This special holiday is celebrated very grandly in India. It's all the more special because it's not subject to just one religion of India but in fact, two! This is the one holiday that Hindus and Sikhs celebrate together, albeit, for different reasons.
Today, the Crazy Creatives would like to celebrate it with all of IF no matter what your religion is!

This day is extremely significant for the Hindu religion because it is celebrated for when Lord Ram returned to Ayodhya after 14 years of his vanvaas (his stay in the jungle) which is the beginning of the Ram-Rajya in Ayodhya. To welcome him, the whole of Ayodhya was lit with diyas (or deeps).

Ever since, this day is celebrated with lights and galore as 'Deepawali' among the Hindu community.

Day One: Dhan Theras

This day is considered to be an auspicious day for buying gold or silver. The Lakshmi Puja is performed on this day, and diya's are lit to drive away evil spirits. Bhajans, in the praise of Goddess Lakshmi are also sung.

Day Two: Narak Chaturdasi

Also known as Chhoti Diwali, this day is allotted for the worship of Maha-Kali or Shakti, as it believed that on this day, Maa Kali killed the evil Narakasura. This is a day to abolish laziness and evil.

Day Three: Lakshmi Poojan

This marks the most important day of the 5-day festival. Hindu homes worship Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth, and Ganesh, the God of auspicious beginnings. They then light lamps to welcome prosperity and new beginnings.

Day Four: Goverdhan Puja

It is believed that on this day, Lord Krishna defeated Lord Indra. He saved the people from floods and storm, by lifting the famous Govardhan Pahad. Men gift their wives on this day. It is supposed to be the first day of a New Year according to the Gujrati calendar.

Day Five: Bhai Dooj

On this day, brothers and sisters meet to express their love and affection for each other. It is believed that Yami welcomed her brother Yama, the Lord of Death. They had a feast together on this day.

Diwali is celebrated by Sikhs as it is the day the 6th Guru of the Sikh religion was released from the Mughal prison from Gawalior. Guru Hargobind also brought along 52 Hindu Kings who were captured in the prison with him.
Guruji and the Hindu Kings were welcomed back safe and sound with lit diyas (divas in Punjabi). The Golden Temple in Amritsar was also lit entirely on this day in celebration hence, Amritsar celebrates it as a grand affair since compared to the other cities in Punjab.
