thanks a lot for reading this story as well...finally Yash knows what made Aarti a recluse...About that line, I think unfortunately there are ppl who live their lives based on others' commands that they just do not think for themselves...It's sad actually...you will know Yash's actions in the next update...this story moves very slowly but sometimes I get too involved in the emotions that I just cant seem to snap out of it...so thank you for reading!
thanks a lot for your comments and support for this story! Yes, Aarti has suffered a lot and she feels that she is weak and hapless...you got that so spot on! And yash did try yto make her feel slightly better but I guess Aarti is too lost in her own fears that she was still trying to deal with her feelings...Originally posted by: Shashi1984
Superb update. Poor Aarti had to suffer very much because of her situation, because of her fears, because she thinks its her destiny, because she feels she was weak. And more importantly for Ansh she had to do what the Dubey's wanted her to do.
Yash was shocked to hear about her past. He knows that she kept the truth hidden, but he also knows that she had suffered so much and now after reliving those moments, she is in bewildered state. He support her and tried to make her comfortable.
They kids done magic and freshen up her mood. The pillow fight is awesome.
Thanks for the PM.

Thank you for your appreciation for this story and your kind words...I felt that I did dwell a fair bit on their feelings but I do hope the readers did get a better insights on their feelings...Ya, Yash is afraid to say anything to Aarti cause he does not know her honestly...they have just been parents to the children but have been distant in their relationship unless it involves the kids...Yash will understand her but it will take some time...the pace of this story is slow and I do not wanna rush things...
Part 9
She dropped the plate she was holding as she heard him spoke and the sound of glass shattering filled the dining room.
"Are you alright?" Vidhi babhi hurriedly came to Aarti as Aarti bend to pick up the broken glasses. "Your hand is bleeding."
"It's ok. It's nothing," Aarti assured Vidhi babhi. She must have cut herself picking up the broken glass pieces lying scattered on the floor, a reflection of how she felt inside.
"Yash, bring Aarti to the room and help her to apply the medicine," Maaji said and Yash stood up to follow his mother's instruction. Aarti wanted to tell Maaji that she was perfectly fine but she needed to get away from the tense atmosphere in the dining room so she reluctantly acquiesced. She could hear her children wanting to follow them to the bedroom but Bauji told the kids to finish their dinner first before they could leave the dinner table.
Yash was seated on the sofa and a first aid box was lying beside him when she came out of the bathroom after washing away the blood. He appeared pensive and she wondered if he was thinking of the ramifications of what he had just uttered during dinner.
"Do you need me to help you?" Yash asked as Aarti took the first aid box and placed it beside her on the bed. She shook her head. She did not need help with her hand as the cut was insignificant. She needed help understanding his actions and behavior after finding out about her past three weeks ago but she would never articulate that.
Flashback
The morning when she woke up in the hotel room back in Hyderbad and realisation sank in that Mansi had told Yash about her past, she had expected him to confront her. She waited dreadfully for him to have an outburst but he had said nothing, just transfixed watching the TV screen. When they reached home and Bauji asked about the trip, she had thought he would share with them what he had found out. After all, the Dubeys had cheated his family and Yash must have been fuming about that. But Yash had spoken about getting lost and missing the conference and everything else except what transpired in Hyderbad. She was confused by his actions and wondered about them until she stepped into their room that night, after putting the children to sleep, and saw him sitting on the sofa, a man on a mission. She anticipated the lashings as she sat before him but he only wished her good night. She had felt uneasy when she lay on the bed that night. A tiny part of her assumed that he was trying to protect her and perhaps that was why she was able to freely inform him about her life with the Dubeys but another part of her kept questioning if he could accept her as a mother to his children.
She also noticed that Yash has been observing her every action constantly which made her self-conscious. He never divulged what he was thinking or asked her anything unrelated to the children until a week after they returned from Hyderbad when he inquired what she really wanted in her life. Having long abandoned thinking about her life, she told him that all she wanted was to be a mother to their children and Yash had told her to rethink about it carefully. He had asked her again a few days later if she would be contented with this life that she was leading now and she had answered him yes. Even during her phone conversations with Mansi, Mansi had kept probing her to analyse her current life and whether she wanted to change her situation to achieve her dreams. She had told Mansi that in the past six years, she had never felt any happier than being with the children and she had no other dreams except the children. She could almost forget her past when she was with them although she was not going to admit that she still struggled with her emotions for Ansh.
Nowadays when she looked at Ansh, she was always reminded of Prashant but she tried to fight those feelings and usually she won. However at night when she laid on the bed all by herself, she could never shake those memories away. She knew that Yash was aware of the nightmares that she has been having since her past came to light. He had casually suggested to her that perhaps she should seek professional help about her nightmares when they were discussing Ansh's admission to a kindergarten and when she had asked him what he meant by that, he had left the question unanswered.
She also had a nagging suspicion that Yash has been discussing her with Mansi. Mansi had started talking to Aarti about getting some help to deal with her recurring nightmares when she had never shared that information with Masi. Her relationship with Mansi was a little strange as they tried to get back to how they were previously but somehow the years that have gone by have changed them and the gaps were noticeable. She knew now that Mansi had gone to the States according to Dubeys' instructions because they had threatened to destroy her family if she disobeyed. Aarti never blamed Mansi for it but Mansi had told Aarti that she was filled with shame and hoped to assuage her guilt now that she was reunited with Aarti. It must have been God's plan for Mansi to attend the same conference as Yash in Hyderbad as her Company in the United States was planning to tap into the India market. Mansi was now living their youthful dreams of being an architect. Maybe because of their differing lifestyles, there were more silence than words to be shared between them.
End of Flashback
The knock on their door startled Aarti out of her deep thoughts.
"Yash bhaiyya, Bauji said to meet him in his room if you are done helping Aarti babhi," Prateek passed the message and took his leave. Yash stood up and trailed after Prateek to Bauji's room and Aarti worried about what would happen there. She wanted to ask Yash why he would even propose such a thought to Bauji without consulting her but the words were stuck in her throat.
After putting the plaster on her cut, she walked to the children's room and could hear the shouting from Bauji's room. Her heart beat accelerated. Perhaps Yash has told them the truth about her and they were furious that he waited so long to tell them. She did not think she could survive if they kicked her out like what the Dubeys said they would. That tiny bit in her wanted to cling on to the believe that Yash would protect her no matter what but every other fiber of her being recalled Dubey's words that the Scindiyas would never accept such a woman in their family.
She forced a smile as she saw the children getting themselves ready for bed despite being fearful of her destiny. They were always jubilant to greet her and that made her feel special. Even after they had fallen asleep, pleased with the story she had narrated, she stayed behind and watched them sleep. She willed herself to remember everything about Palak and Payal and every memory she reminisced was like a knife chipping away her heart. When her gaze fell on Ansh, she was instantaneously hit with remorse as she was such a selfish mother. She had only been concerned with her inability to live on if things fell apart and did not even spare a thought for her son. Ansh would have what he considered his family swept away from under his feet if the Scindiyas told them to leave. Her son was always suffering because of her and she promised herself then that she would comply with whatever the Scindiya's ordered as long as she and Ansh could stay there as part of their family.
She did not know how long she stayed back in the children's room but when she dragged her feet back to their room, Yash was there waiting for her. She swallowed as she headed for the bed, waiting for the judge to pass his sentence. She could feel Yash's eyes on her and she tried her best to keep her composure.
"I spoke to Bauji. He agreed to let you help out with the Company."
She merely nodded. She did not think she was capable of saying anything without crumbling. How did he convince Bauji to allow her to work? During dinner a few days ago, Pankaj bhiayya had brought up that their subsidiary, Scindiya Architecture and Design, were shorthanded as they had a few resignations recently and he was afraid this could affect the progress of few big development projects they won recently. Scindiya Architecture and Design draws and creates the building models as the subsidiary had the license while Scindiya Development performs the actual construction. It came as shock to everyone at the dining table just now when Yash suddenly broached the topic if Aarti could help out since she had studied architecture. Even before the words could register in Aarti's mind, Bauji had bellowed if Yash had lost his mind and Aarti had dropped the plate. Now Yash was saying that Bauji had conceded to Aarti helping with the Company? What about the children? Did he tell them about her past?
"Actually you do not need come to work every day. They will issue you the laptop and materials and you can do work from home. You may need to attend the meetings if necessary and just update Raul, your supervisor on your progress. I can even help you submit your materials and you can just discuss issues with him via telephone if that is ok."
Aarti did not think it would as effortless as how Yash described but she said nothing. She was still trying to come to terms that she had to start working. Did he tell them about her past?
"You can do the work during your free time when the children are taking their naps or when Palak is doing her homework or ... Maaji agreed that they will limit your involvement for the household chores," Yash explained. He looked at her as though expecting her to say something.
"You will be doing simple things Aarti. The Lever Building needs an extension and we have won the contract. I am not sure what they will assign to you but it will be something that is not so complicated. Raul knows that you have never worked before so he will definitely guide you. I do not know much about this actually but we will find out tomorrow ok," Yash continued. Aarti could tell he was nervous from the way he was playing with his hands but she still could not come up with any appropriate response so she merely nodded. Finally he said they should turn in and she wished him good night.
The next morning, she was filled with dread as they made their way to the office. She was in the same car as Yash while the rest were in another car. She had said goodbye unwillingly to Payal and Ansh who were confused where their mother was going. Palak had already set off for school earlier and Yash promised that she would be back before Palak came home. Maaji and Vidhi babhi were very considerate and had told her to spend time with the children instead of assisting with breakfast preparation. They could sense Aarti's reluctance in joining Yash's madness but they never discussed that. She wondered if Yash had told them about her past but it seemed unlikely cause Vidhi babhi was not someone who could pretend and would have asked Aarti about it. She pondered what Yash had told his family that she was allowed to go out and work?
"We are here. Our office is at level 23," Yash spoke as soon as he was done parking. Aarti followed Yash's lead, filled with anxiety. She really had no idea what she was getting herself into but she knew she had to do this for Ansh. She owed him that as his mother.
"This is it," Yash announced as he tapped his card and pushed the door opened. Aarti found herself facing rows and rows of desks, cubicles, and an alley with rooms to her right as she stepped into the office. The other employees were just streaming in and many of them greeted Yash and gave her a strange look. Maybe she should have worn something different and let down her hair. No wonder Yash had given her a surprised look and had asked her twice if she was ready to leave when she came down in her bun and the normal saree she wore at home. But it was not supposed to matter what others thought of her. She was only in the office so she and Ansh could continue to live with the Scindiyas.
"I will introduce you to the department you will be helping. Let's go."
She was suddenly swept with fear and her legs refused to move. As if Yash could tell she was a nerve wreck, he swiftly clasped her hands. Instinctively she wanted to pull away but the warmth of his touch was inexplicably soothing her soul. He squeezed her hands as if to assure her that with his presence, things would go fine. After saying the awkward "hello" and "hi" to her colleagues, Yash finally brought her to see Raul, her supervisor. She learned that the supervisors sat in a cubicle and the head of departments and above all had a room. Aarti had to explain to Raul that she did not even complete her university education and the last time she ever learned architecture was six years ago and what she did in her internship. Raul seemed to be very understanding and promised her what she was to be assigned to was befitting to her level of experience. He must have meant lack of experience.
"Good luck," Yash said as he squeezed her hand again and slowly let go of his grip after they reached the desk Aarti was assigned to. She was used to him holding her hand the past few torturous minutes of her life that her fingers unexpectedly felt cold.
"Thank you," she said softly, the fear returning and began to gradually engulf her now that she was aware Yash would not be around as he would be at another level since he was working in the corporate office.
"Just ask around ok if you do not know,"Yash whispered and smiled at her but he could not conceal his worried eyes from Aarti. Honestly Aarti did not know what Yash's plan was but she would do anything to stay at the Scindiyas. She just hoped Yash knew what he was doing and wanting to achieve by doing this as she watched him walked away.
