I'm super Nervous! Just read on!

Entwined:

Chapter-20:

"Ah!! What the hell are you doing?" Anjali exclaimed just as Shyam dragged her away all through the hall way, with his hand gripping her wrist and Sheethal following them closely, keeping up with their fast steps.

"What the hell have you been doing up there?" Shyam almost yelled at his wife, as they finally reached inner room of the mansion and he literally twirled her around finally letting her hand go.

"Why are you reacting so dramatically?"

"For god sak,e grow up Anji!!! This is not funny!!"

"I was just trying to play a prank----"

"------What seems funny to you doesn't have to be necessarily the same to others"

"---------But I thought I would make it easy for him to realize---"

"What???" Shyam asked her incredulously.

"I thought I would announce about marriage and then after a while brush it off as a joke, but before I could to that, you dragged me away. I thought my mentioning it would give him the push he needed and he would think of proposing Sheethal------" she paused and looked at the silent spectator in the room looking back at the both of them with an unreadable expression.

"She had been waiting------"

"What??"

"I was not!"

The both of them uttered at the same time causing Anjali to finally shut her mouth and she looked at the both of them horrified. "You were not?" she asked turning towards to Sheethal.

"No Anji, when did I ever tell you anything about it?"

"But you didn't reject as well?"

"Oh shut up Anjali! It was not like you asked anything, even the so called date was your stupid set up and they were just keeping your word..."

"You knew it as well?" Anjali now turned to Shyam completely astonished.

"Yes and I had been trying to enlighten you, you were so damn busy in your own world, open your eyes goddammit! Sheethal is not what your brother wants" he said and immediately regretted his words realizing the affect it might have on Sheethal. He snapped a look at her apologetically, and she nodded as a silent understanding passed between them.

"Oh god! He will be really angry on me! I thought I would surprise the both of them and then they would-----"

"For god sake Anjali, think beyond what you want to think!!!" Shyam exclaimed exasperated throwing his hands in air.

"I'm sorry" she replied finally, as her head went down staring at her feet, suddenly not being able to process anything.

"You are apologizing the wrong person----"

"And the right person doesn't need your bloody apology!"

The three of them looked up towards the door at Arnav, who stood there, his face tortured, angry, annoyed and his stance completely possessed by rage.

"Arnav, I'm sorry---"

He pushed his hand, showing her his palm in air vigorously asking her to stop speaking. "What the hell were you thinking Anjali, did I ever tell you that I like your friend? Did I ask you to get me engaged to her?"

"And you!" he abruptly turned towards Sheethal, who was silently witnessing it all. "Did you tell your ever so best friend here, that we are not into each other?"

"How am I supposed to hell that I don't like her brother, I thought you handled her already! You do that better!"

"Arnav I'm sorry----"

Arnav again showed his hand to his sister, clearly showing his anger even as his eyes were for an instant fixed at Shyam. "I tried stopping her, but she wouldn't tell me what she was planning to do!" Shyam spoke to his boring gaze.

Arnav inhaled a deep breath and turned around abruptly running his both hands in his air, shrieking his eyes shut as he tried his best controlling his rage.

"I'm really sorry Arnav! It was just a stupid prank, not that people would remember it, I can easily go on stage and correct what I said, it's no big deal for god's sake, I don't get your reaction!! All of you are over reacting! Don't you think? I do such pranks always right Chote------"

"Shut up!" Arnav yelled turning around throwing daggers at his sister. He took another deep breathe composing his anger, as he consciously reduced his tone and stepped a bit closer to his sister.

"Listen to me carefully Anjali Jha, next time you try and interfere in my life, you will pay it and you will pay it big time dammit and next time you beg me to stay back for any of your goddam events think twice! Coz I'm done! I'm done with you, with your craziness, with this f**king city and with people here even!"

With that Arnav turned around and walked away from the room, leaving the three of them baffled.

"I don't get it! Why is he so angry, Shyam, what----" her voice gave away into tears as she looked on at her husband earnestly. "Sheethal, please explain her if you can, I think I have better people to handle at the moment"

With that even Shyam left the room, rushing outside to catch up with his brother in law.

**

He waited for several moments leaning onto his car staring up at her window, her bedroom illuminated with a soft light, making her presence evident but there was no sign of her whatsoever. With his patience running out or rather not quite cooperating, he stood straight abruptly, hitting the sole of his shoe in the wet mud as he released another frustrated sigh, he walked in quick strides towards her door.

He hesitated for a moment, remembering to keep it calm, but when he heard a sudden sound of a glass being smashed from inside, all of his anger- control-therapies went flying away into thin air and he found himself banging her door vigorously. He waited not more than a few seconds, before banging on the wooden door again. He lifted his hand yet again after a few moments only to hear a small sound of the door knob and his hand stilled in air turning into a fist and rested on the door frame waiting for her to open the door.

The door clicked opened but was held by a chain clutching the door to the frame. Arnav stepped to his side to look into the little opened space, just in time when her face popped causing him to lock his gaze instantly with that of her bewildered ones.

"Arnav----------"

"What happened?" he spoke urgently with his hand tugging at her door, his eyes pouring out the tension in his mind as she just looked up blankly.

"Huh?"

"I heard the sound, what the hell happened?" he said trying to look above her into the little hall way.

"The glass pot broke, but Arnav----"

"How?"

"I bumped into---"

"Are you okay?"

"What the hell is going on here Arnav, what are you doing here, at this time?" she asked her voice rising by a few syllables causing him to finally shift his attention back to her and for the first time since he arrived, he took in her complete attire. Her hair was wet, sticking to the sides of her face, she was still wearing the same outfit from the evening, water droplets from it dipping to the ground, her eyes red and with her eye-lashes holding the traces of tears and her voice hoarse resembling that of a sick person. His insides suddenly twisted with unknown emotion and he squeezed his eyes shut, trying to push away the sudden rush of uneasiness.

"khushi, I-----" and she sneezed causing him to eat his further words with his anger surfacing yet again.

"What the f-------- Khushi why the hell haven't you changed your clothes yet?" he snapped impulsively causing her to arch her eye-brow.

"What???" she asked incredulously and his anger only increased by her nonchalant behavior. "Arnav just leave, I'm tired----" she added nodding her head and trying to close the door, only to be held by his hand forcibly.

"What are you doing?"

"What are you doing Khushi, why did you leave like that suddenly, I was looking for you!"

"Why shouldn't I leave? It was not like I was needed there anyway?"

"Khushi, just listen to me-------"

"--------who am I to intrude a family time Arnav?" she asked cutting him off, her hazels looking up at him sharply, but he couldn't quite see the accusation in her eyes, rather what he saw was innocence, pure innocence filled with inferiority complex. At that very moment he felt like grabbing her into his arms and just let her know, how special she is and something tightened inside his heart at the very thought.

"Khushi, let me in, we can talk, it's not what you think------"

"I don't think anything Arnav, leave me alone, please-----"

"No, Khushi, you don't understand, my sister had a misunderstand that I------"

"I know!!" she cut him off again and he noticed her voice breaking. He swallowed the sudden lump formed in his throat his mind processing that this isn't just about a stupid misunderstanding and suddenly he found himself even more disoriented.

"You know?" he more or less whispered, his voice low heavy with the sudden wave of emotions up into his throat.

"Yes Arnav, it's quite obvious, I know Sheethal isn't interested in you that way and for all I know your sister was trying to play a prank and it's alright, I'm fine with it, if that's what brings you here, I'm fine Arnav, really, I was cold and just wanted to get out of these wet clothes which is why I had to leave-------"

Her blabber was stuck in her throat as she processed his look that travelled down her wet clothes and she just looked on, her eyes starting to wet, her nose shivering, her shoulders slumping as if giving in to his boring sharp gaze and she looked down, suddenly tired of everything. "Please believe me Arnav, Its perfectly okay with me, I'm not affected by the announcement----" she spoke not meeting his eyes, her voice clearly breaking, causing him to wince inwardly.

"Open the door Khushi------" he demanded, his no-nonsense voice resuming. She then looked up, her hazels filled with the clear crystals resembling that of pearls, dropping down those wide eyes, filling in her face and all he could do, behind that door was to just look on, helplessly and desperation filling in his nerves with every passing second.

"Seriously Arnav, it doesn't matter really; it doesn't matter even if you've never mentioned to your sister that we have met before, even if you never spoke to her about me, even if you ask your brother-in-law to keep me as a secret-------"

"-------Khushi I was only trying to save you from her annoying curiosity about every girl I meet--"

"It doesn't matter, really, that I don't really exist for people so much that everyone can just turn oblivious of my presence-----"

"No Khushi---------"

"Oh no no! it didn't give me the feeling that you are ashamed of me, never, it doesn't matter really!"

"--------Ashamed?? Where did that come from?" he exclaimed incredulously and she closed her eyes shut letting those droplets fall from her eyes and nodded her head vigorously.

"It would only come if we are an entity; oh wait what are we Arnav?"

"Khushi, this is insane! Just open the damn door and let me in!"

"Why?" she whispered with her tear strained voice.

"Stop crying Khushi, just let me in, for heaven's sake!!! Let's talk like two civil people!"

She continued to nod her head to and fro even as he was speaking, clutching her one hand to the door just below where his hand resided as she looked up to meet his honey orbs those were filled with such heavy layers of concern, it only caused her to let out that bitter laugh, as she rested her head to the door frame still holding the eye-contact with him. He looked on, his eyes pouring out desperation, even as his gaze roamed over every feature of her face and he winced inwardly taking in her tortured look.

"What is it Arnav? Why are we here? What the hell are you doing here Arnav?" she spoke her voice barely a whisper and her eyes helplessly communicating volumes with that of his; & all he wanted to do was reach out and wipe away all those tears until there wouldn't be any more left.

"Please open the door khushi" he just said, his hand reaching out to tenderly touch her fingers that were clutching at the door. She then looked between their tangled fingers and his eyes sighing yet again.

"You don't need this" she whispered.

"That's for me to decide dammit! Open the damn door!" he more or less yelled causing her to squirm even as she moved away from the door breaking their little hand contact.

"NO!!" she protested.

"Why?" he asked desperately.

"Because, you are right! You are right about everything Arnav, you don't have to keep up with me, I would only continue to torture you more Arnav, please understand, I can't put you through all this and you should leave right now!" she wailed.

"You can do much better than wasting your time trying to figure me out every second; you can definitely do, much much better than helping me overcome my fears, Arnav and obviously you can do as much better as Sheethal! Why would someone even think of me, when you have a perfect, no-nonsense, successful girl---------"

"Will you f**king stop this Khushi!" he yelled as loud as he could enough to alert the whole of near by vicinity if there really was any.

"Come here" he ordered as she just looked on, standing a step away from the door too paralyzed with his yelling to even move a nerve in her body. "Come here Khushi!" he said amidst his gritted teeth and she finally moved, closing the distance between them, standing by the gap in the door again, causing him to instantly hold her hand gasping it inside his, as he struggled to peep through the space more, to have a complete look at her.

"You are one hell of a feisty, stubborn, messed up woman, do you know that?" he said his voice suddenly hoarse with overload of tangled up feelings. She just looked on, too much affected by his weird rage to react. "Just let me in Khushi, talk to me I promise, everything will be alright. You are doing such great job dealing with all of it alone, but its time you let someone in Khushi, help you get through this and I'm really really willing to be that someone-----"

"Why?" she found herself asking the same three word question which held such deeper meanings and the word could only add to his impatience.

"I don't know okay??" he snapped yet again, quite honestly. "I just want to, I don't know why, I just want to----"

"And what if you would not want to later on?" she asked and for the first time since he arrived, he went dead silent not really having a confident answer for that. She waited for another couple of moments, looking up at him earnestly and hopefully, but all he could do was stare at her with the familiar uncertainty creeping in.

"Do we have a name for what's between us Arnav?"

He didn't answer and she knew that's the exact area she can call herself knowledgeable than him. She knew somehow he doesn't believe in the term that could be summed up of what was going between them. She, knew, yes, but knew better than to let that feeling over power her, because today was such an eye-opener to her.

So much for letting the dreamy girl in her take over her impulses and even overpower her harsh reality, owing to her even harsher past.

Even as the thought ruminated back in her mind, she felt herself go still as she withheld her hand from his and she abruptly took a step away, as if horrified. She turned around, as if in daze pinning herself to the half opened door causing him to curse again, as she slid against the door, breaking down as tears continued to pour down from her eyes.

"You might just hate me------"

"----Khushi don't do this, please open up!" he banged the door helplessly hearing her little sobs, finding his own voice suddenly dry and his eyes turning wet------ a complete foreign emotion for as long as he could remember.

"You--- you might never want to see me again!"

If just hearing her cry was proving to be sheer torture for him, not being able to reach out to her, the door in between them acting as such insane barrier is only adding to his frustration. Finding himself helpless yet again for the umpteenth time tonight, he held the almost closed door with both of his hands going above his head as he rested his forehead on the surface of the door, trying to feel her---------"Khushi----" he uttered desperately.

"I can't take that look in your face, when you would know Arnav, I just can't take it----" she continued to cry.

"No Khushi-----"

"Arnav I------" not being able to utter anything else, with her tired eyes, exhausted out mind, she broke down into another peals of sobs, with the pain continuing to engulf her. & he just stood there at the other end of the door, listening to her sobs rather helplessly.

**

Today, as she stood there, trying to overcome her fears of his proximity, even as he voiced his questions, she realized she might not be able to overcome her fears and not any sooner and that only made her think, he really didn't have to put up with her...

Today, as she stood there, with his sister announcing his marriage to her best friend as well, she realized the irony of her whole situation. Anjali, though being quite unaware of her past, somehow with her silly prank, in her own way communicated to her that someone like Khushi is not just unwelcome but also unaccepted into their family. Yes, nothing was literal, but Khushi wasn't delusional either---she thought. She could easily see the same kind of situation arising again when her past will be revealed and if only there was a future with Arnav, the accusation was quite evident to her and she realized yet again, he didn't need this.

Today, as she walked back home, in her wet clothes, alongside the beach with the images of their little proximity fresh in her mind, she wondered, it had been so long that she had felt beautiful----in a good way, so long that she had felt wanted----in a positive way, so long that she lived a moment not caring the world around her, so long that she have actually done what her heart asked her to do without thinking of submerged fears------- and the entire beauty of the feeling she had experienced, she could only owe it to him. But then what did he get in return?

She is a mess, yes and a person with complexities. All these days, she have only learnt to live with them, not troubling others, live with her messed up mind and complexities and accept them even so that she could live her days peacefully and sleep through her nights without nightmares. She wasn't prepared for a foreign feeling to intrude her own mess. But it did, without her mere concern and it was fine until and unless it just involved an imaginary feeling. But when the mere imagination started taking a shape, even bringing hopes with it, she found herself lost and drowning down deep into a tangle of uncertain web.

But today it was more like opening eyes to the morning after a beautiful dream. Reality does hit hard and she realized she didn't have any right to let him deal with her mess. She was a mess herself, how would she ever allow someone, someone who she probably lov--------- she didn't even know if she still holds any right to even utter that word, but all she knew was she couldn't do this, whatever it was, any longer. He needs to be set free; she couldn't put him through this torture.

Just as the thought crossed her mind, she dried her eyes from the remains of tears as she hiccupped the last traces of her sobs, resembling that of a child, while he pressed his ear more to be able to listen to her, he finally heard the clicking of the door and he straightened anticipating to see her finally and properly.

She stood there, behind the opened the door in the entrance, her face red with the ample of crying, her eyes puffy and her wet attire even more disoriented and she looked at him with such finality in her stance, it made him flinch all of a sudden.

He stepped forward instantly holding her by her neck and roughly bringing her face close to that of hers in a swift moment, and she just continued to stare into her eyes flickering them a little.

"Don't do this Khushi-------" he said with his one hand drying her face completely even as his face wandered all over her features. "This...this... Scares me!" he said continuing to wipe her tears, referring to them.

"It is best to hold on to a good memory and cherish rather than extend the time and ruin what one can have----"

"I'm really not in my right minds for your weird philosophies Khushi, just stop crying please!" he begged.

She then extracted both of his hands into hers, causing them to move away from her face even as he observed their hands intently, she clasped both of his hands into his and she looked up her eyes twinkling with shimmers, her lips curving up into a bitter earnest smile.

"Arnav?" she whispered, finding her voice even more croaked than it was initially.

"Yes Khushi?" he searched her eyes.

"I really did have the best time of my life these past few days, and I want to hold on to these memories----" not ruin them was the unsaid part of the sentence and he instantly knew what her weird philosophy meant. As a impulsive action, he held her face yet again, vigorously pulling her face close, his lips hovering over hers, his eyes almost closed, his fingers caressing the area at the end of her both the eyes.

"Khushi----" he just said wandering his gaze between her eyes and her lips, the decision hanging in between them already being processed in his mind, as he tied to picture completely into his senses.

"I heard you are off to a business trip tomorrow?"

"I, uh----" was planning to come back, was the unsaid answer, but he just looked on earnestly, the message behind her question silently passing between them.

"I had the best time Arnav..." she said again, causing him to tug at her hair, even as he found himself angling his face, ignoring her trembling self completely, his lips inching closer to that of hers, his breathing fanning the place between her nose and her lips, his hand diving deep into her hair, and before he could drown into that very familiar daze, he snapped a look into her eyes, to find them determined and holding the same finality he have witnessed earlier.

His jaw clenched, his free hand turned into a fist as his other hand withheld itself from behind her head, and he turned his head away abruptly, leaving her alone on the porch and Arnav Singh Raizada walked away from Khushi, yet again------- this time quite unwillingly.

---Edited---

And finally Anjali gets the entire idea! While it's a sad thing she doesn't get what they mean, it wasn't entirely her fault either. (Okay it was 98%, there was something called confirmation!) She wanted to set up Arnav and Sheetal, giving the much required "push", but, when has she been non-delusional?
That was quite an outburst of Arnav! Poor guy,he was already frustrated with what Khushi held for him and now all of this has taken a toll over his head!

Inferiority complex...that is what every other girl feels in love! Khushi, with whatever her past has offered her to where she stands today, is a much matured woman but is held back by a certain force and, yet she finds herself drawing towards Arnav, how much ever resistance she offers! Quite complicated!

I would love to see where this takes them! Somewhere I feel this is not just about their love story but something larger than that!

*sigh* That door scene was sheer brilliance. Painful and beautiful!

And at the end, what you've beautifully summed up the events of the story lined with Khushi's feelings and innermost doubts and confusions, hesitance and uncertainties, I just wonder why I am your reader! Hell, you deserve more! Much more and much better!

I hope there isn't a major separation dammit! Aur kitna sataogi hame? Waise, I am loving this! Romance, suspense and heartaches!

Beautifully penned down once again!

P.S: I love philosophy, (as weird as it may sound!)
P.P.S: Yes, I do know I am awfully late! Sorry!
