Ranveer Singh’s father steps into Don 3 controversy, challenges Rs 45 crore loss claim before IMPPA

Ranveer Singh’s father Jagjit Singh Bhavnani has approached the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (IMPPA) amid the ongoing dispute surrounding Don 3: The Final Chapter. Bhavnani submitted a plea challenging Excel Entertainment’s reported ?45 crore claim linked to Ranveer’s exit from the Farhan Akhtar directorial.

Bhavnani met IMPPA representatives on Tuesday and submitted documents related to the matter. IMPPA president Abhay Sinha confirmed the meeting. According to India Today, the association’s legal team will examine the plea, along with the available evidence, before deciding its next course of action.

The dispute began after Ranveer reportedly stepped away from Don 3, citing creative differences with the makers. The film was announced in August 2023, with Ranveer being introduced as the new face of the Don franchise after Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan.

The matter later escalated when the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) issued a non cooperation directive against Ranveer on May 25. During a press conference, FWICE chief Ashoke Pandit claimed that Farhan Akhtar had suffered losses of nearly ?45 crore following the developments around the film.

However, the directive was withdrawn on June 3, eight days after it was issued. The move came after Ranveer reportedly sent a legal notice to FWICE. The Producers Guild of India had also urged the concerned parties to resolve the dispute.

The withdrawal followed intervention from IMPPA, the Producers Guild of India and the Cine & TV Artistes Association (CINTAA). FWICE president and filmmaker BN Tiwari later said the federation remained open to dialogue with the actor. “On behalf of the Federation, we would like to request Ranveer Singh to come and sit with us. This film industry family is yours, ours, everyone’s,” he said. “No one has won or lost in this matter. Our legal department will respond to his legal notice,” Tiwari added.

With Bhavnani now approaching IMPPA, the dispute has entered another stage. The association is expected to review the submissions from the concerned sides before determining how the matter should proceed carefully before deciding the matter.
