@atominis - I too hated visitors who didn't call ahead!! But I always felt compelled to be polite to them.
Then six months ago, I saw an episode of the hit american tv show "modern family" ... and in that, a character opened the door, saw some visitors who didn't call ahead standing there, and just said point blank to them "I'm sorry, I dont like unannounced visitors. Please call ahead first and make sure I'm free" and then he closed the door on their faces 🤣🤣

I loved it so much, that I have adopted this myself. And I find now that word has spread and I don't have unannounced visitors 😆😆👍🏼. I love plain speaking nowadays.

But this is India. Even though now people generally call before visiting someone, but at least in north India- the word (for guests) is "atithi" which literally means - jiske aane ki koi tithi na ho - translation may be one whose arrival is not known (no date of arrival).

@SPuja:
Thanks so much!! I didn't know the sanskrit meaning of athithi. That is so cool to know.

But as far as I am concerned, I have made up my mind, that even if they dont see tithi, that does not mean I am compelled to entertain them 😆😆😆.

it's not just that singhs came to KB suddenly but also it shows their selfishness of meeting anandi...they came their unannoced becoz they were sure anandi would be at home so it means they had no inention to meet shiv...how rude ! normallly maayka from village make sure they come to their daughter's sasural by telling them in advance and also they get to meet their damaad...singhs have become modern but even rude...they have no consideration for shiv at all
