PART1: History of Mughal emperors
I read in one book the characteristics of mughals and their working way
Babur founder Mughal
Humayun the forgiving mughal
Akbar the great administrator mughal
Jehangir the just mughal(he was called adil padshah by citizens)
Shah Jahan the great architect mughal
Aurangzeb the cruel mughal
So if you actualy observe the innocent not so street smart mughals were humayun and jehangir. They would listen to everyone and take all sort of wrong decision very fickle minded and forgiving
Akbar was street smart, great at administration, not wasting money on luxurious life and hard working and peoples person great people manager and leader
Shah Jahan was no less cruel than Aurangzeb. Do you know he killed his 2 living brothers especially Khusrau decietfully when jehangir was alive. when jehangir demanded to know how really Khusrau died(he suspected because a minister complained) shah jahan refused to help jehangir against persian shah attack and hence jehangir lost kandahar and kabul fort. He also buried khusrau without telling jehangir or his other brothers-sisters in deccan. Jehangir was literally caught between a revolting cruel son and a devious power hungry manipulative wife in his last years of life.
Shah Jahan's father in law Asaf Khan was a dubious person(nur jahans brother, mumtaz father) he was working with jehangir but actually he was helping shah jahan against jehangir and nur jahan. Shah jahan killed all his brothers children and his two brothers and all of jehangirs brothers and sisters(jehangir had 2 brothers daniyal and murad and 3 sisters khannum, aram and one more) children who lived with jehangir in agra and lahore fort and all of jehangirs cousin brothers kids (Humayun's step brothers grand childern, great grand children). There was literal blood bath by him after his father died. Why he spared nur jahan is one mystery?
Nur jahan's family were actually migrants from iran whom akbar took pity and gave work but they literally divided akbar's family by sheer deciet and control of shah jahan and jehangir. Nur jahan's father stole so much money from treasury that jehangir was forced to put him in jail and fine him and consficate his estates to recover it. Imatadullah, his son, daughter nur jahan and grand daughter mumtaz literally destroyed mughal empire apart from aurangzeb.
If you have read mumtaz is an innocent character forget it. She was very deceitful she did not allow shah jahan to have kids with his other wives or allow them to be given any wife rights. She and Nur Jahan would openly give orders in durbar and ride over their husband's decisions(right or wrong) in their benefits. Shah Jahan had 2 daugters from his first two wives but they did not have any standing at agra fort like mumtaz's kids although they were elder than all of mumtaz's children.
It is a myth that only nur jahan was a powrful empress who issued orders. Hamida banu also issued orders whe akbar was a child king in his name till he was 18 years old. Ruqaiah, Salima and Jodha Bai also issued orders using Akbar's seals. So did Mumtaz Mahal using her husbands seal. Jagat Gosain(jodh bai) jehangir's wife and khurram's mother also used her husbands seal to issue orders in initial 5 years that she was chief empress after jehangir became emperor because there were many revolts and jehangir was always in wars and subduing revolts and hardly in royal court.
The only difference between these empress and Nur jahan was Nur jahan liked flaunting her orders in front of court like having own coin, own seal etc. But other empress used their husbands seal that is it. Also Nur Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal sat behind their husbands in court rather than in women's section behind purdah. If they had genuine interest of empire that would have been fine but that was not the case.
It may suprise you to know Jodha Bai(Jehangir's mother) commanded an group of the army and in Akbar's absence Salima Begum presided over mughal court in place of Akbar(though she would sit in ladies balcony not on emperors seat like nur jahan) when he was not in agra and at war. Saliam begum would issue orders in akbars name not her own name.
So the myth that nur jahan was a great empress who worked is wrong as conveyed by british and french ambassdors. Yes she was power hungry and always wanted to potray that she did all work not her husband. Again that itself is a myth in ambassdors letter from mughal court it clearly states jehangir worked 16 hours a day till almost last months of his life although he was frequently unwell. Just that nur jahan was shrewd and showed off that she worked while other empress did it behind closed doors, behind curtains and not sitting on their husbands throne. Also others made decision keeping law and justice in mind, Nur Jahan took every decision to promote her family(read her parents, brothers, daughter etc not jehangir's family or the empire) and her interests
You can just assume jehangir was a bit more modern and non egoistic and did not mind others knowing his wife did work while other emperors ensured that their wives work only behind closed doors. But the other wives also worked as much as Nur jahan and more but did not take credit for that work. Their husbands got credit for their works whether charity, building monuments or political affairs. Also other wives did not ask and were not permitted to have royal seals and coins in their name like Nur Jahan.
Will update more details later

I am not sure who akda khan is there is no one by that name in mughals atleast when you google.
Atagah Khan is Shamshuddin Khan in the serial. Atagah Khan was Akbar's foster father and Akbar stayed with him and his wife for a few years in Kabul. Atagah Khan was his title, Atagah means father in some language.

Jehangir was not as fickle minded as his grand father Humayun. But he could easily be influenced by others views and led by them. Also, many nobels like Khan-e-khana Rahim, Man Singh and other big nobels in court opposed his ascession as emperor and supported Khusrau.
An assasination attempt was to be made on him a few days just before his father Akbar died as he was going in boat to Agra fort to meet his father but the boatman was quick enough to save him by diverting the boat to other shore when some courtier warned them of that plan.
It was suspected that this assasination attempt was made by Khusaru and his team of nobels because they wanted Khusrau to be an emperor despite Akbar favouring Jehangir. Despite that he forgave majortiy of those who sided Khusrau after becoming emperor and did not imprison and kill them.

I always thought he was cruel to blind his own son.. especially when he himself has rebelled against is father. some people say that jehangir may have poisoned Akbar which led to his death..

Thanks for the wonderful information... It is good to know about Shah Jahah and Nur Jahan and others...

I think Akbar is the one good administrator and leader which is why he still has good name "AKbar the Great" which no other Mugals have...
