New Delhi: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has taken to Twitter to spread awareness about the importance of registering the names of young 'unregistered voters' between the age group of 18-24 years. He asked prominent personalities on Twitter to encourage youngsters to register their name in the voter's list.
Studies point to several 'eligible' voters who are yet unregistered. Are you one of them? Now is the time to get registered ASAP! read his tweet.
The team is trying to use the fan base of celebrities active on micro-blogging website, Twitter to mobilise support for registering voters.
Modi urged prominent people on social media to promote registration of young 'eligible' voters who are yet unregistered.
"I request prominent voices on social media to promote voter registration among youngsters & strengthen our democracy," read a tweet on his account.
The idea involves tagging Twitter handles of prominent Twitter personalities, from television actors to Prime Minister's Office (PMO), to spread the awareness about the importance of registering voters.
For example, one of the tweets address to His Holiness The Dalai Lama read, "Respected @DalaiLama lets encourage voter registration among 18-24 yr lds. Large number of them unregistered. EC drive presently underway."
Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Sri Sri Ravishankar, Salman Khan, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, Sushma Swaraj are some others of the names tagged along with the message.
