Importance of Phata Poster Nikhla Hero for Shahid Kapoor

When Shahid Kapoor made his debut about a decade ago with Ishq Vishq, a film that won him the FilmFare Award for Best Debut Male, he was hailed as the next complete entertainer', a future superstar in the making. He showed promise as an actor, was good looking and had excellent dancing skills.

But unfortunately when we look back upon his career, Shahid has featured in 19 films, and only 3 of those (Vivah, Jab We Met and Kaminey) have worked at the box office. In spite of his good performances, some of his recent films haven't done well. Moreover his career pales in comparison with some of his contemporaries like Ranbir Kapoor and even Imran Khan who has quite few hits to his credit.

• Teri Meri Kahani (Flop) - 27.49 crores
• Mausam (Flop) - 31.50 crores
• Milenge Milenge (Flop) - 8.6 crores
• Badmaash Company (Above Average) - 33.2 crores
• Chance Pe Dance (Flop) - 10.4 crores

** Paathshala' was excluded as the film's limelight wasn't on Shahid Kapoor, even though the film was also a below average grosser (11.3 crores).

Thus it is evident that Shahid is desperately in need of a clean hit. With Phata Poster Nikala Hero set to release on 20th September, Shahid must be eyeing a smashing comeback. The trailer, released on the 14th of July, has already garnered 3.5 million views on YouTube. The music by Pritam' has also been steadily climbing the charts.

With an experienced director like Rajkumar Santoshi (also credited for films like Ghayal, Andaz Apna Apna, Khakee and Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani ) at the helm, Phata Poster Nikhla Hero looks promising and could well be Shahid's first success in a long long time.

The film's genre is favourable (action comedy) and the release date isn't bad either, as PPNH will get a open run for 12 days till Besharam'. Here's hoping the talented actor gets his due this time around and the film is a massive success at the box office!
