The business of Chennai Express made August a record month as far as box office collections are concerned for Hindi films. There were 18 releases in August 2013 which had a cumulative nett gross of a little under 375 crore with Chennai Express having a huge 55% share despite the month seeing other major releases like Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara, Satyagraha and Madras Cafe.
The previous best month was November 2012 which which was the first month to cross 300 crore nett with releases like Son Of Sardaar, Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Talaash although the last two underperformed. November 2012 had a cumulative gross of 310 crore with 15 releases.
The only other month to cross 300 crore nett is May 2013 with nett business of 301 crore on 17 releases due to Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani supported a little by Shootout At Wadala. September 2012 went close to 300 crore with 296 crore on 14 releases as Barfi!, Raaz 3 amd OMG! Oh My God contributed well.
The line-up for November 2013 can make it beat the records of August 2013.
