Next morning, Jassi goes to Oberoi Industries to meet Gajanan Kaka. Meera is pleasantly taken aback to find her there.
Meera: Arre Jassi….tum yahaan? Koi kaam tha toh phone kar diya hota…
Jassi: (smiling) Kyun? Main aise hi aapse milne nahin aa sakti? Waise….sab theek chal raha hai na?
Meera: (sighing) Bas….theek hi hai….choti-choti problems toh aati hi rehti hai….
Jassi wants to get more out of her, but she seems too busy to talk much. She seats Jassi in her office, apologizing. "Tum mind mat karna Jassi….main zyada der baat nahin kar paungi….meri kuch clients ke saath meeting hai….tum yahin baitho, main Gajanan Kaka ko bhejti hun…."
"Ok", says Jassi, thinking, "Chalo achcha hai…..G.Kaka aaj office mein hi hai……aur iss waqt unse khul kar baat ho sakti hai…."
G Kaka comes in and greets her warmly. She comes to the point pretty quickly. "Kaka, aaj main yahaan ek special kaam se aayi hun…..mujhe aapse CJ ke baare mein kuch poochna hai….."
G Kaka gazes at her in shock. "Jeev ke baare mein……kyun? Aisi kya wajah hai?"
Jassi is in a quandary whether to tell him their suspicions. She tells him about Neha Shastri and the murder of Anuj Shastri, and how all this was connected with CJ. G Kaka looks grim as she finishes.
G Kaka: (sitting down) Jassi, mujhe samajh nahin aa raha ki tumhe kya bataun, kya nahin…..iss parivar par pehle se hi kaafi musibatein aa chuki hai…..ab puraani baatein nikaal kar, phir se wahi kissa dohrana……iss sabki kya zaroorat hai beta? Jeev toh Raghav ke khoon se sazaa kaat hi raha hai na…?
Jassi: (vehemently) Zaroorat hai, Kaka! Ek begunaah aadmi ki maut ka zimmedaar hai wo aadmi…..aur usse is gunaah ki sazaa milni chahiye….aap mujhe bas itna bataiye, ki kya aapko CJ ke baton se laga ki wo kisi ka murder karne ka plan banaa raha hai?
G Kaka sighs and starts telling her what he knows: CJ was adopted years ago by Shiv Pratap Oberoi, when he was about 5. No one knew anything about his life before that. Papa Oberoi was very fond of him, but he somehow always made a distinction between him and his "real" sons. CJ felt this, but did not show it before him. There was one person, however, who was close to CJ and sensed his growing resentment: G Kaka himself. He was aware that CJ was growing alienated from his family, and that there might be a confrontation soon. But then CJ was sent to London to take charge of a new business there, and the storm abated. He came back a few months later, seemingly calm. But somehow….G Kaka felt that this was a new CJ, not their Jeev who was vulnerable and impassioned…..but a sinister creature who was lurking for a right opportunity to get back at them all. This sense of unease was strengthened when Shiv Pratap announced that his eldest son Samar would be taking over the charge of the property soon. CJ took it very quietly, but G Kaka felt that there was more to him that met the eye. When Samar was murdered, G Kaka had a momentary suspicion that maybe CJ…..? But he quickly suppressed the thought……their Jeev would never go as far as that. But now….he wondered sometimes……
Jassi is piecing together the jigsaw puzzle in her mind. Everything seems to fit. "Kaka….ek baat bateiyen….aapko CJ par shaq kyun hua…..Samar ka murder toh Nainital mein hua tha na….aur CJ, uss waqt Dilli mein tha……"
G Kaka is taken aback. He also looks extremely guilty. But Jassi looks so imploringly at him that he finally admits that the night before Samar was murdered, CJ had phoned him—from Nainital!—saying that he was there to carry out a private deal which he didn't want anyone from the Oberoi family to know….he had requested G Kaka not to tell anyone he was there, as he wanted to start a little independent business of his own. He had believed CJ implicitly, and never told the police what he knew. He thought he was shielding him from unnecessary suspicion, but since he came to know that CJ had killed Raghav…..he wondered if….if he had killed Samar too?
Tomorrow: Jassi gets another shock
