yup the fiction which they are showing is most unexpected but in a way arjun coming for rukmini didnt change the story much bcoz arjun did not take rukmini to temple.she reached there by herself and neither did arjun fight ,as per the epic balram came there.

in original epic the scenes between krishna and arjun are seen most in the war and we have to wait so long to see there relationship...whatever is going on now between arjun and krishna is realy interesting and there fondness for each other has reached another level

Yeah, but they've made a mockery of the Krishna-Rukmini story, like much else. The original Krishna abduction of Rukmini was an act of heroism, where Krishna went as a warrior, and Rukmini wasn't a sappy lovesick princess as shown here. She worshiped Parvati pretty devotedly - wasn't hunting for Krishna in the temple. After doing her pujas and asking that only Krishna get to marry her, she stepped out of the temple, and at just that moment, Krishna arrived and picked her up & bolted. Sishupala noticed it and raised the alarm, and the entire army chased them, but Balarama intercepted them and successfully blocked all of them, except Rukmi, who Krishna fought & defeated.

Compare that w/ Krishna going as a cowherd and Arjun going as a woman, and you'll notice how much the story has degraded here.
