A broken gift
How could I have given you my heart, my self,
when I was never whole?
Who would give their loved one a broken gift?
For thats what I was.
A broken heart,
A broken gift.
My life snatched away,
by the hands of cruel fate,
Laughing it's laugh of merriment,
Clapping and dancing on the grave of my broken dreams.
But I was never the one to give in to fears,
My heart engulfed by the unshed frozen tears ,
Mourning the death of my dear ones,
A heart broken, a broken heart.
Broken and crumpled, my dreams, my life
A mere shadow of myself, I survived
Just a shard of the pieces that were once whole,
Broken gift, a broken gift, that was once whole.
But you picked up the pieces of my broken heart,
And fused it together with your gentle warmth,
Piece by piece, with patience and love,
The broken heart, the broken heart.
Healed my sores with gentle salves
of ointment, and feathery glances
Crushed and broken by unbearable events,
a broken heart, but you made it whole, my broken heart.
For I was, not just a heart,
But a mind too, that dreamt of dreams,
To take to its wings, undeterred, unfettered,
To soar over the skies, to serve the world.
You knew me better than me,
Gave me the freedom to try my wings,
Knowing full well that I'll never go far,
For a mind cannot go far leaving behind its heart.
A broken heart that is now whole
Bursting with trust and love,
belongs to me no more,
for I have entrusted you my heart.
I know your heart beats for me
I'll treat it kindly, nourish it gently,
Cherish the love we have
For dearly I too love thee, the keeper of my heart.
