Asad Ahmed Khan
Top of his class since first standard, Asad is brilliant and hardworking. Always getting the highest in his classes, very all rounded. Very cultural and traditional. Needless to say, everyone has great expectations from him. And Asad, intends on living up to these expectations. He strives for excellence and is a soft person at heart, especially to the ones he cares deeply for. He might come off as a tough guy but all know that he loves his friends and family dearly. He is independent and has the urge to succeed. He's that funny, good looking guy any girl might be swooning over. His personality is to die for; his humor never fails, except of course when you get on his bad side. He hates and gets angry venomously, and when he does, no one can stop him. His judgment and logic go to hell, and he acts impulsively and aggressively. His character takes a turn at times, in which this side of him is highlighted. What most don't know though is that this is just one side to him. His insecurities and fears never reach the surface. Family issues have affected him and his mindset. He has that nothing can hurt me attitude and wills himself to become better each day than he was the day before. He wants to make a difference. He wants to make a change. He believes in good and bad. He believes that everyone is either good or bad. His zeal for life and learning and education has made him reach high and in his teenage/young adult days, he eventually he goes abroad to study. Whether it's in his brown daring eyes, his black soft hair, his tall and muscular body or his good looks and success, Asad seems to highlight perfection. He aims for perfection and no mistakes. He hides his fear of making the same mistakes of his father by showcasing all the good and success he has rendered. He strongly believes in love and the institution of marriage, despite issues between his parents. He believes everyone is different and though he may be fearful, he believes that he will have his happy ending too. There is, has and will always have one girl in his life since he were a child. At different points in life, their relationships take different turns but at the end of each day, even if he denies, there is a place in his heart for her that no one can ever replace In all that he does and all that he is, no matter how much time has passed, how much numbing and ignorance he indulges in, every day she crosses his mind. That space in his heart grows larger by the day. Even if it's filled with hate.
Zoya Farooqui
Always bubbly, cheery, funny and the top counselor of her class. Anyone who has problems can go to Zoya, and somehow or the other, she always has a solution. She would do anything to make someone smile. She is extremely emotional and has a soft heart. And this is her passion. Helping others. Making others life. Sacrificing for others. Loving others for who they are, ignoring the bad and appreciating the good in people. Besides cooking and baking that is. She is often described as "too nice and nave" but she is very clever and understanding of her surroundings, it's just that she has makes the extra effort to make all things well. She hates fights and tries to solve any fights occurring around her, to resolve any problems her friends have. She knows that she can't do it for herself, so she makes it her goal to fix everyone else's problems. Really, she is very loving and kindhearted. She forgives easily. Intelligent and diligent, Zoya makes her family proud. Her goal is to make others happy, because she herself knows what sadness is. During her teenage, nearing adulthood years, she looses her parents. She may seem strong and as though she's very happy with her life, but underneath she hides her pain and struggle. To anyone, she's the happiest person in the world, but like everyone else, she has her problems. Her emotions however show up only when she feels for another person, but when it comes to herself, she tries to bury things deep inside. Beautiful, with long dark hair and large glossy light brown eyes, any guy would be chasing after her. Her niceness is often taken by guys for interest. She is carefree and has the mentality to live each day to the fullest. And though she may be excelling in her studies, she rather be excelling as a good person at heart and puts everyone else before herself. A large heart, needless to say, when she loves, she loves with every ounce she has. She knows who the one she is supposed to be with is, and has all her life wanted him. Her love for him can't die, no matter how much she tries, no matter how much distance is between them. Even if she claims to not love him, and that she no longer has feelings for him and detests him, faith and destiny might just be out to challenge her.
Ayaan Ahmed Khan
Brother of Asad, Son to Rashid and Dilshad Ahmed Khan. Love interest of Humeira Farooqui. He is very outgoing and funny. He is strong in his studies but not as determined and passionate as Asad. He is less intense and more carfree than Asad. He is a good friend to Zoya and often helps her with matters concerning Asad. He is an ideal brother, and can do anything for the happiness of Asad. He meets with Humeira and both become best friends. He later realizes he is in love with her.
Humeira Mohammed
Best friend of Zoya since childhood, love interest of Ayaan. She knows Zoya inside out, and knows everything Zoya tries to ignore. She has always been with Zoya through every step of their lives. She is fun and crazy and loved by all. She befriends Ayaan. She falls for Ayaan while trying, with his help, to patch up things between Asad and Zoya
Rashid Ahmed Khan
A powerful businessman, one of the most influential in Bhopal. Tends to be submissive and has made mistakes which have affected his family. Father of Asad and Ayaan Ahmed Khan, husband of Dilshad Ahmed Khan. Loves his family dearly, and after issues in the past he tries to make things better once again. He cheated on his wife and since has an ongoing battle with Asad due to his mistakes, and also constantly tries to persuade him to join his company. Eventually Asad pursues his dreams and goes abroad to study, turning a deaf ear to Rashid. He cares for Zoya as his own daughter.
Dilshad Ahmed Khan
Mother of Asad and Ayaan, wife of Rashid. Pure at heart, always forgiving. Loves her children dearly and her husband too, despite their differences. She is a teacher, at Bhopal's Elementary school, to which her boys also attended. She is/was friends with Zoya's mother who also teaches at the school. She is very affectionate towards Zoya.
Rehaan Farooqui
Father of Zoya, husband of Zainab. Loves his daughter dearly. He has marriage issues, which surface ever so often. Fights upon fights including violence. He and Zainab try their best to keep their marriage in one piece, especially because of the effect it has on their daughter.
Zainab Farooqui
Zoya's mother. She is kind and caring, does anything for her daughter. She is a teacher at Bhopal's Elementary School and is good friends with Asad's mother and father
Anwar and Zeenat Farooqui
Zoya's aunt and uncle, neighbor of Asad's family. She stays with them for a period of time after her parents pass away. Both love her dearly.

Most important and occurring characters are listed. Two of which play a part at the beginning, and pass away during the course of the story. Other characters may be introduced, but not as essential and main characters. Some characters may undergo changes, ie, character sketches are not definite throughout the entire story, as this story is about mainly the journey of Asad and Zoya from childhood to adulthood, hence there will obviously be certain changes due to changing times and circumstances.
