For Anukalp , shattering the 'golden boy' image is not somehow silencing his mother and ensuring Mona stays there . For him , shattering that image is by revealing his limits to earn financially enough and on that front he kept silent to the very end .
Yes after many many days he finally stood up for Mona and it gave me some viewer satisfaction to see his tyrant mother bamboozled for a change . Felt sorry to see the stricken look on her face , but frankly , the lady ASKED for it . She was going on and on although her son had clearly hinted that HE did NOT mind if his wife did a side business . And if HE ...the husband , did not mind , it really was nobody else's business to even talk further on the subject and voice their views .
What then remained was for Ambaji to say ...Fine Then ...I personally DON"T approve , but since its ok with YOU ...I make it clear , She should manage the house and do her responsibilities before doing all this ...Let her not expect anything from me as I personally dislike this .
THAT MUCH would have been understandable . Her thinking is orthodox and regressive , so this wud have been understood . The matter wud have ended there .
But she did not do this . She was literally throwing her bahu out for attempting to do dress designing and earn some money on the side . This was the bottom line of what she was doing .
One does NOT throw a bahu out simply coz she wants to have a hobby the sasural disapproves of or coz she tried to earn some money . The sasural , especially a joint family , is comprised of various members and not everyone will like what the bahu is doing at all junctures . She may dress differently , eat different food , may have hobbies they never heard of or may try to earn money .One does not throw a bahu out for THIS . It is unheard of .
Has the bahu robbed in the house ?Has she committed adultery ? Has she backanswered the elders and challenged their authoritys ?Has she demanded a legal share in the property by throwing tantrums ? These r serious issues and worth considering for throwing a bahu out . Mind u ...even THEN some bahus DON"T budge and stay put .
Its a MARRAIGE . Mona's parents shud have come and asked Ambaji what the hell was she doing ...throwing a bahu out coz she decided to earn some money on the side . Just see how that sounds . And oh yeah , she cud not cook ONE DAY . See what the courts say to THAT .
Ambaji needs a BLASTING . Her son was mild . What bull was she talking of the tradition of the Gandhi parivar bahus never working as if it was a royal family of Gujrat or something ...her father in law ...a generation above her seemed to have no problems whatsoever with the fact that his little bahu was doing this business . Since He is a Gandhi who has lived with the traditions of that household even before Ambaji came in it as a bride , isn't he entitled to know more about those so called traditions and values that she toots . Isn't he allowed to voice an opinion ?
Where was Ambaji's value as a bahu when she silenced the old man by telling him to butt out of the conversation between her and Anukalp by stressing pointedly that Anukalp is MY beta ...I know what MY beta is trying to tell me , this is between HIM and ME .
The men in the family have to stand silently like castrated men while Ambaji bullies the hell out of a young girl , not listening to any voice of reason . Half the things are MADE UP by her ... especially the part of the so called Gandhi Parampara ...the Gandhi men have honestly no problem with what Mona does .
Why should that young girl cook and clean for the whole house if The mother in law announced that the business she does will get no co operation from her and was ready to throw her out for it ? She should ideally say ...Ok , then I will cook and clean for Myself and Anukalp only ...You guys manage your own cooking and cleaning !
That young girl will do business , get zero cooperation , cook for ALL , clean for ALL and what will these able bodied women do ? Sit and chat and do Chao Chao in Gujrati and gossip that the theplas Mona tried to do are not upto their taste ?

Everyday That Anukalp comes home to be surrounded by the gang of women in his family who tell him tales of his young wife even before he can go to his room and rest or drnk a cup of tea while his young wife cowers with fright on the staircase or behind a pillar for doing nothing wrong except the most trivial of things like forgetting to cook a dish or going out for an hour or two .
Such bitches [ pardon my language] need to be kept in thorough check . Neither will my wife go anywhere , nor do I object to what she does , so U guys don;t talk in this matter and make faaltu issues , maybe its YOU guys who need something better to occupy u so that u stop hounding that young girl is what Anukalp shud tell ALL the women in his house one day .
And Ambaji need NOT feel so bad when it suddenly dawned on her that indeed its Anukalp who is running the house and deserves to have a say in the matter too . Its a bloody FACT . If she is seriously expecting him to deliver pay checks every month for feeding the whole lot , the fact that he WILL have a say when HIS wife is being kicked out goes without question . If she seriously expects he shud nOT have say , she is being plainly tyrannical .
And Mona is NOT a RAASTE KA PADA MAAL to be thrown out at her whim . She has MARRIED Anukalp and come in the house . She has the SAME status as the other Gandhi women . Legally and Ehtically BOTH .
Btw , the next time Ambaji toots the name of the Gandhis as if they were royalty , someone should tell her that Indira Gandhi with the same surname ruled the country and was a wife and mother too .
