Catching up with work until next week after all the festivities. Sorry but I won't have time to write until late next week.

Shall I post a little teaser of what's to come?

Lo, I'm even late with a teaser. (Kaan pakad-ing, I'm really swamped with work.)
I'm not sure if this will be in the next chapter but I'm working it in somewhere soon. Enjoy 😃

"My God, he's a beautiful man. So chiselled and... raw." Heer's eyes as she stared at Christian Bale were both comically awed and clouded with lust. She watched the Caped Crusader fight through the streets of Gotham and demolished the strawberries in her lap with equal fervour.

Dev watched Heer with wide eyes and chuckled as she licked her fingers with childish enthusiasm. She was a goofball, he decided, but she was a nice goofball.

"You are so right." Geet, too, had her eyes glued to the screen. "Who knew Tom Hardy would look so sexy bald? Mmm-mm."

The sudden sound of choking brought Geet out of her supervillian-driven fantasies and she looked up in time to see Dev slapping the back of a red faced Maan.

"What?" She asked innocently.

"Geet... Bane??" Even Heer looked surprised.

When Geet shrugged unashamedly, Heer broke out in a wide, toothy grin. "Well, well, well... you dog, you!"

Chapter 31 - The Trade-Off

Maan stuck his head in the fridge and fished around for some tuna. It was a warm, rainy afternoon and he was alone in the house.

Dev, who had arrived two days earlier, had taken Geet along with him to view the site they would be working on. Meanwhile, Heer - the tornado he hadn't seen coming - had taken a ride into town with Mr Gopal and Nayantara, whom he had met very briefly the night before.

As the water in the kettle bubbled merrily, Maan sighed in satisfaction. He had a whole day alone ahead of him, freeing him to look at as many files and - more importantly - eat as much pasta as he wished. It was going to be a good day.

The kettle whistled, momentarily pausing the search for food for the more rousing quest for coffee. Coffee was Geet's addiction but the last few days had not been kind to him and his caffeine intake now matched hers.

He found it rather funny, in a way. Seven years with her, including five years of marriage had had no effect on his two cups of coffee a day and yet, a few days without her and he had doubled his intake, at least.

The first time they had met was in his office canteen during her first collaboration with his company. It had been a filmi situation, alright. She had taken the box of pasta he'd wanted and he was in line for the last cup of coffee before the canteen closed for the day.

Neither was willing to back down but after glaring at each other from different tables for several minutes, their captive meals untouched, they struck a deal: he would give her the coffee and in return, she would choose another pasta box.

Compromise, they had repeated territorially as they swapped and immediately shielded the other from their drugs of choice.

He laughed at the memory. They had continued to strike such deals all the way until... well, until they finally got married.

Maybe that was why...

Maan turned suddenly at the sound of footsteps behind him. He couldn't be sure if it was just him but the sky outside seemed to darken as he saw his peaceful, pasta-filled day slipping away from him.

His pining was cut short by the appearance of a figure.

"Geet..."

* * *

Not even two seconds passed after she entered the house that the scent of freshly brewed coffee beckoned her. She had a problem, she knew it but frankly, she was an unashamed addict.

Entering the kitchen, she stopped short at the sight of Maan hunched over a cup of coffee. She tried to retreat quietly but it was too late.
"Geet..."
"Uh, hi. I came in and smelled coffee and I just... uh, never mind."
He chuckled. "You have a problem, you know that?"
Her shoulders slumped. "I know." Eyes wide, she leaned forward and whispered, "I've had three cups already."
He gasped in mock horror. "No!"
They chuckled and he patted a stool in invitation. "Sit down, I'll make you another." Seeing her expression, he added with a smile, "Don't worry. I won't tell Heer."
"I swear, that woman is going to drive me crazy with all her healthy eating. I don't understand her love for green tea." Geet shuddered. "It tastes like soap."
"Remember when she challenged you to switch from coffee to green tea for a week? You didn't even last a day!"
"How dare you! I lasted three whole days!" Geet proudly puffed out her chest .
"Put a cork in it, birdie. I saw you sneak a sip from my cup two hours into the challenge."
Caught, Geet opened and closed her mouth but could not think of a defence.
"Yeah. That's what I thought."
She rolled her eyes and they smiled to themselves as they waited in a silence that was not altogether unpleasant.
The kettle whistled in approval and he began to make her coffee. As he stirred in the sugar, his heart prodded him in fits and starts to voice thoughts that were still half-formed. He longed to speak to her, longed to voice that he finally - finally - was beginning to understand.
Hesitating, he began. "I, uh, didn't get a chance to tell you this earlier but... I, um, I'm looking forward to working with you," he gulped and cautiously added, "Ms Handa."
Her head snapped up in shock but when she saw the way his eyes implored her to understand him, she recognised something of an olive branch that he was extending.
"Please," she replied with a smile. "Call me Geet."

Untitled?
why...
I love your writing Zarin. You opened them up so much in such a small piece.
The bond of coffee ..😳 I totally get that.. and yes green tea does taste like soap water, though extremely mild soap water...😆
Please update more..
Thanks for this one.
