Epilogue

A Promise

The shrill sound of the door bell ringing coursed through the living room of the Khan mansion. Najma jumped off her bed excitedly, as she yelled out joyfully, "Ammi! Bhaijaan has come back!" She bounced along to the front door, as her ammi followed her, shaking her head fondly, at her daughter's innocence. Dilshaad stepped forward and unlatched the door lock, to be greeted by an overly elated Asad. She smiled at him, as Najma threw her arms around her bhaijaan, in a bear hug. She pulled away and grinned at him. Asad smiled at her, fondly, as Najma squealed, "I missed you so much bhaijaan!" "I missed you too, Tamatar.", he replied as he stroked her head. "I think the both of you are missing something, don't you think?", he asked, as a smile formed against his lips. "Missing what?", Najma asked, perplexed. "You mean that surprise you were talking about, earlier on the phone?", Dilshaad asked, curiosity taking the better part of her mind. Asad smiled even wider, showcasing his extraordinarily rare and radiant dimple. He stepped aside, revealing what was behind him, or more like, who was behind him. Dilshaad and Najma gasped, unable believe that they weren't actually dreaming. Dilshaad stuttered, "Z..Zoya?" Zoya smiled at them, as unshed tears formed in her eyes. She nodded her head, slowly. Dilshaad blinked, completely lost in a world of her own. Najma rubbed her eyes, just to make sure that she wasn't hallucinating Zoya standing in front of her. She squeezed her eyes shut and pinched herself. She opened her eyes and much to her surprise, Zoya still hadn't disappeared . "Are you real, Zoya?", she asked, her eyes wide. Zoya let out a soft chuckle, as she replied, smiling, "Yes, I'm very much real, Najma." Najma blinked a couple more times, before she pounced on Zoya and squeezed her into a bone crushing hug. She shrieked, "Oh my God! Zoya, you have no idea of how much I missed you! Why did you leave?!" She pulled away from Zoya and glared at her, pointedly. "How could you have just left us like that?! I know that bhaijaan hurt your feelings to a point that you can't explain, but you could have at least thought about me and ammi, right? Why the hell did you leave?!?!?!", she screamed at Zoya, all in one breath, as tears slid down her rosy cheeks. Zoya looked away and stared at her foot, unable to control her own tears. "I'm sorry.", she whispered, as soft sobs escaped her lips. Dilshaad stepped forward and caressed Zoya's cheeks, as her eyes watered. She wiped away Zoya's tears with both her thumbs. Zoya stared into her eyes, as Dilshaad gazed into her hers, affectionately. She pulled her into an embrace, unable to control herself any longer, as those wretched tears spilled out of her eyes. Zoya buried her head into her beloved phuppi's shoulder, squeezing her eyes shut, letting the feel sink in. Asad had been standing in the same spot ever since he had stepped aside. He smiled at the sight in front of him, becoming a little emotional himself. Najma turned her head away, crossly, wiping her tears away. Asad smiled at her, deciding to let her be, knowing very well that his sister could not possibly stay angry at someone, for more than five minutes. Zoya turned back to Najma, as she pulled away from Dilshaad. She stepped forward a little and called out in a small voice, "Najma?" Najma slowly looked up at her, still feigning anger. "Have I ever told you that you're horrible when it comes to acting?", Zoya asked, as a smile formed against her lips. "Huh?", Najma asked, flustered. "You really aren't angry with me, are you?" Najma smiled sheepishly, after trying really hard not to break the act. Zoya chuckled at her, as Najma pounced back on her, once again and engulfed her in another hug. "I missed you so much.", Najma whispered, as her voice cracked. Zoya smiled at her, as she replied, "I missed you more."

A year later:

Zoya rummaged through Asad's drawer, trying to find Asad's missing file. "Asad! I seriously can't search for any longer! Are you such a dimwi...", her voice trailed off as she caught sight of something. Her hand made its way automatically to the shiny little thing. She ran her fingers along the cold metal object, before going on to pick it up. It was an earring. An earring that she'd lost two years ago. It had been the very last memory of her mother that she'd had with her, never in her dreams could she forget it. "My earring.", she whispered, just about loud enough to catch Asad's attention. Asad froze, as Zoya's words rung into his ears. He turned to where Zoya was standing and slowly gulped. Zoya looked up at him, completely lost, as if in a trance. Asad stammered, as he looked around wildly, trying to come up with an excuse to cover himself up, "Woh actually-" "You told me that you didn't have it.", Zoya said, cutting him off. "Zoya...I...I don't how it landed up there. I...", Asad took a deep breath in and completed, "I've never seen it there before." "Liar.", came Zoya's reply, "You've had it all along and you didn't even bother telling me that you had it with you." Asad gulped again and slowly walked towards her. She clearly looked angry. Asad started to say, "Zoya, I'm really sorry, I didn't mean to-" "You knew how much this earring mattered to me, right? Then why?", Zoya asked, her voice wrecked with threatening sobs. Her eyes brimmed with tears, as she looked into Asad's guilty ones. Asad hands went out to caress her flushed cheeks. Zoya cringed a little, still looking at him, waiting for an explanation. Asad inhaled a deep breath, closing his eyes in the process. He opened them again and began to explain, how the earring had gotten there. He went on to tell her how he'd tried to give it back to her, but had never got the right opportunity, or time, for it. "As the days passed, I didn't know why, but I didn't want to give it back to you. I stopped trying to. I wanted it to stay with me. I didn't even know that I loved you, back then, but even then, it made me feel closer to you. I had thought about telling you several times, but something stopped me. Don't ask me what, because I don't know what it is, myself.", he finished with a small smile. Zoya smiled back at him, biting her lips, trying to stop herself from crying. She flung her arms around Asad's neck and threw herself on him, pulling him close to her. She buried her face into his shoulder and whispered, "You could have just told me." "I'm sorry.", Asad replied, wrapping an arm around her waist with the other one stroking her head. They pulled away after what seemed an eternity. They smiled at each other, lovingly. Zoya wrapped one of her arms around his neck, while twirling his tie between two of her fingers. She sighed as she confided, "You know, I think I prefer Mr. Akdu Ahmed Khan to Mr. Cheesy Ahmed Khan." Asad chuckled and leant forward to drop a kiss on her forehead. "Now, don't you dare lose that earring." Asad looked surprised, he curiously asked, "So I can keep it?" "Yup, it has been with you for so long, so I think you should just keep it with you." Asad smiled at her, he asked, "Are you sure?" "Yeah, hundred percent."

"So you really don't remember what day it is, today?", Zoya screamed at him, flinging a pillow at him in the process. Asad feigned irritation, as he let out a low growl. He rubbed his creased forehead as he groaned, "Zoya, seriously, what is wrong with you? You've been torturing me since morning, at least, you can bother explaining why." Asad folded his arms against his chest and smirked at her, challenging her, openly. Zoya glowered at him, clenching her fists into a tight ball. "So you really really forgot what day it is today?", Zoya asked, desperation taking the better part of her. Asad stared at her, quizzically, as he nodded at her, unsurely. Zoya stomped her foot and yelled at him, "Urghh! I just hate you!" "I love you, too, sweety.", Asad replied casually, smirking at her. She glowered at him and marched out of the room, leaving a highly amused Asad behind. Asad shook his head as he muttered to himself, "Stupid girl."

Zoya stomped into her ex-bedroom and threw herself on to the bed. She cried to herself, "How can someone forget his own wedding anniversary?!" She sat up straight and scowled at no one in particular. "Why did I even fall in love with that gold fish of a man?", she asked herself, completely vexed. She sighed to herself, as she got off the bed. "Well, if he really doesn't remember, than I'm gonna tell him!", Zoya said, determinedly. Just as she was about to walk out of the room, she caught sight of something else, lying on her dressing table. Her eyebrows scrunched up in confusion. She made her way towards her dressing table, fiddling with her fingers, hoping that it was, what she was thinking. Her hands approached the neatly wrapped box. She picked it up and carefully, removed the wrapping; she hated tearing wrapping. She pulled the lid off the box and set it aside. Her jaw dropped. She found a note peeking out of one of the folds. She pulled it out and smiled at it, as she shook her head, fondly. It read,

"Firstly, let me tell you, irritating you all morning was extremely fun. Now stop glaring holes into the paper."

Zoya rolled her eyes and stopped glaring, she continued reading Meet me in the backyard at 7.30 in the evening, wearing the saree, that I've given you. I'll be waiting."

Zoya smiled and put the note away. She pulled the saree out of the box and gazed at it. It was a red saree, with an intricate pattern of sequins that adorned it. The blouse was black, complimenting the black border of the saree. The sleeves were transparent, the sleeves had a pattern of zardozi sequins on it. "Shameless.", she mumbled, shaking her head, blushing a little, as she realized that it was a backless blouse. She looked at the wall clock, it was 6.30. She groaned, "Damn!"

Asad paced around the backyard making sure that all the preparations were intact. He looked at his watch, it was 7.25. She would be there any minute. His eyes then fell upon a figure in the distance. It was Zoya. He smiled and hid behind the tent, not wanting to be spotted by her, just yet. She'd been fixing her saree, so she hadn't seen him standing there. She diverted her eyes from her saree and looked up. Her eyes scanned the area, trying to find Asad. Her eyebrows knitted together, she scanned the area once again, failing once again, in spotting him. She looked around and smiled. Everything was perfect. The lights, the white tent, the candle light dinner table, basically the whole set up. Her eyebrows knitted together, as she failed to to see Asad, once again. She turned around to leave, but just then, she felt a pair of arms wrap themselves around her stomach, from the back. Her breath hitched, she smiled and placed her hands on top of his. "Asad...", she whispered. "Hmm.", he replied. She forced herself free, from his grip and turned around. She wrapped her arms arms around his neck and squealed, "I love you, Asad!" Asad smiled and placed his hands on her waist, sending a chill through her spine as his hand made contact with the bare side of her waist. "I love you, too, Zoya." "Mr. Khan, you're so sweet! I love this!", she shrieked, looking around the backyard, dreamily. Asad shrugged his shoulders. "I still can't believe how far, you've gone away, from Akdu Ahmed Khan." Asad smiled at her, as she rambled on, "When I first came here, I used to hate you SO much!" She chuckled, softly, to herself, as she reminisced those days. She continued, "God knows when and how I fell in love with such a boring and unromantic person, like you! You know, you're basically the exact opposite of the girl you wanted in your life and you're the exact opposite of the guy, I wanted in mine. How did I ever fall in love with a guy, like you?" Asad glared at her, he retorted, "Yeah, I'm sure all this stuff looks very unromantic and I'm an extremely boring person to live with. Now, excuse me, I'm gonna just go back inside." He turned around to leave, but Zoya caught hold of his wrist. Unable to turn him back around with her own strength, she went and stood in front of him, instead. He glowered at her. She slipped her arms underneath his and held onto his shoulders, from the back and laid her head against his chest. "I'm sorry, Asad. You know I would never hurt your feelings on purpose.", she apologized. Asad snapped back, "Well, that's the problem! You say something without thinking and then you apologise and then I have to forgive you. You never think before you say anything! Do you even care about my feelings! How many more times am I supposed to tolerate you? You're driving me insane! Do I look like an idiot to you? I think, I sure do look like one, because you clearly think that you can everything and anything that you want, to me! Sometimes, you get on my nerves, so much, but I still keep shut, because you'll start you're sob drama and obviously, ammi and Najma would be on your side. I think you're making me regret what I did a year back. I think we would have both been good, if we'd just left it at that." Tears were streaming down her cheeks, she flinched, at his harsh words. Did he really mean that? "I'm really sorry for hurting you, Asad. I'm sorry for everything I did." There, their first anniversary had been ruined. She quickly wiped her tears away and turned on her heels, to leave. She felt a tug at pallu of her saree, as she stepped forward. She turned around to see where it had got stuck. She knew more than well, that it couldn't be Asad. It had got stuck in a metal swirl pattern on the side of the table. She pulled it off and turned back around to leave, but she felt another tug at her pallu. She turned back around, frustratedly, only to find the cloth stuffed in Asad's hand. She looked away and gently pulled it, trying to get him to go of it. Before she could try any further, he pulled her towards him in one swift tug, making her stumble towards him, her back landing roughly on his front. He wrapped his arms around her and nuzzled his face into her shoulder. Zoya cringed, as he kissed her shoulder. "Let me go, Asad. ", she said. "Why should I? ", he asked. "Stop behaving like a child. Let me go.", she said. Asad chose to ignore her, he feathered kisses on her shoulder, letting his lips linger onto her skin. He moved the hair, away from her neck, revealing her smooth, white skin, beneath it. He pushed it aside, to let hang over her left shoulder. His lips placed themselves in the nape of her neck, kissing her there. He trailed kisses up her neck, until he could reach no further. He turned her back around, so that she faced him. He wrapped an arm around her waist, while the other went out to caress her tear stained cheeks. He leant forward, parting his lips, slightly, his head tilted. Just as he was about to close in the distance between them, he heard her whisper, her voice cracking, "Please, don't toy with my feelings." Asad sighed as he rested his forehead against hers. He tucked a stray strand of her hair behind her ear. "I really need to change your opinion, that I'm unromantic and when I put in some effort, you don't let me. What am I supposed to do?", he asked, smiling at hers. Her eyes met with his eyes for a second, before she averted her gaze. "Please. Let me go.", she said, her face crumpled up like paper. "Sorry, baby.", Asad whispered, "I didn't mean it. You know how stupid I can be, right? I'm the one who speaks without thinking, not you. I'm really sorry, Zoya. I didn't mean any of it, I promise. It's just...I got a little upset, since I'd taken up so much time in doing all this. I'm so sorry, Zoya." Zoya looked up, at Asad, who was looking into hers, guiltily. "Do you really regret, being with me?", she asked, her voice small. Asad exasperated, "Of course, not! Why would I regret being with you? Zoya, you know I love you more than anyone on this planet. Don't be silly. I love you and I'm sure you know that."

Zoya wrapped her arms around his neck and buried her face into his chest and cried. "I'm sorry for saying that, Asad. I didn't mean to hurt you.", she said. Asad smiled and stroked her head, comfortingly. He hushed her, "Shh. You didn't say anything wrong, I'm rhe one who got upset for such a stupid, little thing. You calm down, now." She nodded against his chest and clung onto him for a few more minutes, while he held her, quite willingly. She pulled away, after a while. "Asad?" "Yes?" "I'm hungry.", she stated. He chuckled, softly. He took her hand in is and walked towards the table, which was just a few steps away from them. He pulled the chair out, for her and gestured her to sit down. She smiled and sat down. Suddenly, she felt the world do a 360 degree spin, around her. She clutched onto the edge of the table, the world finally stopped spinning. She took a deep breath in. What was that. Asad hadn't noticed it, he frowned at her, as he sat down, noticing the sweat drops, forming on her forehead. "Are you, ok?", he asked. Zoya forced a smile onto her face and nodded. Asad smiled back at her, he asked, "So, shall we start then?" "Of course!", she replied. Asad watched Zoya, as he pulled off the dish lid, from the plate. "Pizza. Your favorite, with corn. I made it, myself.", he stated, proudly. Zoya's smile faded, as her eyes fixed on the pizza. "Zoya?", Asad asked, perplexed with her reaction. Zoya hastily plastered a smile onto her face, despite the fact that her stomach was churning. "Asad, I don't really feel hungry, anymore.", she said, looking away. Asad raised an eyebrow, "I'm sure, the pizza isn't that bad. Try it, first. Anyways, I have done it before, remember? And you liked it, too." Zoya nodded, she opened her mouth to speak, but Asad cut her off, "Taste it, first. I spent hours, making it. " Zoya stared down, at the slice of pizza he'd laid down, on the plate, in front of her. "Asad, please. I really don't feel like it.", Zoya tried to persuade. Asad gritted his teeth, he growled, "Are you doing all of this, just to make me angry?" Zoya blinked at him, she snapped, "What?! Are you mad, Asad?! I just don't feel like eating pizza." "Even a mad person, wouldn't believe such a lame excuse. You didn't even try it.", he replied, scowling at her. "Asad, please. I just don't want to eat pizza, today.", Zoya protested. Asad retorted, "Oh really? Yeah, that explains why you love eating pizza on every other day, apart from our anniversary." Zoya tried to argue, despite the fact that her head has started to spin, again, she said, "Asad! Please, listen! I don't feel go-" "You don't care about, what I feel! You're just making this a rerun! You want me to come and console you, after you start crying. I am not your slave and I'm sure you know that! Why did I ever even fall in love with you? Maybe not now, but I'm sure I'm gonna grow tired of all this, some day." Tears resurfaced Zoya's eyes, she asked, "All this, as in?" "This relationship, this nikaah and you.", he hissed at her. A few salty drops, slid down her pale cheeks. "Thank you, for letting me know. This is the best anniversary gift, you could have given me.", she stated, bending her head a little, making her fall to the sides, of her face, hiding her tears. "There you go. Drama. That's the best you can do?", Asad asked, chuckling, sarcastically. Zoya bit her lips, desperately trying to keep herself in control. Her voice cracked, as she replied, "Maybe, that's what it seems to you. Anyways, I know when I'm not wanted." She turned around and started walking away. Asad sighed, exaggeratively, as he watched her retreat. He muttered, under his breath, "I'm not gonna go console her, no matter what, this time."

Zoya grabbed hold of the backyard railing, as she felt her head spin, once again. It was much worse than the first time. Her knees felt like rubber. She tried massaging her forehead to ease the spin, but nothing seemed to work. Her kness wobbled, precariously and before she knew it, the world turned black, her eyes closed as her body fell, limply, on the grassy floor. She'd fainted.

Asad's eyes turned towards Zoya. His eyes grew wide, with fear. He jumped off his chair and ran towards her, as he body fell to the floor. He pulled her up, tapping her cheeks, lightly, trying to get her to get up. "Zoya! I'm really sorry! I didn't mean to do this to you! Please, Zoya! Get up!", he pleaded, to her, yet, he failed to gain a response. He slid one arm, below her knees and hauled her up, into his amrs. He rushed into the house, calling out to his mother, "Ammi!" Dilshaad yelled back, from her room, "I'm coming!" Tears made their way to his eyes, as his eyes fell upon the motionless figure, lying limp, in his arms. He cradled her head, in his chest. "Ya Allah!", he heard, Dilshaad's panicked screamed. He watched her, as she rushed down the staircase. She knelt down and patted Zoya's cheek, frantically. "She fainted, ammi.", Asad said. Dilshaad nodded and went off to the kitchen. She grabbed a glass of water and hurried back to the living room. She sprinkled some water on Zoya's face, but she refused to get up. "I think we should call the doctor.", Dilshaad said, worried. Asad nodded. "Take her to your room amd get her to lie down. I'll call the doctor.", Dilshaad said. Asad nodded obediently and stood up, Zoya in his arms. He walked off to his room and lay her down in the bed, pulling the covers over her. He sat down beside her and pushed a strand of hair away from her face. He clasped one of her between his and held it to his heart. "Zoya, I'm really sorry. I didn't mean to do this to you. I didn't know that this would happen. I'm so sorry, Zoya. I shouldn't have said all that. I'm such an idiot. Please, just get up! I promise, I won't ever hurt you again!", he pleaded, his voice cracking with every syllable. A tear escaped his eye, as Zoya lay as motionless as ever. Soft sobs escaped his lips, his hands trembling in fear, fear of having harmed her. "I'm so sorry. I love you.", he whispered. He kissed her hand and stroked it gently with his thumb. A few minutes passed away, like that, before he heard a knock on the door. He let go of Zoya's hand and placed it by her side. He got up and made his way towards the door, he opened it and found Dilshaad standing there, with the doctor behind her. Asad greeted, "Good evening, doctor." She smiled at him, "Good evening. So Mrs. Khan, told me that your wife had passed out? Can I take a look?" Asad nodded and replied, "Of course. She's inside.", he pulled the door further apart, making way for her to come in. He pulled out the chair from the table and placed it beside the bed, for the doctor to sit down. She sat down and started checking Zoya. The doctor smiled after a few minutes. She pulled out an injection out of her bag and injected Zoya.Asad frowned, he asked, "Is she ok, doctor?" "She's completely fine.", she replied, smiling at him. "What happened to her?", Asad asked. The doctor's smile widened. She replied, "Her BP went a little low, there's more, but I think we should till she wakes up. I've given her an injection, she should be up in a few minutes." Asad swallowed a lump in his throat, he throat was constricted, the doctor had said that they had to wait till she gets up and that's what scared him the most. "What happened to her? ", he asked, his voice stricken with fear. The doctor smiled, she comforted, "I understand that you're worried about your wife, but you have to trust me, your wife is completely fine." Asad fought the urge to yell at the doctor, right then. He gritted his teeth and chose to watch Zoya instead, waiting for her to get up. Meanwhile, the doctor jotted down a few medicines on a piece of paper. Asad noticed Zoya stir. He called out her name, "Zoya!" He rushed to the other side of the bed and sat down. He patted her cheeks, gently. "Zoya?", he called softly. Her eyes slowly fluttered, open, "Asad?"

Her vision was blurred. She was confused by her surrounding. Her vision slowly cleared. She called out, "Asad?" She noticed a few tears sliding down his cheeks, he whispered, "I'm so sorry, Zoya." Her eyebrows furrowed. The evening's events came rushing back to his mind, she found herself glaring at him, in a matter of seconds. She looked away, her eyes resurfacing with fresh tears. She felt his hand slip into hers, she tried shrugging it away, but ended up having his grip around her hand tighten. She noticed the doctor and Dilshaad, watching them quizzically and decided to stay quiet. Just then, Najma bounded into the room. She was wearing her usual chirpy grin. Her smile faded as she took in the scenario. "What happened to, Zoya?", she asked, scrambling to Asad's side, beside Zoya. The doctor shook her head, amusedly. "Ok, so I think I should break the news, now.", the doctor said. Four pairs of eyes turned towards her. "What news?", Zoya asked, confused. The doctor beamed at her, she started, "Well..." She turned towards Asad and Zoya, "Congratulations! You are going to be parents!", she declared. Asad blinked, while Zoya's jaw, fell down to her feet. Najma was the first one to recover, she squealed, "Congratulations bhaijaan and Zoya!" She gave Asad a side hug. Asad was too confused to respond. Dilshaad ran over to them, she pulled Asad's cheeks, while he groaned. She ruffled his hair and said, "Congratulations Asad!" Shs turned her attention to Zoya, who was still looking very flustered. She leaned forward and planted a kiss on her forehead, caressing her face, gently. "Congratulations, beta. You have no idea of how happy you both have made me, today." The doctor cleared her throat. She walked over to Asad's side and handed him the prescription. "All these are meant to be had after food, thrice a day.", she told him. Asad nodded and smiled. She handed him a card, he took it and looked up at her, questioningly. She cleared, "This is the visiting card for Dr. Smita. She is one of the best gynecologists in Bhopal. She will be able to guide you, through the rest of your wife's pregnancy." "Thank you, doctor.", Asad said. The doctor smiled, "My pleasure. Take good care of your wife, Mr. Khan." "I will.", he said, determinedly. The doctor smiled, "Good. And you dear." She turned towards Zoya, she continued, "Take good care of yourself and eat well." Zoya beamed at her and nodded. The doctor smiled, back at her. She announced, "Well, I should be going now." Dilshaad smiled, "Thank you, doctor. I'll show you out." Dilshaad gestured Najma to come along, to give couple some private space. Najma complied, happily and bounced off, towards. Dilshaad ahut the door behind her, leaving both Asad and Zoya, to themselves.

Zoya straightened herself up, on the bed. Asad helped her up, as she leaned against the headboard. Asad sat down beside her. He rested his forehead against hers and asked, "Are you still angry with me?" Tears threatened to eacape her eyes, she stated, "You were really mean." Asad sighed, he replied, "I know. I'm such an idiot, I say stupid things without thinking." "You hurt my feelings. Do I really frustrate you so much?" Asad caressed her cheeks, as he wiped her tears away, with his thumbs. "You're mad, Zoya.", he said. "What?!", Zoya shrieked. "You know I love the fact that you annoy so much.", he teased, trying to lighten the mood. "Liar!", she snapped, "You hate me!" Asad rolled his eyes. Zoya started, "See, you don't even-" Asad had sealed his lips on hers. She pounded on his chest, she tried screaming, but her voice came out muffled, but Asad refused to budge. Zoya slowly gave in, after several attempts to push him away. Asad wound his arms arms around her waist. They pulled after a few minutes. Asad smiled at her, he kissed her forehead. "Thank you.", he whispered. Zoya looked up at him. "For what?", Zoya asked. "For this.", Asad replied, placing his hand on her stomach. Zoya smiled at him, teary eyed. "Do you really hate me?", she asked. "Do I need to kiss you again, to shut you up?", he asked, teasingly. "No, answer me. Do you hate me?", she asked. "Of course not! Why would I hate you? You know that I can never live without you. I love you and I know, you know that." Zoya looked into his eyes, which were gazing back into hers, affectionately. "Promise?", she asked. Asad chuckled, as he replied, "Promise. How can I possibly hate my beautiful wife?" Zoya smiled and wrapped her arms around his chest, leaning against him, engulfing him in a hug. Asad stroked her head, with one hand, while the other caressed her back. "I still can't believe that we're going to be parents.", she said. Asad smiled, he said, "I want my child to be like you, always smiling...but I would really appreciate it if he, or she, came without the musibat tag, attached to them. Zoya pulled away and scowled at him, she exasperatedly yelled, "Allah miyan! What's wrong with you, Asad? Firstly, the child is mine, too. Secondly, I don't have a musibat tag attached to me, ok?" Asad smiled at her, shaking his head, amusedly, as ahe whacked him on his arm. "That felt like a feather.", he teased. "Asad, don't make me angry! I know karate!", she boasted, making somd weird karate gestures, with her hand. Asad feigner horror, he whispered, "Oh no! What do I do now? I'm stuck with karate master. She's gonna whack me with her purse!" "You're so mean!", Zoya complained. Asad chuckled. "I love you, Asad!", she announced."I know that.", he replied. Zoya whacked his arm, she said, "You're supposed to say, I love you, too! You're so unromantic!" Asad laughed, "Ok, sorry! I love you, too!" Asad pulled her back into his chest and cuddled her. Zoya nuzzled into her chest. "Asad, I need you to promise me, on something.", she whispered. Asad said, "If you're gonna tell me to promise you that I'll allow you to eat pizza and coke, whenever you want, then I'm sorry, sweety. You're not going anywhere near that junk, in these nine months." "Not that. Something else.", she said. Asad frowned, he asked, "Ok, then what is it? " "Promise me that you'll never leave me and our child. Promise me that you'll always be with us, no matter what." Asad pulled away from Zoya, he held her by her ahoulders and asked, "What happened to you?" "Please. For me.", Zoya said. Asad looked at Zoya, she looked scared. He understood her fear. She was scared that he would leave her and the child, just like her abbu had done to her. He caressed her cheeks, she was still looking into his eyes, fearfully, waiting for his word. Asad whispered, "I will stay with you and our child forever. I will never leave you, no matter what. I promise."

Where this story ends, it's a new beginning for them. They'd been through happiness and sadness, thick and thin, cold and warmth, but together. Through months of painful despair, they had finally found their heart. They were together and that's what matters the most. They were tied for eternity.
