His eyes
She was browsing through the old photographs -some of them with her classmates, some with her colleagues- different memories of her- smiling, frowning, enjoying, when a photo fell on her lap. She looked at it and caressed it most reverently as though it was the most valuable treasure in the world. It was a photograph of his eyes.
His eyes were what captivated her heart in the first instance. The memory was still crystal clear in her mind. She saw him first at a seminar. There was a blind man in the audience who was trying to find out his way through the crowd. No one bothered about him. She was about to go when she saw a guy putting a hand over his shoulder gently guiding him his way out. She looked at the guy and his eyes captured her attention-full of warmth and compassion. The scene touched her heart. She can never describe the emotions that rushed through her at the moment. She felt as though she could see his soul through his eyes. Sure she had seen many compassionate people in her life but his eyes full of warmth and friendliness. She felt an instant connection to him. She was not able to locate him after the seminar. But the memory of him got imprinted in her mind. She did not have the hope of seeing him again nor did she expect to or trying to find him. Whenever she received any sort of help from any one she remembered him. Sometimes she used to think what was so special about him but his eyes never left her. Later when she was browsing through the photos of the seminar, she saw a photo of him with the blind man he had helped that day. His face was not clearly visible in that photo only the eyes were clear. She edited the photo and saved a copy with his eyes. She herself could not understand why she did it.
Few months later she joined a company as a manager. Her parents were searching alliance for her and they posted her profile in matrimonial site. One day she was casually browsing through the interests she received, when she got stunned for a moment. It was his profile, the same eyes which had never left her heart and mind. She was nervous and excited at the same time. With shaking fingers, she tried to press the accept option but she could not do so. May be his parents had sent that interest .He did not even see her that day .Would he like her? Can she spend the rest of her life just by seeing one gesture of his which she adored? After fidgeting for a while, she left the decision to god and finally said yes to the proposal. She did not sleep that night. She tossed and turned in her bed. Finally unable to take it any longer, she again checked her matrimony profile to see whether there is any response from him. For two days she waited for his reply but there was none. Finally she reprimanded herself to act so silly maybe he did not like her.
Somewhere in her heart she felt bad but she tried to distract her mind by indulging in other activities. She came from office that evening when she got a pleasant surprise from her parents. They told her that the guy had called her parents. They wanted to come to their home the next morning to see her. She was so nervous that she ended up burying herself in her entire ward robe dumped on the bed. Finally she selected on a simple yet elegant pink anarkali suit. She never had any boyfriends in her life and she did not know about how to understand what qualities would a guy like him needed in his life partner? Should she say talk to him first what if he thinks she is bold or should she let him make the move. What would he think about her? What would he talk to her? Should she confess that she saw him before or would she say that thing later? May be he would think she is weird. She could not sleep the entire night imagining different scenarios with him.
Next day, finally they arrived and she saw the car from the balcony of her room. She hid herself behind the curtains wanting to have a glimpse of him. He came out of the car and she was so disappointed to see the cooling glasses on his eyes that she wanted to break them. She was dying to look at his eyes again. His parents were very polite and friendly people. She liked them instantly but she could not get the courage to look at him directly. She was aware of his every move but she could not lift her eyes to look at him. Finally her parents asked them to go on the terrace to talk with each other. She led the way and he followed her silently. She was very nervous and shy not understanding what to do and what not to do. Hi' he was the first one to break the silence."Hi' she replied back still not looking at him.
There was silence for a moment before he introduced about himself, his profession, hobbies and his family. She already knew some parts of it before from his profile but she liked to hear his voice. He asked about her and she replied to him. She wanted to say so much but could not voice her words. She was irritated with herself for behaving this way but she could not help it. They talked from a while and she enjoyed his conversations, smiled and laughed but did not look at him properly. Her parents called her from downstairs and they understood that it was time to leave. She was about to leave when she heard his voice. 'Oh God ! Something fell in my eyes" she panicked and instantly she looked at his face. He was rubbing his eyes with one of his hand. She hesitated at first but her concern overpowered her shyness and she touched his face gently with her hand trying to look at his eyes. However she was surprised when he suddenly removed his hand smiling at her his eyes full of warmth and mischief. She was captivated by his eyes and forgot herself for a moment when she heard his mischievous voice' You know I am not that bad to look at'. She lowered her eyes, smiled and ran away.
Her parents were very happy that evening for having the alliance fixed and she was hiding in her room since the moment she left the terrace. She opened her laptop and stared at his picture and wrote a few words near it. She slept dreaming of him .she woke up a bit late as it was Sunday and she checked her phone and saw a new message." Hi! Good morning" from his number. She smiled and replied back. She went to get ready. Normally, she never paid attention to her image in the mirror that much but today she observed her image trying to see herself through his eyes. There was a certain glow in her face and her lips were smiling involuntarily. When her mother called her from outside, she came back to this world but the smile never left her face for the rest of the day.
