Saad sunya kaaljachi tujhya kaani jaai
Only you can listen to the elegy of a lonely heart)
Hey.. Tari deva sara na yo bhog kasha pai
Haravali waat disha andharalya dhaai
(Then why doesn't the suffering end, my Lord?
The path is lost, darkness engulfs all directions..)
Bavaaloon udhalato jeev maaya baapaa
Vanvaayo oori petla...
(Fear grips and ravages me, O father...
There is a forest-fire raging in my heart)
Khel Mandala, Khel Mandala...
khel mandala, Deva... Khel Mandala
(The game is set, O Lord, the game is set...)
Life never meanders the way you plan it to, it takes its own course. You hope for new a horizon, while a new abyss is being created for you. You hope to have a better beginning and and new end is being written for you. That's what nature is. We plan while it laughs.
Going by the current status of things, this fact is very evident. A game is set, the players are ready and now only time will tell you who wins and who loses it all. To begin with we the first player in the court: Tejawar! He is a man whose true facets remain hidden even you strip him of all his layers. He always mesmerizes me for the depth to which he can stoop! Outwardly, there can be no better example of a man who is all virtuous, but inside he is a serpent whose venom is fatal and is without a cure. The love that he radiates is not what you can call as a true one. It isn't! Its just a mere shadow of the former one. Poor Thakuraiin! She doesn't know that whatever her husband has for her is not the real deal but only an illusion of the same! That subtle vintage romance though was pretty but was hollow, indicative that Tejawar will always choose himself over his wife. He plays to win!!
Today one of the covers were blown showing how cunning and vile he has been along. He breathes hate and spits hate. His empire, his existence both rest on the very hate that he has created. Superficially it looks like a power clash between him and BSD but underneath all that bravado its Tejawar's ego that survives...no...thrives on this sanguinary output. He has carefully chosen to destroy innumerable lives, break hearts and homes. He uses the shadows, while he himself dwells in light. The flashbacks were enough to prove that the collateral losses that people have faced over the years were instigated by Tejawar. He's not the victim to this savage uprising but is the instigator. Men whose hands are clean while with filth in their minds should be feared. They lack conscious and are terribly crepuscular. They don't have a sanctum and hence they break other's. Tejawar is one such man! And he rightly should be feared. He set afire the bridal garment without keeping any strings attached, this only shows that when time comes he can replicate the same maybe with someone in those red drapes!!
The second player is of course the mighty Rudra. He is one such player whose goals are predefined and perfectly set. He knows what he wants and how to get what he wants. His every move is murderously accurate. He has a sharp mind and waiting that has the patience of a hunter. His steely eyes hides more than what someone can perceive or interpret. He belongs to no one and no one belongs to him!! That's what he is...a clean slate with no writing of any kind. He channels animal like energy with human sharp mind. That in itself is quite a dangerous combination. He thinks deep and implements even deep. Sher chhalta hai...aur Rudra vahi karega...
Deceit, is not something that you'd attach with a player whom you look on as good or pure, but that's exactly what Rudra is doing. He isn't your typical Mr. Darcy, rugged but genuinely good instead he's your Mr. V who is ready to take on the political uprising in a very rowdy and raunchy manner not to forget which will be equally brutal as well! another interesting aspect that also attest his ruthlessness is the fact that he is habituated to use and throw. He lets people in only when he wants to and let them out again when he wishes to. And that is scary for unto him you'll have to submit yourself completely, unconditionally and irrevocably! He'll set the rules while you'll have to follow them without as much of a thought. This is Rudra and this his philosophy. That use and throw and in the process let no one breach the walls of his heart!
The third player is the naive Paro! She doesn't know who to side with or who to trust. She's a lost one who is caught between this tumulus battle that she had never intended to be part of. A naive, timid thing that she is, she doesn't even know what the rules to this game are! She keeps switching herself to and from the quarters unlike the other two who have firmly placed their bets. She is worriedly scared and tries to hide the same all the while failing at it miserably. She'll be the first one to lose this blood bath. She can't fight like the other two and her restraints are made from heart where there is a place for all to dwell irrespective of the fact whether the dweller bring life or death to her form!!
She feels even for a butterfly( which by the way looks like a wallop of paint thrown from one corner of the room to another, and is a part of some heavy genetic experiment). That just shows what place her heart holds for all those around her and her life. Fifteen years back she had tried lighting up the world of a destitute boy without even thinking twice, how on earth will she survive this purgatory masquerade?? That's who Paro is...and unfortunately as of now she cannot change.
The fourth wheel is Laila who is an outsider but is stubbornly trying to change the rules of the game! She comes across as a bold wanton who doesn't give two hoots about the natural course. She does what she wants and does it with who she wants. She has set her eyes on the game like a cunning vixen and is not ready budge. She is lurking after the prize with a strange sense of compromise. Its either this way or that way for her. She come across as a fresh change that is not bound by those unwritten rules of the society. She is who she is and is not ready to change that to adopted heir to riches!!
She is everything that you don't usually associate a woman with and maybe that's what is alluring. She is demanding and not giving, she is punishing and not forgiving and she is venomous and not soothing. Laila seems to be inspired from Emily of Othello. She'll break all barriers and maybe surpass all the erotic boundaries just to make sure she wins hands down. That's player four for you!
The tale is all set to enter its narration proper and its here that a transition of sorts would begin. Paro has to die so that a new tougher soul can be brought to life. As of now she is misfit with her pure heart in this already defiled world. Just like Sati who was full of defects and who had to incinerate herself be born again as the perfect divinity Parvati...Paro too will have to leave behind her shell and moult into someone who fits in with the fad of the world.
Okay, here I go saying that I really liked Laila! She is the much needed catalyst and the change. I don't know I for once enjoyed her and Rudra getting cosy. She isn't bound by any rules and lets her sexuality run to the fore! She has a clear cut notion in her head and honestly this is what works for her. Also Rudra isn't your typical male lead. He knows his way around a woman albeit in his own way. He objectifies and no qualms about it. He is what he is and that is pretty cool!! I simply loved Ankita and Aashish!! They were fantastic in their scenes. It never did come across as vulgar or explicit. Also the execution of the entire sequence was kept to bare minimum with only a earthy flavored song running in the backdrop. Ankita will look stunning as a dominatrix. Even my dad applauded the scenes saying it was all subtle and praise worthy( now don't pop your eyes out...when I can watch Shakespeare in Love with my dad that had ahem about every 15 minutes...watching LaRud was nothing!!!😆)
Another mention that i have to make is of Sanaya and Tarun. These two are just perfect! I noticed a marked improvement in Sanaya's accent. She's now more at ease with what she has to deliver and Tarun is marvelous in the complexities that he has to elude!
P.S. In my native place there is a saying or rather a notion that a girl in her bridal attire sees but only her groom. I really love the makers who have traversed all depth to perfect the series. Paro too saw Rudra in her bridal avatar!! Now I'll let your mind wander...😉
