I had predicted that this was going to be an adorable VM as soon as I read the song title, but even that knowledge was not enough to prepare me for what I actually saw! (You can consider this comment your birthday gift from me, if you'd like...Happy birthday, darling!)
Maham, through this VM, you made me fall even more deeply in love with Kratika's subtle power of expression! You know that I was pretty far gone in my admiration for Kratika's nuanced expressions already, ever since that fateful promo...But watching your VMs always, always leaves me in awe because they tend to highlight all of her best, most lovable moments as Aarti, and I can't thank you enough for all the effort you put into making these VMs! 🤗
I loved every single moment of this. I'm not exaggerating! I don't think you'll find that hard to believe, since you know how I am...
- "...teri khushboo chal rahi hai jo mere saath mein" - I wasn't surprised to see this with the lyrics here, but I remember being very surprised the first time I saw that scene! The latent sensuality hidden in that little gesture of Aarti closing her eyes, smelling the jersey, holding it to her cheek, and then smiling at it gently...It's amazing how she makes it seem innocently sensual, kind of like her body language in Promo 3. A very beautiful paradox comes to life in Aarti, because she is a beautiful paradox...Portraying that in such a subtle manner is a challenge, but Kratika makes it look as effortless as breathing!
- "Halka halka rang beete kal ka..." - Love. Two things above all. One: the cloth slips gently on the first "halka," which was perfect! Two: that throwback moment! The curl of her fingers, the way she looks at her hand after he touches her...That was the exact moment and expression I remembered while watching the episode the first time! These are the little nuances that I love so, so much about Kratika's portrayal. Those mannerisms and little movements that are so much a part of Aarti, they define her...and it's actually like Kratika is living Aarti's life, the way her body language transforms and those gestures are so natural.
- "...gehra gehra kal ho jaayega..." - Her watching him rise from the ground and wave the cloth in front of her face: loved the timing of Yash waving the cloth! It went nicely with the echo, kind of like a teasing echo...
- The interlude: Those promo moments are just too beautiful...Kratika's smile lights up everything! At 1:53, Aarti's smile begins to fade and the movements fit very well with the music - subtle, but complementary!
- "...mehka mehka kal ho jaayega..." - Just HAD to mention this because I love how Kratika's make-up reflects Aarti's fatigue in a way, but she still looks SO beautiful. I felt that Aarti's exhaustion also came through in this scene very, very subtly from Kratika's expression, and that was nice; also, that sukoon that softens her expression gives the whole scene a warm, comfortable feeling. A sort of drowsy feeling, if you know what I mean.
- "Aadha ishq aadha hai, aadha ho jaayega..." - There is no limit to her cuteness! Absolutely no limit! She carefully opens one eye just a tiny bit, squints through it, sees Yash isn't there, opens both eyes, looks around to watch him leave, curls her fingers together, smiles to herself, and looks at Ganesha before smiling to herself again...How sweet is she?! Her smile brings a smile to my face automatically - that's how infectious her smile is!
- Interlude: Thankfully I read Samana's comment about the possible interpretations of "aadha ishq" before writing this. That comment is what came to mind while watching this part, especially during the part where Yash looks over at Aarti, she wipes away her tears, and then he offers her his handkerchief, which she accepts...The little moment after the game, where Yash is looking at Aarti and she is smiling very, very softly: that was beautifully placed, in perfect sync with the lingering "aadha ishq..." at the end of the interlude! Like Aarti's half-expressed feelings and thoughts, fading into silence and nothingness, as the seemingly endless wait continues...
- "thehra thehra kal ho jaayega..." - So, so, SO pretty! Those soft smiles have always been my undoing! That's never going to change. Aaah, the 'Iktara' sequence! (Random thought that hit me as I watched that part in this VM: Kratika reminds me so much of Kajol there! I was stunned for a moment...)
- The silent chuckle at 4:11 - Perfect timing yet again! The entire "Shakkar?" part is adorable; I love love love the smile on her face and the way she tilts her head from side to side! She has the amazing ability to tell a story with her face, wordlessly, in seconds! The smile Aarti/Kratika sends straight to Yash/Gurmeet at 4:24 is one of my favorite parts of that scene, it seemed like such a Kratika-to-Gurmeet moment (but one tiny superficial thing put a little blot on the beauty of that moment...I bet you know what it is. It was oddly amplified in that one shot, strangely enough - forgot if it was as noticeable in the entire sequence...Maybe it was and I just don't remember.)
- The circling at the end: their coordination is very impressive! Perfectly in tune with each other, they reach at the same time, pull away at the same time, bend at the same time, and come up together...Brilliant direction and execution! Aaah, what a lovely way to end a masterpiece!
I love you, TSM! 😳 Thank you once again for this showreel of sweetness!
