Karan Johar has played an important part in your life and career. Let's talk about him? Karan saw the potential in me more than my parents. As a person, I thought he would be really snooty, but he was very regular. He is funny and I also find him awkward and shy at times. I think he makes those jokes to make people feel he is very talkative. He is the closest person I have in Mumbai. I am also very close to Hiroo aunty. He gives me a great deal of confidence and that extra pump and push. He is quite honest with me and tells me about areas like dancing that I need to work on. He likes the fact that I am honest and have no pretence. We have that simple Punjabi boy connection, where he tells me his father too had the same habits as me, like I love mithai and I'm a foodie. He is very positive about my future and believes in me more than I do. Among his students, he was most protective about me as I have nobody to guide me unlike Alia and Varun, who are from film families. If I were in the merchant navy I would be what Varun is in the film industry.
What do you like about Karan? I admire how he handles his success and how he can deal with everyone, without carrying the baggage of the work he does. I think he does not pull that Karan Johar card anywhere and treats everyone equally. I don't think he has an ego and that, at times, is a disadvantage as people take him for a ride. He will help people with dates and other non-film related issues. I think he says yes to everything and, at times, we have seen Dharma or him not getting that help back when they need it. He is too nice and does not know how to say no.
Talk about your huge female fan following... This Karva Chauth, there were some girls who came to the Dharma office (for some reason they assumed that we will be hanging there) as they had come with Sid written on their hands with mehendi. Though I find it very sweet, I am very shy.
When did you have your first affair? The first serious affair I had was in Class XI, but when I became a model and she had to study somewhere else, the long distance thing did not work out, as she became possessive. During the three years that she was my girlfriend, I was only dating her. I was not aware but was pretty much loyal.
You were rumoured to be dating a firangi. Is that true? While doing SOTY, I dated one South African girl. I kept getting teased, as I was dating a non-Indian. But now I am single. And I guess, everybody who is single is looking out.
Which actresses do you find attractive? Katrina is very hot. Deepika and Alia are very attractive.
Were you attracted to Alia during SOTY? Yes, but the problem was that I first met her when she had walked into the Dharma office in her school uniform with her mother and she was just 17. I was 25 and asked Karan, 'Is this the girl you are considering?' She is damn funny and is very entertaining. Alia has that airplane mode, where she gets network and does not get network at times. She goes into her own world and is very comfortable with emotion. She is all there and has a great future. She has become even better looking now. There is far more to Alia than SOTY and she is very cute. She is a star. Just one compliment is all it takes to make her happy.
