..Chapter I - Grieved..
She stared at the window with listless eyes. The city was covered in blanket of darkness as the slight thunder somewhere far invaded her silence, bringing along the cold rain. The same rain that once soothed her every problem was now causing her pain as it brought back the memories of past. Her eyes were bloody-red, but there was no sign of tears. She had become like a stone. She was fighting an inner battle whether she should cry her pain out or whether she should just sit there and question God that why was the person she loved the most, taken away from her. Even after that she still couldn't come to the agreement with the reality that her father left them alone in this world. She just didn't believe that something like that could happen to her. Her dad was supposed to hold her hand and take her through every hurdle of life, now who is she going to turn to? Who is she going to show her medals? Who is going to support her in making fun of Ayat? Who is going to make her believe that their is still hope and if she is determined enough she can do anything?
She felt as if there was no purpose of her life anymore. She held the book tight and close to her heart as she felt the pain again in her heart. She could literally feel as if her heart was going lose to pain and it would stop beating any moment. She closed her eyes waited for the pain to go away, but she knew that not even the time was going to fill this void.
She heard the sound of faint footsteps and she opened her eyes. Her mother was standing there with solemn expressions with plate of food in her hand. She came and sat next to her. She could see the redness in her mother's eyes along with the dark circles around her eyes, the sign of sleepless and painful nights. The entire house seemed empty and haunted after her father's death. It seemed like nothing existed anymore. She put her head back on her knees and closed her eyes as she held on to the book her father gifted her on her eighth birthday. She had been reading this book over and over ever since, but suddenly the book was taken away from her. She felt lost without it. She looked around crazily and met with her mother's angry eyes.
"Bohat hogaya. Aisa dikhta hai jaise koi laash saans lai rahi ho. Dard tumhei he nahi hum sab ko ho raha hai. Khud ko kamrey mein band kar ke rakha hai. saath mahinay hogaye aur is kamrey mai band pari ho. Na khana na peena na parhna. Roz bacho ki tarha tumhei khana dena parta hai. Aisa lagta hai jaisey marne ke irade se yahan baithi ho." Her mother's voice was stern, but there was subtle sadness in it.
Her mother held her arm and pulled her up and made her stand in front of the mirror
"Dekho khudko. Kahan hai uski Aliya, jis ki himaat pr woh naaz karte the. Jiski muskaan unki pehchaan thi. Jo Aliya unka ghroor tha. Agar aisay he idher bait kar zindagi guzaari to na khud se nazrein mila pao gi na apne Abu ki parvaarish se. Tumhari parhai unka sapna tha. Aur tum... tumhein na khud ki khabar hai na kisi aur ki."
Her hand fell from her mother's hand and she fell on her knees. She was running away from those thoughts, but her mother made her face them. But the thing that her mother didn't know was that she was scared to face the world without her Abu. She felt secured in her room. She had memories of her father and she made them her shield. She thought she was going to lose to the world if she faced the world without holding on to her father. She wanted to live in that room forever because she could still hear her father's voice telling her the stories whenever she fell asleep.
"Maine Bhaijaan se baat karli, kal tum Mumbai ja rahi apni parhai puri karne ke liye aur mai yahi umeed karti hoon ke tum apne Abu ki parvaarish ka maan rakho gi."

He didn't even realize and the clock struck two. He signed the last paper and closed the file. He picked up the file along with his jacket and phone. He turned off the light of his office and walked towards his secretary office and dropped the file in drop box. While walking towards the elevator, some memories of past rolled through his brain when he realized how lonely he was, but it was comfortable. His loneliness brought less chance of him making mistakes and others had less chance to hurt him. It has been so long since he had chosen solitude that he almost forgot what it really felt like to feel any emotion. It was so easy for him to lose track of time because there was nothing that he looked forward too. There was nothing waiting for him at his apartment except the depressing darkness and the abandoning loneliness.
The bland walls of elevator brought cruel memories. The memories of his first meeting with her. He couldn't believe someone could pierce his heart like the way she did. It seemed as if she killed mischievous Zee, the boy with golden heart and left behind Zain Abdullah, the guy who didn't even have a heart. No one dared to talk to him, it didn't even take him a minute to humiliate someone or take away someone's job.
Weaving through the slight traffic of the frosty night, he remembered the same dreaded night from years ago yet again. That icy wind that night seeped in to his heart along with painful sadness and left him cold and heartless, but no one cared. The world didn't even spare a minute for him when the piercing pain was sucking the life out of him. The night taught him to be heartless, emotionless and cruel just like December's icy-cold night is. That night he became a companion of darkness and he painted his world grey.
The dull tone of his phone brought him out of his disheartening memories and he looked at it as he plugged the earphone in his ear. It was a call from his father. He wasn't surprised because his father always called him at this time. His relationship with his father was his only relationship with the world of emotions, care and respect. His father was his only escape from the world of thorns and hate.
He talked to his father about all the possible projects in upcoming season and about the profit of his company. He purposely avoided talking about anything that included his past. They talked and his father told him from their business trip. Everything was fine until his father mentioned his niece and how she was supposed to come live with him because his father was leaving for the business trip and he very well knew that there was no way his father would let the girl stay at the home with his mother and Fahad's family.
"But dad-" He wanted to disagree, but even then he couldn't because it was a request from his father.
"For me Zain beta... take care of her until I come back."
"Jee Dad."
The bare thought of a girl living in his apartment boiled him to no end.
