She looked up, and there it was - trouble. Those goons - they were staring right at her! Licking their lips, they shamelessly examined Pratigya from head to toe! Pratigya shuddered - they disgusted her - but she was still terrified of them! The first goon stepped off his bike and started to advance towards her. Pratigya couldn't move - she was frozen to the spot in terror! The other two goons started towards Pratigya as well.
'Look at this Angad bhaiya - looks like today is your lucky day!' they laughed. Angad looked at Pratigya through lustful eyes.. She started shaking - she stepped back as Angad grew closer.
'Yes, looks like today is my lucky day..' he breathed. He smirked at Pratigya. She turned - and ran! Angad managed to grab her dupatta and immediately took off after her, shouting 'Wait for me, meri jaan!'
'Babuji bhi na! He's too much - I offered to help out for a bit and he gave me the workload of an ordinary worker!' muttered Krishna, as he wiped the sweat off his brow. He walked down the over-crowded street, lost in his thoughts.. A girl bashed into him and he immediately snapped out of his thoughts.
'Are you mad?! Can't you.. see..' His voice faltered as he saw her face. She was running away now, her long, silky, black hair flowing freely behind her, her beautiful dark eyes complimenting her fair skin.. it was like her face had been carved by angels - no, she WAS an angel! She wore a light blue shalwar kameez with silver embroidery on it - it suited her creamy complexion so well.. He started to walk after her, until Angad and his friends barged past him.. holding a dupatta.. light blue.. silver embroidery.. hers. He gritted his teeth, anger bubbling up inside him - they were after her - they wanted what was his!
Pratigya ran inside the house and slammed the door shut. She prayed that they didn't know where she lived, but she couldn't bring herself to go outside and check. She placed her forehead on the door and breathed out heavily, trying to calm herself down. She turned - her aunt was standing right behind her, arms folded and an angry expression on her face.
'Where are the vegetables I told you to bring?' she said, coldly.
'Well, I - I.. I-' Pratigya stuttered.
'TELL ME!' her aunt shouted.
'I didn't bring them. There were some goons at the marketplace, so..' Pratigya's voice trailed off.
'So what? You decided you were too important to do any work? Hmm?' her aunt fumed.
'No - I..' Pratigya tried to explain.
'Bas! Stupid girl, you can't do anything right!' her aunt shrieked!
Pratigya wasn't stupid, infact she knew exactly what was coming, and braced herself for another brutal beating..
Pratigya had been lying on the floor for quite some time. She was still writhing in pain from the beating.. her uncle walked in and kicked Pratigya's side.
'Lazy girl, get up!' he commanded.
She pulled herself up off the floor and winced in pain.. She walked to her uncle who ordered her to go out and run some errands, even though it was dark outside! He saw Pratigya's pain, but contentedly decided to let her suffer. She cautiously set off for the town, praying that she would not encounter Angad and his friends again!
Krishna paced round his room - he couldn't get the girl out of his head! He had to meet her, more than anything! That was it - he was going to find her..!
Pratigya couldn't stand the pain. It was too much for her! She had been beaten before but this time was a lot more painful! She stopped and held a hand up to her forehead - she was blacking out! The pain reached the point of unbearable and Pratigya fainted..
There she was.. He grinned in delight! No, what was she doing? He saw her faint and took off - seconds later Pratigya was lying in Krishna's muscular arms! There was something wrong with her and he needed to make her better like he needed to breathe! He took her to the den and lay her down. For what seemed like a thousand years, he just stared at her.. She was so beautiful.. The full moon bathed her face in its silvery wash, her eyes were closed and her long lashes were sweeping down her cheeks.. She seemed so at peace, which sent a pleasant tingling down Krishna's back! He leant towards her, his face merely centimetres from hers - his heartbeat quickened as he placed his fingers upon her delicate skin. He touched her cheeks, relishing the fact that an angel had been given to him, to become his and his only.. He stopped suddenly - he noticed her neck was bright red.. He checked her arms, covered entirely with bruises. Someone had hurt her. Someone had beat her. Someone must pay.
