"one minute ma'am" the woman at the desk got up and went over to talk to someone, Pratigya saw her talk to some man he shook his head.
"sorry ma'am we have strict permission from your father's wife that you are not allowed anywhere near him.
"huh what.. why.. I please he is my papa, he will want to see me.." she said her voice almost breaking.
"ma'am I'm sorry there is nothing we can do for you, unless she grants permission"
"can you at least tell me how he is doing what is his condition?"
"sorry it's confidential we are not allowed to give those details out" Pratigya felt like her world was crushing what sort of game is life playing with her. She sat down on the chair she had been sitting there the whole night, in hope that someone she knew, would give her some information. She sat on the chair thinking about how this happened, how her father came to this state, what exactly happened.. but her mind kept coming up with a blank. It was 7am. Her phone rang it was Krishna. She attended it "Pratigya I need you to work early say get here for 8am and finish at 11pm? me and Preeti have got to attend a dinner.. sorry I know its short notice"
"I'll do it!"
"you will?.. ok great thanks" he was surprised by her quick response. She cut the call, and was about to leave, when she saw kaki come she got up from the seat
"any news?" with hope in her eye she hoped it was good, kaki shook her head.
"uhh I wish I can see him him, I haven't seen him once, I have been here the whole night and not once I got a chance to see how he is doing" she tried to hold her tears back but they flowed.
"This Kaushailya why is she being so difficult" she wiped Pratigya's tear, and held her hands in hers
"don't cry beta, I will see what I can do ok?" Pratigya nodded.
"I have to work so I have to leave now, can you call me if you can even convince her to let me see him just once its enough." She sniffled.
"I will try my level best and if it happens I will call your cell immediately"
"thanks" Pratigya took her bag and left for work. She didn't even have a chance to change or even eat breakfast she was worried sick about her, father, and now she didn't know what to do about it. She parked up and rang the door bell to Krishna's mansion. Sight for sore eyes non other than Preeti opened the door.
"you're here earlier" Pratigya walked in not saying anything, I must tell Krishna give to give you a raise on your punctuality " mocked Preeti.. "Siya is upstairs and Krishna told me your staying till late, don't worry you will get double salary. She turned around to see she was indeed talking to herself, Pratigya was gone. "that was rude" Preeti shook her head. Pratigya didn't eat any food most the day, every chance she got she checked her phone to see if she got a message but there was nothing. It was approaching 7pm. Krishna came and saw her, she was in a bottle green sari, holding Siya to her chest patting her to sleep. For a fleeting moment his mind compared Preeti and Pratigya and their maternal instincts. In his mind Pratigya emerged the winner. stop staring at them' Preeti came into the hall. "let's go"
"ok you both have fun" he came close to Pratigya and sat next to her and kissed Siya's head, Pratigya didn't even flinch it was like she was in another world. "take care" he said giving her shoulder a squeeze, her mind was on her papa she didn't think about anything else not even him. Krishna was confused.. "and Pratigya a quick note dadi said Siya some nights comes out of her crib so just keep an eye on that" she nodded as a response.
"come on sweetheart we will be late" said Preeti.
"We will be off now" he said to her, Pratigya looked in his direction but he didn't get the reaction he usually did she seemed miles away. what did you expect you spoke to her so rudely yesterday' Later that night Pratigya put Siya to sleep upstairs, and sat downstairs, still no call, finally a call, it's a private number.
"hello..Ayush? hi.. yeah how are you, yah, you ok?..yes I'm still working for him.. (tut) I need the money.. I know.. yes.. maybe but not this week I'm busy.. ok will call you later.. ya..bye" she cut the call, she had so much on her plate, ex-boyfriends were something her mind did not need right now. They said 10pm and still no one is home and I really need to try at the hospital again . She sat down on the sofa holding her phone. Shortly the door opened. "I'm exhausted pour me a large one" said Preeti as she walked through the door. "oh my god Krishna!" Preeti pointed to the staircase, "Siya" he shouted and raced up the stairs and grabbed her..
"shh it's ok beta, I'm here na its ok" he calmed down a crying Siya. "where the hell is Pratigya!".
"Maharani is a sleep on the sofa" Holding Siya securely he raced down the stair Krishna was shocked at this.
"Pratigya! He yelled, Her eyes flew open, she sat up. She saw Krishna holding Siya and Preeti a few steps away from him.
"sleep in your own time, we don't pay you for this!" shouted Preeti. she was lost for word
"sir I ... , she quickly got up from the sofa.
"I don't want to hear it, lucky we got home otherwise who knows what could've happened to her. He was rocking Siya, who was still not settling. "I even reminded you that she is crawling out of her crib, to take extra care"
"oh my god Siya" she covered her mouth shocked at what she just heard. "Siya I'm so sorry beta" she went to take Siya from Krishna but he didn't let her.
"Preeti take her upstairs.. and you, if you weren't up for it why did you say yes?!"
"I... I" he took her phone from her hand..
"Ayush? too busy chatting to your ex to care..
"what no it's not like that"
"Pratigya you have been extremely careless you leave me no choice.." Krishna give me my phone someone could've rang me about papa'
"you will have to find another job"
"ok, can I have my phone?" he did not expect this response at all.
"ok?" did you hear me Pratigya your out of the job?"
"phone?" she held her hand out for it, he gave the phone to her. She took her bag and left the house without a glance back. Her mind was in overdrive what the hell was happening.. she sat down in the car. What Krishna just fired me? It just sank in now. "I could lose papa and not even get a chance to see him for the last time, I will be all alone in this world, with no job, no family no home?" the thoughts were daunting. She drove unsteadily and reached the hospital. "kaki!" she called. "anything?.."
"I'm sorry I tried my best.. she won't budge" Pratigya looked so tired and worn out she sat on the chair, lost of hope, she closed her eyes to take it all in.
"anything about papa any news.." she asked in a small voice.
"beta I did find out but its not good news..he is in a coma, doctor's are not sure of anything. Pratigya face lost all colour. She couldn't believe this was happening when did life take the worst turn.

"what?"
"where is Pratigya?"
"not here..and your going to have to find a new babysitter, she's been dismissed.
"what you did this without informing me?" how are we going to find a babysitter on such short notice.
"I will not pardon Siya's life when its in danger."
"but what about me my social life sure it in danger without that madam around to look after your laadli"
"enough Preeti" the bell rang. "I'll be upstairs" Sargam opens the door.
Gauri came in a rush.
"Gauri?"
"yeah Krishna, have you seen or heard from Pratigya.
"no not since last night, she is out of the job?"
"what why..
"you know what she did she fell asleep on the job, how careless I was shocked as I thought she is so good with Siya but lately I don't know its like she isn't there, the lights are on but no one is home"
"Oh god, I'm so worried about her I just got off a plane and I find out not only her dad is in a coma but she hasn't even been allowed to see him"
"what.. her dad's in coma oh when did this happen?"
"don't know but what I do know is she hasn't slept in 2 days she is worried sick about him, it's so unfair Pratigya is the nicest person I know so full of life, but right now she is going through a tough phase.
"oh god and I made it worst by firing her"
"she did a double shift she needs the money but bechari is worried sick, and her step mum is a nasty piece of work she won't let her anywhere near him, I'm worried sick where is she no one has heard from her.
"Right come with me we will find, her tell me any place she may like or would go to maybe as a child or just to be alone"
"yes let's go" without any words further Krishna went to search for her, Gauri in tow.

"maa why didn't you just take me with you and my sister, I hate my life, there is nothing worth living for, papa too is taken from me, I can't see him so he might as well be gone.. tears streamed down her face. "Anything I do just goes wrong, maybe its me I maybe cursed I ruin everything. Maa I wish I could see you again.
