minutes indeed! 🤣 I said nuh Yash is not shooting any blanks! poor Aarti, I can imagine her state but she too is equally responsible for it! did they not hear of birth control? 🤣

wonderful epilogue! enjoyed the humor Honey-Bee! 😆

👏 👏 👏 take a bow! you deserve it!
