Another clarification...

It was mainly salima and hamida who played a major part in reconciliation between salim and akbar.
This is from akbarnama.

There is not A TRACE of RUQU's name there. Plz do not recreate history again, after searching internet.!!!!..

Again this does not means heera had no say in this conciliation. I ll say just read the chronicles to get it cleared yourself.

Thanx.

Thankkkss for the clarification 😃 i think some people love to create their own version of history as per their own satisfaction 😆

From some of the books on Jehangir that I have read, he had a bitter-sweet relation with his mom MUZ. This it seems to be from his own explanation, was due to the fact that she would side more with Akbar over him but it also seemed to me that there was the petulance of a son's jealousy towards his father for his mother's attention. But the fact that MUZ continued to get the same respect after Akbar's death speaks a lot about mother-son relation. Also pls remember it was Jehangir who built the MUZ mosque in Lahore and his mother's tomb close to Akbar's tomb (at a distance of 1 km)!!! Definitely Jehangir must have realised what Akbar and MUZ meant to each other!!!
As for upbringing, Salim was not a hard drinker like his brothers or like MH who died of the extremeties od drink. He was more of a creative genius who loved the arts and was like all artists very eccentric.

Salim's rebellion started around 1599 and all thru was low key. And frankly I would not blame him. Think of this here is the crown prince at the age of 30 chaffing at the bit to rule but father still going strong - Akbar was in the best of health all his life!!! - And to top it all he had to measure up to a Man, a ruler, a warrior, a strategist and an administrator like Akbar!!!

Akbar became ruler at the age of 13. What would have happened had Humayun lived longer I wonder. In a way perhaps it was a blessing for both Akbar and Salim that Salim was born when Akbar was 27. Imagine had he been born earlier!!! I would also say it was a blessing for both Akbar and Salim that Murad and Daniyal died even when Akbar lived ensuring Salim did not have to face all those saazishes from family that Akbar faced!!!

I would not be surprised that Akbar also may have understood this aspect as he was such a good reader of human psyche and perhaps that may have been the reason he forgave Salim so easily. Bechara Akbar perhaps could not even abdicate in favor of Salim knowing that as long as he was alive the ppl would not accept anyone else as the Emperor!!!

I knw Abhay. Infact whatever I have got info on MUZ in some detail has been mainly from books based on Jehangir's writings!!! And Jehangir was a brilliant artist which is a fact and that is a legacy which he got from his father Akbar who also was an artist!!!. Salim really was not all that bad warna we would not have the saying 'Jehangir ka nyaya' in India even today!!!

Salim was a spoilt child ! don't know why...whereas Jalal and Jodha both were nice human beings..I guess over pampering made him brat...after all he was born after many years...besides when there is a tiff b/w Jalal and Salim, Jodha used to take Jalal's side which used to upset Salim deeply.

Nice analysis
But wrt Salim, going by how he never killed his brothers/cousins children after becoming emperor it may have not mattered to him if his brothers lived as long as they would not attempt on his life for throne.
Take Khusrau's rebellion and attempt to overthrow Jehangir and a few attempted failed assasination attempts yet Jehangir forgave him and did not kill him. He definetly was cruel to make him blind but if not every few months he would have had a rebellion and the empire would be in chaos always for rest of the time. Here he may have learned from Humayun's case of being lenient to his brothers and the difficulty he and akbar faced early in life.
I am not talking that he had a bad relation with muz though some authors hint at that. I am just saying that its not mentioned much about their mother-son personal relations
Like that Babar's father died when he was 11, Humayun's when he was 22, Akbar when he was 13 so they all got to be kings at small age for a long time. Jehnagir was unwell with his drinking bouts and he had asthama too. May be he was scared his father may live long and he would never be emperor and be bypassed for the throne by either Khusrau/Khurram his father's favourite.
He was basically insecure because his relatives, nobels all were against him becoming emperor like Rahim, Man Singh etc. And add to that Abul Fazl who always gave suggestions to Akbar against Salim, it made him kill his father's advisor. Basically i think that happened because Salim had no communication left open to his father to go and explain his viewpoints. Akbar had too much coterie who were against Salim becoming emperor. And imagine from birth you are treated as crown prince and told one day you shall be next emperor and suddenly when you are 28-29 you find you are ignored and given signals others are better than you and you may not be next emperor. Any human would have become insecure like Jehangir. But to his credit he did not kill any nobel/relative who opposed his elevation.
