Chapter Sixteen:
A Feelings Test
As always, Khushi was loyal to her work; she spent every minute with Muskaan not leaving her for one. Muskaan was very happy to be again with Khushi. For her, Khushi was more than a nanny, more than a habit as they are always together. Khushi turned to be an important part in the little girl's life.
Khushi noticed the change in Arnav's behaviour with her; just two weeks ago, they went out together on a beautiful priceless Sunday...they had fun, he also gifted her a bag, he actually joked with her and tried his best to be a friend with her. She was wondering what could be the reason behind the sudden change. Yes, he acts well with her and does not hurt her, but he is not the last weeks' Arnav. Khushi was lying on the bed beside an asleep Muskaan thinking of how to tell Arnav about her leave after seven days. She did not know how would she start as she recalled the call she had with Arnav when she wanted to ask about Muskaan on a Sunday she spent with her maasi and cousin; she had not expected him to be so frustrated. Suddenly se realized that since that call he was acting a little weird...she could not help but to think more about it. Did he feel embarrassed so he is trying to avoid such a situation again by changing with her? Or there was something else she did not know?
A knock on the door made Khushi conscious of her surroundings. She sat on the bed recognizing it to be Arnav's. After all, she was used to the way he knocks...actually it was not the only thing Khushi could recognize; she could distinguish his fragrance... his footsteps. That was not the suitable time to think of what she is able to recognize when it comes to The Raizaada Man as he entered the room and greeted her.
"Hello,"
"Hi, It's so early..." Khushi looked at her watch which showed Five o'clock.
"It's Saturday...I did not have that much work to do." He interrupted Khushi.
"So..may I leave or not?" Khushi wondered.
"You can leave." Arnav said plainly. He was tired of making decisions every now and then. Khushi stood up and turned to the door before she stopped remembering what she had been thinking about.
"Arnav Ji... I was wondering if I can take a break from Friday to Sunday on the next week."
"May I know why?"
"My sister's engagement will be on the coming Saturday, so I'm leaving to Lucknow on Friday."
"Alright. Congratulations."
"Thank you. I've told you today because I'm having all the day tomorrow for planning and shopping. I'm leaving now. Bye." Khushi bent down to kiss Muskaan's cheeks before leaving. Arnav felt happy as Khushi left...because he wanted a distance and she was giving it to him without him taking any decision.
On Sunday, Khushi went for shopping. She bought a pink lehenga for the ceremony. She also called her family to inform them about her plans. She called her friends on Lucknow to ask them to rehearse on some songs. She really had a busy day as she wanted to get everything ready on time as it was the only day for her to think and do being busy the rest of the week with Muskaan. The next days passed like the previous ones with Arnav and Khushi talking less than ever, Khushi taking a good care of Muskaan. Nani sensed some silence at the house lately especially when they have their meals. Now sitting on the dining table for the meals did not seem enjoyable as before and Nani longed to those days...days when her Chhote seemed to be different..when Khushi was more lively...when RM looked alive.
On Friday, Arnav returned home early as he left Muskaan with Nani, and he did not want to trouble her. He tried his best not to think of a certain one because he wanted to prove to himself that he is right ..that he does not have feelings for Khushi. On the other hand, Khushi was singing and dancing, but she could not forget to miss a particular someone for a moment. That did not stop Khushi from having a little fun; she had teased her jiji a lot and she was planning to do the same with her jijaji. She spent half of the day with her friends practicing for the occasion. After all, her sister was going to get engaged, and it was her responsibility to make the day memorable and special.

"Aman, What crap is this? I want the file's of the last deal we had with RK's industries right now. Send me Akaash." Arnav was angry.
"ASR, Why are you so tensed today? You just start shouting with no reason."
"Not your business, Aman. Just inform Akaash what I've told you."
"Have you forgotten? Today is Akaash's engagement party. He is on a leave." Aman said. Akaash Malhotra was one of the best employees at AR that's why he would work on Saturdays with some important employees at AR industries.
"Oh!" Arnav sighed. "Okay. Ask Lavanya to make a get me a report about the deal in an hour. Quickly."
"Why are you I a hurry today, ASR?"
"Just do what I'm telling you, Aman." Arnav was on one of his worst moods. It had been a long time since Aman saw him like that. As if he just could not hold his anger anymore. In the last two years, Arnav was more quiet than any time before, but now he looked as if he lost all the patience he had ever had. The whole day Arnav had been working as a machine without stopping for a moment because he did not want his mind to get a chance to think...to dream..to wish. He just wanted to blind his feelings, his thoughts and act nonchalantly, but it seemed that he could not hold himself anymore. Arnav sat on his chair and closed his eyes. He ran a hand through his hair and sighed to cool himself down.
'Today is Khushi's sister's engagement too! Khushi has mentioned before that the groom's name is Akaash. Could it be possible? He's from Delhi too! Maybe.' His mind diverted to the party thinking of singing, dancing, having sweets, laughing, clapping and everything people usually do. 'Khushi must be enjoying herself right now. She must be wearing a lehenga...how would it look on her? What if it is a red one? With a light make-up and her natural blush? With tinkling choodiyaan and payals? She will have a lot of jalebis!' He shook his head and grinned at his thoughts. He did not know before that he knows Khushi this much. He could not stop his mind from wandering around Khushi's thoughts. Arnav could not deny that he always thinks of Khushi for a long time...that she occupied his thoughts, but he could not admit that to anyone but himself, and he was sure that he would get rid of such fantasies. He is not a teenager who is up down in love with a school student. He was convincing himself.
Khushi had a dance with her friends on 'Radha' her new favourite song, then 'Desi Girl' She distributed sweets and lassi to the guest after that. She teased her jijaji a lot. She actually liked him for he is polite and handsome too. He looked a shy guy just like how her jiji is.
"You know what jijaji, you are perfect for each other. You look alike in many things." Khushi said aloud to Akaash and Payal as the music was very loud.
"I should leave now because I have a dance with Avinash," Khushi almost ran to search for Avinash. Avinash was very happy to get a chance to dance with Khushi. He and his mother accompanied Khushi and Madhumati Ji to Lucknow, so he got some time to talk with Khushi and be with her.
At night when Akaash and his family left, Khushi found Payal sitting on the bed lost in some thoughts; she put her head on Payal's lap -just like before.
"I really missed you, jiji." Payal caressed Khushi hair.
"I missed you too, pagli. No matter how wise you look Khushi, but you still the same lively girl. You have made my engagement a beautiful day."
"Jiji, jijaji is a good man. I'm sure he loves you. He will make you very happy. And he is lucky to have you too."
"I know. I'm really happy that you're here today with me."
"It's your day. How can I not be here for you?" Garima was coming to spend some more time with Khushi when she heard their conversation. The tears fell down from her eyes uncontrollably. Her daughters were the best ones ever...they they had been always there for each other. She remembered them as young girls when they were playing together and now they became adults; one is about to get married and the other works for her family. She wiped off her tears and stepped in the room; she sat between her daughters and hugged them close to her heart. She felt very proud of them.
Garima sat on the bed between her daughters and hugged them close to her heart. Khushi put her head on her mother's lap missing those feelings of security and safety. She told her Amma about her job in Delhi, and the people she works for. The three of them talked together for an hour before they went to sleep as they were very exhausted.
She was running with her knees becoming weak as she looked around for help, but no one was there for her. She was panting, the shadow of the man who wants to destroy her life was pursuing her, making her go numb. As is life was about to stop, to end. She was running and panting praying for a savior.
Just then two warm arms were wrapped around her. In the dim light, she could just see his protective chocolate brown eyes which made her relax. She heaved a sigh of relief and rested her head on her savior's chest feeling exhausted.** (Chapter Seven)
Khushi woke up terrified sweating very hard. The last time she saw this dream she just could see the brown eyes, but this time, she could recognize them; how could not she recognize the eyes she knows the most...she longs to see... the eyes which bewitched her with their depth...which speak of volumes. She closed her eyes sighing at the stirring of feelings she got. She did not know what she should conclude of such a dream. Khushi got up to have a cold shower to calm herself down. Once she was done with her shower, her Amma called her to have breakfast. Garima made sure to make Khushi's favourite dishes as Khushi would be leaving after few hours. Khushi thanked her Amma for making such a breakfast for her; she was happy to have her favourite dishes made by her Amma after a long time. Avinash and Rohini Ji joined them too.
"When will you leave, Khushi Bitya?" Shashi asked.
"At noon, Babuji. Me and Avinash have to be there for our work." Khushi replied hardly as her mouth was full of food.
The farewell was a sad affair for Khushi and her family. They did not have enough from her; they wanted to spend some more time with her, but she had to leave. Bua Ji hugged Shashi, Garima and Payal and wished them a life full of happiness. He said that she would come the next time for Payal's wedding and stay longer with them. Avinash wished Payal again with respect after all she was older than him, and he calls her Di. He always listen to Payal without arguing. He hugged Payal, and asked for the blessings of his massi and Shashi. Khushi could hardly stop herself from crying; she had to be strong for her family as she did not want them to be worried about her.
_________
As Khushi reached Delhi, her heart and mind thought of Arnav and Muskaan. She missed them a lot. She took Madhumati ji to her home then excused her saying that she wanted to see Muskaan. Bua Ji could not convince Khushi to wait till morning.

.
Arnav put an asleep Muskaan on the bed once he reached home. He opened his wardrobe to get a towel as he needed a shower. As he opened it, the fragrance of the jasmine filled his nostrils filling his mind with the memories of a sweet face...a cute smile..and a soft voice which described it to be intoxicating.
"Hari Prakaash...Hari Prakaash...Hari Prakaash," Arnav shouted calling him.
"Ji, Arnav Bhaiya," The poor man was panting as he ran quickly terrified for hearing Arnav shouting. He thought of what he had done lately, and he was sure that he had not done any wrong thing.
"Was Khushi here?" Arnav asked impatient for an answer.
"Yes. She came to see Muskaan, but she didn't fine her. I've told her that you took her out."
"What did she do?"
"She went to the garden and brought some jasmine then took them to your room. She sat there for some time then left. I've asked her if she wanted Khushi, and she said no. That's all." Hari Prakaash gave all the details to Arnav not wanting to miss anything.
"Okay. You can go now."
"Do you need anything, Arnav Bhaiya?"
"No, thanks."
Just then Arnav realized the effects Khushi has on his life; how he spent the last two days imagining what would happen if Khushi was there...remembering Khushi's deeds...and the reason behind him taking Muskaan out was Khushi as he remembered what she once told him.
'Your daughter needs to experience life as other kids do, Arnav Ji.'
'I don't know how Muskaan was able to live with you. Trust me she needs to see the world.'
That's for today. Hope you've liked it. I think it was long enough!
