Chapter 4

The shoot schedule went along steadily enough. She managed to have a hurried lunch with one of her cast colleagues, who had brought in some home cooked food which was a rare luxury.

The colleague played her grandmother in the show and always had loads of affection for Her both on and off set and today, of all days, that affection was really welcome. They chatted and joked for all of 15 minutes probably, but it was enough to lift her spirits. A quick glance at the clock showed she would be on in three minutes just enough time to get some water.

It was there she bumped into Him.

" Hi," she looked up at him earnestly "Look I'm really sorry about last night. It's just that-"

"Hey-no need to apologise," he cut in "I've forgotten it already"

That's the second time today she had heard that phrase, Do people really forget that quickly, she wondered

"Listen about this evening-"He began to say but then one of the studio boys hollered for them both to get on quick.

"We'd better go, besides, we can catch up later after the shoot. I am so looking forward to catching up it feels like ages-"

Her eagerness must have been so apparent that He put his hand on her shoulder to stop her

"That's just it I can't make it. I'm so sorry, I had totally forgotten I already promised to go out wi-"

"Oh no, no don't worry - it's cool, some other time maybe..erm...I'm up ahead."

She spoke very coolly; She didn't want to chance those eyes seeing through the facade and knowing she felt utterly crap. Spending time with Him was the one reason that kept her going today. She desperately wanted His friendship more than anything today, and now she wasn't going to even get that.

The scene went well enough. In it, She was supposed to doubt His love for her having found lipstick on his jacket. He was brilliant as ever, even ad-libbing a few bits here and there to add to the comedy of his character. Truly, He did this so well and made the character so authentic. The role was made for Him and he excelled in every take.

At the end they were required to hug having cleared the misunderstanding. They did so and as was always the case, He was effective and did the needful for a good shot. As they drew close though, She closed her eyes momentarily and thought.

"All day, this is what I've needed...and now I have you I'm damned if I let you go.."

In total defiance of the Boyfriend -correction she thought, ex-Boyfriend - she didn't just place her hands on Him lightly as usual. Instead She wrapped her arms right round Him tightly, clutching him to her as if she would drown without him.

"See?" said the inner voice, "feels good don't it?"

She squeezed her eyes more tightly shut as she knew she was close to getting teary and breathed deeply inhaling the faint scent of Him that was so familiar now. Life was so unfair, she thought sadly, why was it she couldn't see this earlier. At that exact moment, to her horror, she heard the the Director's voice shouting

"I said Cut sweetheart!!!!! You can let go of him now!"

They were chuckling around her and she quickly collected herself.

"Oh God, I was so tired I think I fell asleep on His shoulder!" she laughed nervously whilst glancing up at him. He had a slight smile on his face but His eyes showed some confusion. Before He could even ask her to clarify another lilting voice piped up

"Oh thank God you've finished! I've been waiting ages! C'mon let's go -I'm dying for a coffee. See you guys tomorrow,"

Stopping to peck Her cheek lightly the girl turned in Her direction

"It's been ages sweetie, we ought to catch up too. I promise I'll call you tomorrow. I've got so much to tell you," she added excitedly "Gotta dash now though, need my fix!"

With a meaningful glance in His direction the girl turned to take His arm and they both headed out of the set. He stooped only to turn around and give Her a fleeting glance but She deliberately put her head down to pick something imaginary off the floor to avoid his eye.

"Fix my ass," she thought, as she watched them leave.

"They don't say no smoke without fire for a reason. You wanna play with fire, girlfriend, then expect to get your fingers burned!"

As for Him, the little snake, how many times had he got all hot and bothered when the media called them an item?

He was so pissed he got all shirty with one prominent lot of them and stopped giving them interviews. She remembered how stroppy he got with her when in a joint interview they did together and, when questioned about whether he and the girl were an item, she had simply said she couldn't comment. He gave her a real hard time over that and didn't speak properly to her until She apologised and managed to make him understand no harm was intended - She just did what She thought was right.

To think She had thought...

"Forget it, they deserve each other - good luck to 'em! I couldn't care less!"

"Liar liar, chaddis on fire," sniggered the inner voice
