Pratigya on a Human Chain at Nariman Point...

24 December 2009 | 5:37pm
Star Plus' mew protagonist Pratigya gathers support in her fight against disrespect...

Joined by all STAR Plus protagonists and 500 women supporters in a HUMAN CHAIN at Nariman point, Mumbai

Most people just watch what's happening, some just bear with it, many grumble about it but only the strong-willed make sure they raise their voices against disrespect!

With the number of cases of crimes and injustice against women rising day by day, it was time to pledge social support and stand in unison against it! STAR Plus' newest protagonist Pratigya took this lead and gathered support from hundreds of women who joined in a Human Chain organized at Nariman point as a part of STAR Plus' 'Meri Pratigya' campaign. This Human chain also attracted protagonists from STAR Parivaar who stood together and pledged their support against disrespect and mistreatment met with women.

With an aim to take entertainment beyond television and impact people's lives, the channel launched a large scale consumer connect campaign called 'Meri Pratigya'. The first leg of this campaign flagged-off today with a Human Chain at Nariman Point, Mumbai, which had close to 500 women joining hands and supporting the movement. This Human chain led by Pratigya (Puja Gaur) gained support from all the leading ladies of the Star Parivaar like Parul Chauhan (Ragini of Sapna Babul Ka…Bidaai), Neha Saxena and Zalak Desai (Dhani and Sarla of Sajan Ghar Jana Hai), Krishna Gokani (Bhakti of Hamari Devrani), Shivshakti (Bebo of Sabki Laadli Bebo), Additi Gupta (Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil) in her endeavor to spread the message to fight back against disrespect towards women.

Commenting on this unique initiative, Anupam Vasudev, EVP, Marketing, STAR India Pvt Ltd, said, "Through Meri Pratigya campaign, we plan to reach out to our audiences & increase engagement with the show. Creating footprint in most of our Hindi speaking markets, the campaign will focus on finding real life stories and honoring the victor- it will honor heroes in everyday lives."

This activity was STAR Plus' first step in gathering support for Pratigya's fight against disrespect and mistreatment against women in everyday life. After Mumbai, this human chain will be replicated in places like Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Indore etc. The 'Meri Pratigya' campaign will reach out to women across the country asking them to share real life stories where they experienced disrespect at home, workplace or in public. The footprint of this campaign will extend to colleges, market-places and women's hostels across India. This initiative will involve sign-up campaigns, counseling workshops, which will be carried out in partnerships with NGOs against women disrespect.

Shooting of Pratigya halted for a day

The shooting of Pratigya, newly launched on Star Plus, was brought to a halt after about 70 unit members decided to go on a strike on Monday. The reason cited by one of the aggrieved members is the non-payment of the dues for the extra time they worked. The group included members from lighting, spot boy, setting and dress department.

Informs a member on the condition of anonymity, "We haven't been paid for the extra hours we had put in for the past one and a half month. We had been working hard for the show right from day one of the shoot which started in November. We stalled the shoot as the
production house kept dilly-dallying over the payments. This has been going on for the past 45 days; they kept promising but nothing happened. We were getting our salaries on time but didn't get paid for the extra time. The daily wage workers suffered the most.

"When we stalled the shoot on Monday, they gave us our cheques but only for half the actual amount. We refused to take the money and didn't resume the shoot. Finally they paid us the entire amount but terminated six to seven of us from service and the shoot resumed on Tuesday. We didn't want to resort to such a drastic measure but it pains you as you give your sweat and blood to a show and still not get acknowledged for that. I remember shooting from 9 am to 3 am in the following morning only to come back for the shoot at 7 am. We never complained as the money helps us run our kitchen and one can't ignore that."

When contacted, producer Pearl Grey of Spellbound Creations who is the
co-producer with Manmohan Shetty's Walkwater Media, said, "There was no strike but a few members tried to disrupt the shooting of the show. We
called up their association to sort out the matter and it was clear that they were at fault and their demands were uncalled for. We had decided to replace the guys and their dues were cleared. But later it came to our
notice that they were trying to instigate the other unit members against the production house which didn't go down well with us. According to the clause number 13 in our contract with them, the workers are to be paid per day and not per shift and they were trying to blackmail us on weak grounds."

All's well that ends well.

Engagement off?
Buzz up!

Star Plus' prime time show Mann Ki Awaaz Pratigya seems like it's headed for a major twist.

There's a lot of tension on the show between Krishna and Pratigya. Pratigya is engaged to Nitin, but only after showing her apparent dislike of Krishna.
A source said: "There will be major rona dhona happening in the show. This trauma will be because Krishna hasn't forgotten Pratigya and her slap at her engagement party."

Because of the stinging humiliation dished out to him, Krishna has been plotting that Pratigya's marriage get jeopardised in some way. And so he makes his moves. But because of this, it opens up an opportunity for Angad to avenge himself on Pratigya.
"And so he sends some goons to attack Nitin, her fiance," the source said.

We spoke to Pooja Gaur aka Pratigya, who acknowledged the fact that things were heating up: "There are going to be lots of twists in the life of Pratigya. She will be shattered when she comes to know that Nitin has been attacked and all of that has happened because of her."

So will her engagement be called off? "I really don't know if that's going to happen because I haven't yet been given the script, but anything is possible."

It's been a long time since one heard of actresses fainting on the sets of TV serials. Earlier it had become a trend of sorts! Vigorous schedules would cause people, particularly the women, to collapse during shootings. Recently, it happened again. Actress Pooja Gor fainted while shooting a wedding sequence for Mann Ki Awaaz.

Lavish weddings, whether on-screen or off-screen, can get really tiring and that's exactly what happened in this case. The elaborate marriage scene needed them to shoot till the wee hours of morning. With little to eat, long work hours and a lot of heavy jewellery, not to forget the bridal outfit, things went a little out of hand for the petite lass. "We had been shooting practically the entire day with just about four hours of sleep. When you don't have proper sleep it gets a little difficult to even eat well. It resulted in weakness and I collapsed," says Pooja. "I took a little break after that to regain my health and went back after a few days to continue with the sequence," she says. Talk about workplace hazards!

Pooja Gor, who plays the lead in Mann ki Awaaz has a story that reminds us of the TV commercial where a girl changes from an ugly duckling to a beautiful model, with her father's support.

Pooja apparently looked very different just a few years ago. "I didn't realise how much looks mattered in this world. Till the age of 18 I was very studious and not at all concious about how I looked. I wore huge spectacles and just didn't bother to dress up well. My father has always been my support and he recognised my talent and thought I was very pretty and gave me this entire makeover from hair to makeup everything you can ever think of. Today I'm a much more confident person and the only reason I'm here is because of my father."
