Okay let me just say first of all , great post...really kudos to you for penning all of this down 👏

Let me summarize my entire reply to this post in one line ;
I would write even if there is no one there to read... I am just happy with the readers I have.

BUT, having said that I am human, I do get disgruntled if the response I get is not up to expectations and when my comments and likes drop. It is not the best feeling in the world but then I think of the people who genuinely read and genuinely comment . As long as there are readers like that there is no way of feeling discouraged.you achieve a certain high when your work is being appreciated .

I am a person who is always happy and content and not really fazed by failure so it doesn't bother me that much when some of my hard work does not translate into success but you learn to ignore the comments like 'nice one' or 'amazing os' and read and re-read the ones from the heart.

Like you said quality is better than quantity so readers, I advice you to write one liners if it from the heart instead of repeating and repeating the same points, it really puts off a reader.

One thing I have reconciled with is that if the comments are not from the heart it is also not the reader's fault. Maybe it wasn't up to mark or maybe it wasn't technically correct or emotionally touching...if the words aren't convincing we can't blame the reader...maybe they are our friends so they do not want to hurt us...it is understandable and I am completely fine with it...if not a good reader at least a good friend.

Now about the people who have genuinely irritated me...those who reserve and never, ever unreserve. When you get replies you rush to check them out but then you see a person going 'me first res!' And you think okay they will unreserve it soon...three days , four days go by and you realize you get all your likes and comments but this person hasn't unreserved yet, these people are the ones who really discourage a writer because they practically write it in bold that they are too bored to read your work. Humble request readers if you are one to do that don't commit at all...

So one thing which really struck a chord with me is your statement about criticism ... In IF it is not possible for a writer to get a piece of constructive criticism no matter how bad it is, trust me ...when I read my earliest works I wonder how people appreciated it. Here no one will inform you if you make grammar mistakes .there are dozens of writers whom I know of who writes horribly (no offense I am really honest) and get so much more readers than wonderful writers maybe because the worse writer has more friends and the good writers are quiet or don't have many friends, here writing skills do not ensure you readers because this place is based on friendship and loyalty . In this platform at least you will never receive criticism.

So bottom line I appreciate your post but it is all in the hands of the reader and how it is perceived. I for one will never complain because I am happy but I do not endorse the reader's and their particularly hurtful behavior because in the end of the day it is effort being wasted.

Deeths, thanks for making my point (here in this post -https://www.indiaforums.com/forum/post/94565750) clear but it seems as though people feel I am here to accuse or blame readers, NO. I am not here to blame anyone. I have just asked for a REASON. There being different readers, we have different justifications, we different opinions. And all I wanted was an answer. Something that could justify the consequent one-word comments. Only you all can give me an answer to it.

And. With this I really need to clear a few things, which -quite visibly seems to be misinterpreted by many.

First, people I again and again haven't mentioned that one-liners are a complete NO. No, I haven't said that. Neither would I ever say it. All I meant here is just a REVIEW.

Can Anyone justify,

"Awesome update"
"Amazing update"
"superb part"

are these REVIEWS? If, according to anyone it is, then, I really doubt people know what review means. I sound rude. If yes, that's how a reader sounds to writer giving them those one-word/ two-words comment. That actually makes the person doubt whether the person has really read it or not.

On contrary, I would even say, if a person has genuinely a reason to give such a comment, its accepted - but not always does a person has the same reviewing pattern of posting those one/two-word comments.

Have a look what I had mentioned in the post
"Even a one liner written with more actualized review can makes our day. There are people who just write the same old comment making writers doubt whether the excerpt was actually read or not."

People do have constrains, I do agree.

Secondly, about the readers getting drained out by reviewing. I never mentioned to have a detailed review. It just needs to be a review. At least a two-liner. I am sure, if one can spare time to read something then like it and then post a comment on it, they can spare a few seconds more to jot down something that they felt was written well and something that they felt could have been improved or can be worked upon. Is it that complicated?

I am not saying go and review the entire story if don't remember the outline. But you can definitely question the writer about it, via. comment post or scraps, that's your choice. But this is what you can do. And if the writer is giving it after that long duration, even the writer won't mind giving you a gist of the story.

Thirdly, and most importantly, there are people who read, like and just run away, (sometimes they don't even like) always how would you justify them and their actions.
For sure, if someone's reading something, they ought to like something about it. Time is really precious, and we all do value it. So if one reads something they won't do it for time pass. It isn't that you feel like passing your time, you don't get anything and you land-up reading something.

And how is the writer suppose to know that one has read it. At times such incidents are excused but not every time.

Thus, if one can spare time to read they can even spare some time to write a two-liner comment. I am not mentioning a detailed essay out here. But a review. A proper Review.

And obviously, I had posted what I felt was going on and is still going on. And I would like people to give their own opinions rather than getting someone else's or throwing their opinion through someone else. People do have this much liberty to speak out their views and thoughts.

And more over I never did point out anyone- in specific- I have just generally mentioned it to be the readers, though we know who those bunch of readers are.

Those who are not interested in reading a particular writers work can let them know, the writer would themselves take the pain of removing that particular user ID, because this makes a lot of tasks easier.
It even lets a writer get down their expectations and thus, the lower number of comments, even serve them a higher level satisfaction.

And I meant to know the justifications from a readers side rather than accusing and blaming someone.

For the time being this is all I could say in reference to the replies.

I totally agree.. we writers take the pains of updating, typing out things for u all instead of studying or working or doing any regular activity.. every writer would at least take three hours time for one update!
and upar se these comments they make us feel not to write anymore..
quit writing..
which has never occurred to us before we joined IF..
i know people are busy they Reserve their comments and its totally fine.. but reserving and then forgetting is not done guys..
we writers give u our precious time.. except that we give much more to u.. we potray our emotions, our feelings out in the update.. try to make it better in any way we can and all we get is "Awesome Update" what do u mean by that?
U know, some people actually make me think whether they've read the content or not..
its not accusing anyone.. but atleast u shud tell what u liked, what u think we need to improve at.. as said by di..
And when it comes to One liners? its not a great deal.. we understand dat one liners are fine but still u guys need to give a REVIEW in that one line.. not just a comment for increasing ur post..!!
First we write..
then next we send pm's to hundreds of people..
we sit in front of our computers to type out the update for YOU all !
and all we ask for is a review.. and if u fail to even do that and what is the use of our writing yaar? we shouldn't write things then..
one should respect if some one is giving you their time, their energy..
u are busy right? we are also not free. we too have our assighments, home works, and single thing that u do. if u think that we simply sit in front of the computer whole day typing out to u then u are WRONG!
we manage everything and yet we never fail to give a update..
whenever is the next date as decided by us.. and u guys cant even give a proper review !
I understand everyone cannot put in words or write long comments.. and we don't expect people to write letters in the form of posts..
we dont ask people detailed comments.. mentioning every single line.. we just ask for a proper review.. and i guess everyone knows what it is..
If u have spent your precious time reading the update then spend a few more minutes to write a post too guys..
as if u are not free neither are we..
u know what after checking the comments below i really feel sick.. nothing but SICK.
hpw can u accuse someone for her efforts guys? like seriously..
No one gave u the permission to accuse anyone sure u can object things she/we can clear them out but who are YOU to accuse her?
and i think it was clearly mentioned .. what else do u want? im unable to understand sorry.
"PS: I don't want to hurt anyone's sentiments. It's purely my opinion! My perception."

At least that is what i felt.
and im totally supporting u in this shenz di..in every way i can.. as i said earlier..!!

To be frank.. yes I believe all the writers do get a little disheartened when the comment is in just one word or so..(how much ever you try to deny it😳)
especially if what they have given is a full length one..taking hours to some up all the scenes, and finally when ur eagerly waiting for the first comment...all that comes up is a 'res' or 'nice'!
but yes..if the readers r otherwise active and only occassionally give a one liner or word as a comment..i totally understand... b'coz some of us writers are readers as well..and we have faced similar situations too!
much needed post...for exchange of opinions between readers and writers!
