It is possible because in those time it was not a matter of a true heir to the throne it was who had the most influence.

maybe they would have killed of the next heir, also we had Mirza rebelling against Akbar. who know, it was mostly greed that was driving then.

Adhan was all muscle and no brain, he was a brat who thought he deserved to be emperor because his mother was Jalal wet nurse.

The only way they could try to make claims to throne was by killing Jalal and Mirza both. But other ambitious ministers, generals could also try to win the throne for themselves then. It is a two-edged sword.
