why? one wonders.
If I start asking questions about why they hold such an opinion, they would reply that they lack the passion that most jodis have.
why it works ,in my opinion:
1. The Premise of the show demands that the characters be mature(within the age bracket of 28 to 35),comprising of a widower and a divorcee.
If the girl is naive, timid, bubbly, innocent, overly enthusiastic, fickle, childish, immature, fragile etc it would not be logical keeping the character in mind.
She is a divorcee,a woman robbed off her dreams, trust and faith. She grew up as an orphan. That itself makes them independent, worldly wise and street smart.
Aarti can stand up for herself,we have seen it.When she firmly tells buaji and gayatriji off for even suggesting a divorce,we see that if the situation demands she will fight.
when she runs behind the pick-pocket and admonishes him we see that she can get dirty and does not consider it beneath herself.
Yash on the other hand being all obsessive,idealistic,tunnel-visioned,rigid and proper is a result of a conservative, disciplined and privileged upbringing.
He is idealistic because his parents and family have always portrayed a perfect scenario for him to grow up in.Arpita, for him, was perfect. He had idolised her.Aarti ,on the other hand, is flawed and that itself makes her human.
2. The Passion!
Imagine a couple, parents of four, falling into each others arms and spending eternity staring into each others eyes. What about the children?!
Hot,steamy passion, pulling, pushing, throwing around is not love. That is pure and unadulterated lust. There's a difference.
They are not young people. When you become parents you start seeing love as an entirely different thing.such moments are only momentary retreats to keep the fire burning.
It would not befit them to fool around like horny teenagers.
3.Both the protagonists are flawed and never are justified.
Aarti never started off as a different character and suddenly woke up one day deciding that she is bored and shall make a complete U-turn.
She gradually grew into the woman she is now and will continue to do so.
Yash was still living in his past and keeping in with his character,he stood by what he thought.Him never apologizing for his misdemeanor, for me,is reminiscent of his stubborn and self-righteous character.I don't think he ever had to apologize to anyone, ever.
The two of them are growing together and have not simply become stagnant.
4.Chemistry builds over time for some.
They are two strangers who married without ever uttering a meaningful word to each other and continued to be shrouded by their prejudices and doubts.
If they would have gotten comfortable easily then how would we able to justify Yash's loyal nature?
5.Auntiji Auntyji!
If Aarti looks like a glamorous young thing I would start worrying about her children. She is a mother, they tend to let go of themselves sometimes.
6.The two actors bring the nuances of their respective characters to life.Simple as that.
I could go on,but I think that after this mini essay many of you would have got the gist of my rant.
Thank you for bearing my ramblings.😊
