THE REAL STORY
Prithviraj Chauhan of Ajmer was only 14 when he became king. His father was a good friend of king of kannauj. His mother was the sister-in-law of the kannauj king as his wife was her sister. Prithviraj and jaichand of kannauj were cousins therefore.
When prithvi's father gave him delhi, jaichand was not jealous initially. The cousins had 8 years diff between them. But they were close to each other.
Prithvi had a sister, either his twin or older to him by a year or two. He had a younger brother by 4 years. Sannyogita being a daughter of jaichand, her father adopted his elder sister's younger son as his heir. This boy was older to sannyogita by 3 years. Prithvi was sannyogita's uncle by relation, older by 4 years. Jaichand also had another daughter, from another wife, who was younger to sannyogita by 6 years.
At first kannauj and ajmer were allies. Trouble started when prithvi became king. He was getting successful and jaichand's mind was slowly poisoned by a minister whom prithvi's father had banished. He then made his adopted son vow to become prithvi's enemy(the two were childhood friends. Sannyogita and prithvi met when they were mere toddlers so they hardly knew each other. But sannyogi's brother and prithvi studied together at a gurukul.)
It was when he was 15 or 16 when prithvi and sannyogi met in disguise. Sannyogi was very much different from what is shown on the serial. She was a skilled archer, swordfighter, fighter etc. She was highly pampered by her father and was encouraged to learn all sorts of manship arts. She was trained by her father like a warrior but at the same time learnt duties of princesses. Also she was beautiful and had a feminine charm. She was of a tomboyish mentality.
She always used to hear about prithvi and hero worshipped him. When she learnt of her father's new hostility towards prithvi, she wrote to him, wanting to meet him. Prithvi and his brother and two friends came to see her in disguise at a mandir near kannauj. The two fell in love. She warned him that kannauj was becoming hostile towards ajmer.
The two kept in contact through secret means of communication. Jaichand one day learnt this. He then realised that because of sannyogi prithvi could avoid all kinds of plots against him that jaichand and few other jealous kings instigated.
Prithvi married when he was 18 on his mother's request. But the woman was impotent.
He married another girl (for progeny) the next year. Two sons were born.
But he was strongly in love with sannyogi. (According to historians, prithvi had 16 or 17 wives- thats impossible because kings hardly married more than 2 or 3. Only after muslims came to power that the harem system started with more than 5 wives and lots of mistresses).
Relations between ajmer and kannauj worsened when mohammed ghori(not mahmud ghazni) invaded. At the famous 1st battle of terain all differences temporarily meted out, prithviraj led a huge confederacy of rajputs succesfully against the islamic intruders.
At once after ghori's defeat-(with typical rajput chivalry prithvi forgave ghori)-prithvi eloped with sannyogi from her swayambhara. It was already planned between the two, as sannyogi appealed to prithvi. They got married at a small mandir near ajmer. A daughter was born soon after to them.
Jaichand was meanwhile furious. He then tried to ally with ghori and formed his own allies against prithvi. Prithvi vainly tried to make amends and be friendly, but jaichand refused to reconcile. Very soon the news of ghori's 2nd invasion came.
Prithvi tried hard to raise armies. He warned ghori and reminded him of having pardoned him. But jaichand secretly promised help to ghori. Prithvi and his allies met ghori's armies in the 2nd battle of terrain. The rajputs fought bravely and were winning the 1st round. However due to circumstances they were ultimately defeated. Reasons were that prithvi was unaware that there were spies and traitors working together in his camp. Also jaichand and his loyalists stayed neutral and rallied behind ghori.
Prithviraj chauhan was killed on the battlefield along with his brother and elder son. The younger son and few others escaped. The invaders left the king dead. A few of prithvi's loyal followers later came back to bury him in the battlefield.
Meanwhile prithvi's relatives at ajmer heard of the defeat. Sannyogita took charge of the fort and quickly shifted prithvi's female relatives to safety. Sannyogi and the few loyal protectors of the fort then armed themselves. Suddenly jaichand came, ahead of ghori, to take back his daughter. she refused to abandon ajmer.
Ghori enterd ajmer and the fort bravely held out, till ghori successfully enterd the fort. He wanted prithvi's legendary state treasure, which was hidden away. Sannyogi was the only survivor of the group which knew where it was. She bravely refused to surrender to ghori and was tortured (not forced or raped- a rajput woman those days always committed jouhar) sannyogi at last leapt from a window and fell several feet down to her death.
On that spot later she was buried by the famed loyal caretaker of the fort.
Jaichand returned to kannauj in grief. Ghori meanwhile looted ajmer. But he never found the hidden treasure. He then left prithvi's surviving son in charge of ajmer on many conditions. From then on ajmer became a controversial centre.
Later ghori attacked kannauj and drove away the rajputs from there and other kingdoms.
The rajputs scattered everywhere. Only few like jaipur, jodhpur, mewar, marwar etc survived and remained in power.
After three or four years of laying a foundation of his empire with delhi as the capital, ghori left for afghanisthan, leaving his former slave and successor qut-ud-buddin aibak on the throne-hence the founding of the slavik dynasty.

2 B honest....i dun cmpletely belive da above story..coz it soundz....😕 sad....n way 2 diffrnt.....
