Is Devon Conway unsold in IPL 2026?

Yes, Devon Conway went unsold in the IPL 2026 mini-auction in December 2025, despite being a prominent player for CSK previously, but he immediately responded with strong performances in the SA20 and Test cricket, including a double century and century in the same Test match for New Zealand, showcasing his form. Several big names, including Steve Smith and Jonny Bairstow, also went unsold as franchises focused on different strategies.

What is the new rule in IPL 2026?

The main new rule for the IPL 2026 mini-auction caps the salary of any overseas player at ₹18 crore (around $2.15 million USD), even if franchises bid higher; any excess funds go to the BCCI's player welfare fund, not the player, aiming to control inflation and balance foreign player earnings with top Indian players. Other changes include a two-year ban for players who withdraw after registering for an auction and blocking overseas players who skipped the mega-auction from entering mini-auctions

RCB did explore alternative venues for IPL 2026

Because of the tragic crowd crush outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium (11 people killed in June 2025), that venue was initially not cleared for matches and RCB were indeed looking at alternatives, including DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai and Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Stadium in Raipur.

It’s not that D Y Patil Stadium itself said “no” because of some refusal to help, the primary reported reason is that Mumbai Indians objected to RCB using DY Patil before other venues are prioritized, arguing that RCB should exhaust all other options first.
In other words, MI was reported to resist the proposal rather than D Y Patil as a venue owner, officially declining it in a definitive manner.

The Karnataka government has conditionally approved Chinnaswamy Stadium to host IPL matches again after safety upgrades and compliance checks.

So while the government has opened the door for Chinnaswamy to be used again, RCB hasn’t officially announced that they will play all or most home matches there yet. Of course, RCB was looking at DY Patil Stadium as a possible alternative venue for IPL 2026.
