This post is on certain things I've observed and endured in this forum for a long time and finally decided to speak.
When I joined IF after months of silent stalking, I thought I could take part in the discussions here. Sadly it turns out I cannot because I don't belong to the majority. I have read the rules of this forum multiple times and nowhere is it written that if you're recognised as a part of XYZ's fandom you cannot post on ABC unless one falls under the KR/TR rule.
There are many D3 fans who quit watching the show for various reasons or don't follow the show regularly. Does that mean he/she cannot comment on the show or the characters? There is constant policing saying you cannot comment as you haven't followed the show for 21 months, 12 months, six months? Who decides who can comment and who cannot?
Another thing is if you are a fan of old-Sharon you cannot comment on new-Sharon unless you have something nice to say! If you do so, you'll be constantly made a target of personal attack. The actor has changed, Sharon is still the same. Why can't old-Sharon fans, KR fans, TR fans comment on Sharon? After all, everyone is D3 viewer. And nobody is a certified Sharon/SwaRon fan here. I've faced accusations like "you don't understand Sharon's character because you are XYZ's fan." Am I obliged to prove to everybody else how much I know or understand Sharon every time I comment on her?
There is absolutely no space for constructive criticism here. And it wasn't like this earlier. I have read the older posts and how I wish one could make such posts/comments again without fearing being attacked on a personal level. Anything remotely concerning a favourite character, and all hell will break loose. Defending one's favourite characters/actors can be done in less violent way. There need not be this paranoia induced pandemonium all the time.
Also criticism is not against the rules, bashing is. But not every criticism post is bashing. Criticism is healthy and that is the purpose of a forum. It takes nothing away from the glory or popularity of one's favourites.

On a lighter note, this forum reminds me of the last year of Communist rule in Bengal. 😆 Any criticism was hitherto deemed as disloyalty and nipped in the bud by a paranoid ruling party.

-sincerely
a disillusioned member

PS: This post is strictly my personal opinion and based on my experiences and not made to attack any fandom or individual. It is not a criticism post, merely an evaluation.

EDIT : More than any fandom, I feel the major reason behind any kind of fight is the lack of respect for each other, which is an important requirement in a place like an interactive forum and the second is the lack of maturity and to quote my friend Oin (austen4ever): "too much of emotion and too little sense". And all the fandoms must strive to compensate for this loss of sense. When any member is being bashed by another, the immediate reaction is to join the bashing. Instead why don't we stop for a moment and think and try to understand the other's perspective. A collective majority is not always right. This is the same kind of mentality that fuels communal riots.

And here's hoping this added note will remove all doubts regarding this being an indirect bashing post.

Thanks
Rini

Well that's some no nonsense attitude in there.
Anyways while I do agree with some points such as people should be allowed to make comments about other fandom services irrespective of the one they belong to , the concept of bashing has been drastically altered in this forum. There have been rifts between every fandom and each time it has taken a turn for the ugly. People have become more and more sensitive about their favourites and I have seen this change in myself as well. What may seem like constructive criticism to one individual may not be taken lightly by another, merely because he/she has seen such topics lead to further disharmony in the forum.
Though constructive criticism should be encouraged we cannot restart it all of a sudden and baby steps need to be taken. Moreover I think the post that encouraged you to post this topic intentionally or unintentionally became a comparison post and both the tanha and the vrushan fandom suffered for this.
What you aim to achieve through this post seems idealistic today and the need if the hour is to not deviate from the topics and move onto personal comments as well as not degrading or reprimanding one actor to promote another.

I would like to add only one thing- I have witnessed this ever since I joined and it's not one single post that caused me to write all this. While today's post may have acted as a catalyst, there have been ample instances of personal attacks on me and other members for no reason. And I have never even criticised any actor- merely characters. Even today I maintained that I don't blame the actor, but the script.

I have never said that you are wrong. I too have faced personal attacks. Even though I love both kriyaansh and swaron, I am and will forever be a bigger fan of kriyaansh, so trust me when I tell you I felt horrible inside when a swaron fan told me that I was fake for defending Kunwar or shakti when I claimed that I liked swaron too which is what led me to remove my swaron siggy as well, however the fact remains that things here are fragile and even though what you wish to do might actually be for the betterment of the forum, it is a little late in the day to create posts like these because it will just lead to misinterpretations again and you will be the one who might end up getting bashed. All I'm saying is that baby steps need to be taken. Believe you me that someone will take this offensively. People have become less tolerant and more brash and somewhere we are all responsible for that.
I sincerely hope that people take your post in a positive sense but the chances don't seem too bright

Yes. 😊 I'm just trying to pave way for those baby steps.. dunno if it'll happen.. 😕 and I didn't misunderstand you. I was just clarifying. And trust me I've faced bashing and closing of topics too. 😆 Anyway, I don't give a tiny rat's ass about cyberspace bashing, else I wouldn't have written all this. I have a handful of friends here and they know me for what I'm. And that'll do for me. And even I think this post won't be taken in the right spirit, largely, but I had to write it- give it all away you know.. 😊

And I can empathise- I felt so mad and frustrated every time I was told how I don't understand Sharon. How can I not understand SRP- she is an inspiration to me and I admire and adore her more than any fictional character on TV or cinema. 😭

Exactly before I used to comment on Swaron and no one would argue with me this was when there were 2 fandoms and then after this 3rd fandoom all this started happening and fans are bashing characters there are people saying I like vrushan wala Swaron and some people saying I like tanha wala Swaron ( I said this lol so there was no confusing :D) but its not like I cannot like both Swaron. I like both I prefer tanha though that doesn't mean I can't comment on vrushan or like them does it. This forum has changed so much since I took the break of leaving IF for studies.

I actually consciously stay away from posting things and stating my opinions on new/old etc etc... Even though their are genuine doubts in my mind. Or even when I find something disconcerting or OOC for some character, just because I dont want to incur the wrath.
Any whooo, loved the opinion you stated. I'll just go out and stay that people need to let a lil loose here and give everyone the benefit of doubt. Every post and opinion is not a conspiracy theory. Let people voice out their opinions and not thrash them like a mad mob with forks and fire arms.

@Shivani
LoL.
I know a lot of people who keep quiet because they are afraid of being bashed. And thing is there is no hard and fast rule that one must like all actors/characters. I may not like the present portrayal of Sharon but that's my opinion and that does not alter my love for Sharon. And I have never even criticised the present actor or any actor for that matter. I've simply criticised the writing, direction etc. Yet I was always counter-attacked as TanHa fan.

Yeah I saw that part of the argument. This is what I mean when I say personal remarks should be stopped and why I have never bashed another actor. Such things are said in the spur of the moment, but can really hurt the other person.
