SLEEP(part 7)
"I'm Nandini"
Prithvi nearly stumbled, but caught himself in time.
"Nandini!"
A pair of kohl lined mischievous eyes flashed in front of his eyes. A beautiful face. A charming smile. The upturned nose. the ability to get under his skin.his Nandidni. No.. couldnt be. Becoze his Nandini was Sanyogita. This wasnt his Nandini. Couldnt be.He shook his head slightly as if satisfied with his conclusion.
She turned around with a small smile, with full intent of apologizing and thanking him.
Seeing the slightly shocked and wondrous look on his face, the feeling of dj vu came back to Sanyogita.
Something about this man, the way he carried himself , the way he brought out the hidden aspects of her personality, tugged at her sub conscious.
She kept looking at him, trying to place the exact moment she might have seen him before. The harder she tried, the deeper the memory hid itself.
Prithvi schooled his features into wat he hoped was a neutral expression and indicated with a shake of his head ,for her to move forward.
P: where do u come from?
Sanyogita looked at him as he walked by her side.
S: I'm from ka…..
Her words were cut short by an arrow that had just missed her face by a few inches.
Prithvi whipped around to find an adivasi a few feet from them, getting ready to aim again. it took him less than a minute to get rid of him.
He turned to her shaking his head.
P: what is it with Nandini and dangerous situations?
Before Sanyogita could reply or even understand the significance behind his words, she noticed movements around them.
"Karan, there are more ppl out there" she whispered.
"Nandini, when I give the word, I want u to run. Don't argue, don't look back. Just run.
I need u to listen to me just this once" he whispered back in a tone that sounded like the command of a man used to giving orders and having them obeyed.
Sanyogita who had just been getting ready to argue, realized that without a weapon, she was just going to b in his way.
A split second later, just moments before the adivasis moved out into the open, he gave her the nod. And she took off.
He was surrounded by the adivasis. Not sure of wat their problem was, but nonetheless, ready to fight them off. There were 5 of them.
His rite arm was feeling heavy and the cut had started bleeding again.
He focused his attention on the men around him. Just as there was a movement to his left, before Prithvi had even turned, the man to his left let out a cry and stumbled to the ground holding his leg.
Within the next few seconds, two more of the men were on the ground howling in pain.
The remaining two were frantically looking around for the hidden threat from the skies.
Prithvi simply moved forward and made good use of their distraction and finished them all off .
After staying for a few seconds to make sure there weren't any more surprises. He started walking in the general vicinity of where he assumed his unexpected savior was.
The guy had pretty bad aim. None of the arrows had actually killed anyone. Prithvi frowned. Or else the person was extremely gud. Coz the arrows had all pierced the exact same spot above and behind the knees.
As he got to where he thought the person would b, he found no one. They must have left in a hurry.
This brought to his mind someone else who had left in a hurry.
She was probably lost again. He would have to track her.
As he moved a few feet away, he saw something on the ground that caught him by surprise. A lady's slipper.
He wasn't prepared for wat he saw next.
S: Are you just going to stand there or help me down?
Not sure he was seeing clearly, he shook his head and blinked hard at the sight of her sitting, half dangling from a tree not a few feet from him.
Wordlessly he moved forward and helped her down..
It was only when her feet touched the ground and she had moved back, did he notice something else.
A bow was strapped to her bac.
She was the one who had helped him.
The spoilt, temperamental, annoying, beautiful brat had saved his life.
Today was a day of surprises.
P: I dint realize u could fly..
S: fly?!
Prithvi looked at the tree and then pointedly at her clothes.
She was slightly embarrassed. Truth was, it had been hard getting up the tree dressed the way she was.
Prithvi heard her sigh and assumed she was embarrassed about the whole thing. After all no well bred young lady would like to caught climbing trees like a street urchin.
To alleviate her discomfort he hastily changed the topic.
P: u need better practice. Trying aiming higher next time.
S: my aim was perfect thank u very much.
P: wait, so ur telling me, u WERE aiming at the knees? And u got each shot even in the dark?
Sanyogita couldn't figure out what his problem was. One min he looked like he was laughing at her, the next he looked like he wanted to kill her or at least dump her in the jungle and then now he was all like he didn't believe her.
She had just saved his life, her hair was a mess, her clothes were snagged and dirty.
On top of all that, she was hungry, tired and missing vaishali.
She was just about ready to scream at something and he was making himself a very tempting target.
P: next u'll tell me u can use a sword too.
S: Yes, as a matter of fact. I can. Very nicely. But I prefer my bow. It's less… messy..
Prithvi blinked.
She had just told him she could use a sword and had demonstrated a skill at archery that could give Chand a run for his money. She considered swords as messy.
Contradiction, thy name was Nandini.
Sanyogita noticed his wound then.
S: oh no... we should really get that checked. I think it may need stitches.
Prithvi nodded and they both started moving towards a far off light.
Sanyogita silently prayed it wasn't adivasis again. She was out of arrows.

The next morning, the sun was barely up in the sky when she awoke.
She looked over at his cot and found him asleep with an arm over his eyes.
She tip toed out as silently as possible, not wanting to disturb him.
As she stood outside the hut, a thought occurred to her.
For the past few weeks her sleep pattern had changed. She now had a few full nites of undisturbed sleep. And yesterday had been one of the most restful nights she had had in a long time. She smiled .The yatra was doing wonders.
Prithvi woke up when the rays of the sun hit his face a good hour later.
He automatically turned his head to check up on her, fully expecting her to b sound asleep.
To his surprise the bed was empty.
He quickly got up and went outside but all he saw were a few woman and children. No Nandini.
" she better not have gone 'exploring' again" he thought to himself as he caught sight of vaidji, his daughter and a young boy with them.
As he stepped out to meet them, the boy and girl went inside the hut.
V: how is ur wound now maharaj?
P(smiling): I'll survive. Thank you very much vaidji, for dressing my wound and giving us shelter.
V: no no maharaj. It was my pleasure and honor to b of service to Delhi's maharaj Prithvi Raj Chauhan. U are the pride of us all..
P: vaidji, I must make a request. No one knows who I am. I'm on some state business and it's imperative that I stay incognito.
V: of course, I understand maharaj, I mean, sir.
Suddenly the girl cried out from inside the hut.
As Prithvi and Vaidji ran inside, they found someone lying on the floor.
G:I don't know wat happened. One min she was standing and then when I turned around she was on the floor. Without a sound.
Prithvi's eyes narrowed. "she?!" the boy on the floor was a she. His eyes widened when he spotted a familiar scar on the wrist . It was Nandini! He yanked off the shawl covering her face and quickly piked her up, laying her on the cot as the girl got some water.
Why was she dressed like a boy??! And why had she fainted?! Prithvi felt worry wash over him in waves as he stared at her beautiful, but pale face.
Sanyogita opened her eyes slowly. She could see three concerned faces above her. The one that stood out before her, however, was his
Prithvi.
Not Karan.
Her Prithvi.
She stared up at him, tears blurring her vision.
For years she had waited to see him while at the same time dreading the moment. She wanted to throw herself in his arms and beg his forgiveness. , but she couldn't do that. Not yet. Not when she still had time with him.
She turned away from him and burst into tears.
ok i guess thats it for this week...do let me know how it was and if there were bits u like /disliked
