Former lover Akshay Kumar steps forward to defend Shilpa's izzat, set to sue UK tabloid for a kiss-and-tell saga about their relationship
Shilpa Shetty has an unusual knight-in-shining armour: former suitor Akshay Kumar who had some years ago dumped her unceremoniously to marry Twinkle Khanna, is set to sue UK tabloid News of the World for their tell-all expose on the Akshay-Shilpa affair.

In a full-page story headlined "I was first to bed Shilpa," the News of the World which is referred to as 'Screws of the World' for their often scurrilous reportage, quotes Akshay telling a friend lurid details of his sexual escapades with Shilpa.
The paper quotes 'the friend' as saying: "Shilpa was a very innocent girl when they met..." She was a lady, Akshay reportedly told the friend, and made him wait "before she would let me sleep with her." Soon after however, either stunned by his prowess or by her own sexuality, it seems Shilpa refused to let Akshay alone. "Her prim and proper nature soon disappeared in the heat of the moment. She sounded pretty crazy when it came to sex," quotes the newspaper. "I think she thought that she was going to marry him and she would never have slept with a man if she thought he wasn't serious."
The paper then goes on to detail how the lovers would carefully plan their trysts to avoid Shilpa's parents who had set a 2 am deadline for her to be back home every day. "Even when mum and dad give me permission to go out on dates, I must always go with a male chaperone and my sister and be home before 2 am," the paper quotes Shilpa as saying. "I'll never be allowed to go into my bedroom to be alone with a man."
Incensed by the kiss-and-tell saga, Akshay Kumar has decided to sue the tabloid. "I will never talk about a lady in those terms, this is totally baseless, I've never spoken to the said newspaper and I will seek legal recourse," Akshay told Mumbai Mirror. His UK representative Teji Singh said that the paper had also taken Akshay's quotes to a UK magazine and twisted them out of context.
When contacted, Shilpa Shetty who is at present in Tirupati on a pilgrimage, told us that she would prefer to keep a dignified silence. "I know that Akshay would never speak like that and and these things are best laughed off," she said.
