10 Things We Learnt From The Hrithik - Suzanne Divorce

Unlike what they show on the big screen, not every love story ends with the happy couple sailing off into the sunset.
Sometimes life can throw you a curveball, and it is in moments like these that you can look up to Bollywood superstar Hrithik Roshan and his spouse Suzanne for inspiration. While the news of their separation is being devoured as tabloid fodder, their tale has taught us some lessons worth noting:
#1. Not every love story has a happy ending.
What matters is having the strength to confront the issues and admit that things aren't working out.
#2. Celebrities still endorse marriage.
Regardless of what went down behind closed doors, Hrithik's first statement after going public about the split reaffirmed his belief in marriage: "I do not wish this news to disempower my fans and the people about the institution of marriage in any way. I am a firm believer in this institution and respect and honour it at the highest level." Why he needed to do this is beyond us, maybe we need to accept that marriage isn't for everyone.
#3. Divorce is still looked down upon by our society.
We may be living in the 21st century, but given the censorious reactions that their decision to separate drew, we might as well have time-travelled five centuries back.
#4. Not all celebrity divorces involve mud-slinging.
Hrithik & Suzanne have handled their separation with nothing but the utmost dignity, without any false allegations being leveled - Quite unlike their Hollywood counterparts. Yes, Charlie Sheen, we are looking right at you.
#5. We, as a society, are shamelessly voyeuristic.
Giving the estranged couple some privacy and support ranks far below finding out every last detail of what conspired between them on our list of priorities.
#6. A divorce need not signal the end of the world.
Within a few days of their separation going to the press, Suzanne was out in public, cool and collected. Takes more than the news of an impeding media blitz to keep this lady inside, shut off from the world.
#7. Expecting to be left alone is, however, a far-off dream.
It will however be a long, long time before things go back to normal for the duo. All they have to look forward to for the next two months now is being scrutinized and having every minute movement tracked, analysed and judged.
#8. We have not yet outgrown the blame game.
Did Barbara Mori magically reach out in time and cause the split, in spite of the fact that it has been a good three years since she worked with Hrithik on Kites? Did the happily married Arjun Rampal cause dissent between the two? The need of the hour is, of course, to assign blame and decide who needs to be hung, stoned and quartered.
#9. Having a supportive circle of family and friends is what counts the most.
In the ten odd days since the duo announced their split, there haven't been any recriminations being thrown from either side. In fact, Suzanne's father Sanjay Khan has gone on record that he respects their decision, rather than impassioned speeches about how his daughter was wronged.
#10. Children need not be dragged through a protracted custody battle.
Even after separating, Hrithik & Suzanne remain united in their quest for providing what stability they can to their two children. Unlike a certain Pamela Anderson that we can think of.
