This I'm dedicating to my sweet Tiffu bacha seeing as she's so depressed!!.....smile jaan!!😃

P.S. Not all parts will be as long and boring as this!😛

P.P.S. The name Sarika was taken from Sabs's FF - Wooing Bani Dixit!😳

Chapter 1: Introductions...

Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam
Tere Ho Gaye Hain Hum
Teri Kasam
Oh Ho Ho
Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam
Tere Ho Gaye Hain Hum
Teri Kasam

The song floated through a small radio and across the busy streets, crackling every few seconds as it merged with the hustle and bustle of late-night shoppers, college students and cries of shopkeepers, eager to find willing customers before they would have to pack up for the night.

Occasionally they would call out to drivers who showed even the least interest in the brightly coloured stalls, as their cars sped over the worn dirt tracks before zooming of to join others on the brightly lit roads of Mumbai, encountering large shopping malls, luxurious houses and well-built hotels as they entered the more lavish parts of the great city.

Many strayed from the roads to join others outside a magnificent house, every corner decorated tastefully as men dressed in suits and women adorned in jewels and designer labels stepped in to the beautifully lit hall; here to be a part of the owners celebration and happiness.

The sound of clattering glasses, cheerful chatter and elegant music reverberated across the whole house, fading away to a soft hum as it fell upon the staircase. Higher up, the building was festooned with French windows, rich curtains and soft carpets, the hallway lined with doors; each one leading to a different destination.

Behind one doorway, a frustrated cry could be heard…

"Stupid sari, couldn't uncle choose something simpler?"

Cursing under her breath, she pushed her waist-length hair away from her eyes and tucked it hastily behind her ear, before grasping fistfuls of the materials so as not to trip over; the last thing she needed was to fall flat on her face.

"Beta, are you ok?"

Startled at the sudden voice from the other side of the closed door, she whirled round as her mind hurriedly formed an appropriate reply.

"Urm, coming mama! I'll be there in 10 minutes!"

No response.

Clasping her hands together she pleaded to god. Please, please, please! She wanted to show she could do this and didn't need her mother helping her every step of the way.

"Ok beta, but hurry! Uday and Krishna are waiting."

She breathed a sigh of relief, the slight noise wading through the silence that had descended over her room, before the sound of her mothers heels clattering against the polished floor told her Kiran had finally gone to re-join the party.

Turning back to the problem at hand, she sighed and started unwinding the sari as she muttered to herself.

"Ok Bani, you promised you would wear a sari, and now there's no-one here to help you so you might as well get on with it without making a fuss."

Though she couldn't help 'waste of time and waste of material' slipping through her lips, accompanied by a number of other curses.

Sighing, she pushed one corner of the golden material into the waist of her petticoat, and after wrapping it around her waist once, slung the other end over her shoulder before attempting to do the fiddly pleats again.

Engrossed in her task, she was oblivious to the door opening soundlessly, allowing entry to her fianc who was content with leaning against the wall, arms crossed over his chest as his amused eyes followed her every move.

That is until her heel caught the hem of her sari and she stumbled ungracefully. Immediately he was by her side, his hands gripping her waist firmly as she jerked her head towards him, surprised to find the warm brown eyes she knew so well watching her carefully.

"Tarun!"

Bani blushed. Her voice had sounded more breathless than she had intended to.

Noting her flushed face, he grinned before pulling away the 'pallu' of her sari to reveal a miniscule blouse that revealed more than it covered – a generous amount of cleavage for example.

Shocked, Bani pushed him away.

"Tarun! What are you doing?"

"Helping you."

He replied simply, somehow managing to keep a straight face, though she could see the familiar glint in his eyes.

"Yeah, and you really know how to tie a sari!"

She retorted sarcastically as she watched him gather the material and bend down in front of her before starting to work on the pleats slowly; a look of utmost concentration on his face.

"There are a lot of things I can do sweetheart."

He drawled before flashing her a heart-fluttering grin.

But then he had always been like that, ever since college, ever since the first time they had laid eyes on each other. She still remembered how every girl would swoon over him while she herself remained unconcerned. Maybe that was what had caused them to become great friends despite the fact that they were so different.

Tarun was a flirt, someone who enjoyed life – and girls. Bani was practical, motivated only by the desire to learn and carve a name for herself in society.

Not surprisingly she was also organised and would spend most of her lunchtimes helping Tarun through his studies and making sure that he would pass year after year. In return he taught her how to sneak out through her bedroom window at night so that she could join him at late night parties with the rest of their college friends.

But he would never let her dance with someone she did not know and would suddenly become over-protective every time a guy would show the slightest interest in her.

It had, therefore, come as a surprise to her when after college he had suddenly announced that he would be continuing his studies in London.

How would he protect from every unknown guy on the planet? She had teased him at the airport.

His reply was a sudden kiss.

Not a peck on the lips, but a skilful exploring of her lips and mouth, which had thankfully gone unnoticed by his family.

During the four years that he had been away, Bani had kept in constant contact with his family until she had slowly become a permanent fixture in their house. Uday and Krishna – Taruns parents – had been blessed with three sons, but no daughter, and probably for this reason had welcomed Bani with open arms.

When she had seen Tarun almost a year ago at the airport, her first thought had been the kiss. Maybe it had been his too as after pulling her into a warm hug he had kissed her again, though this time it had seemed more expected.

The next six months had been spent brushing him of as he tried his best to woo her while she attempted to suppress the feelings which had arisen with that second kiss. But then he had proposed amongst a train full of people. It wasn't, if she'd admit, the most romantic destination for such an event. But he had looked so serious and so in love with her that she hadn't been able to refuse.

And now she was engaged to the one man that could make her heart skip a beat every time he looked at her.

Suddenly Bani was jolted out of her reverie as she felt the base of his thumb softly stroking the side of her waist.

"Tarun, behave!"

Swatting his hands away she carefully secured her pleats into her petticoat as he grinned and silently pinned the 'pallu' of her sari to her shoulder.

Finally finished, he perched his chin on her shoulder and engulfed her in his arms, smiling at the sight they made in the large mirror placed on the wall.

"You look beautiful"

He murmured against the nape of her neck before kissing her tenderly.

"Thanks to you"

She replied, smiling as his fingers caught the side of her waist and spun her around, pulling her close until she moulded against his body.

"Hmm, so don't you think I should get a reward."

Recognising the familiar glint in his eye, she grinned, revelling in the way his hands crawled stealthily up and down her back.

"Well I don't have any cash, but let me see what I can do"

Smiling seductively she looped her arms around his neck and pulled him slightly closer until his lips hovered directly above hers; her mouth curving into a slow smile as he gently kissed her left cheek, her right, her forehead, her nose, before brushing his lips against her mouth

"Ahem…"

Tarun groaned, burying his face in the warm depths of Bani's shoulder as she blushed, the movement causing the intruder to giggle.

"Rano, what will you take to leave us alone for five minutes?"

"Sorry jiju,"

She teased,

"Everyone's calling for Bani Di. Either I can take her down or bring everyone up here; your choice."

Lifting his face from the heavenly aroma of her tresses, Tarun straightened himself and glanced at Rano Dixit – his sister-in-law and Bani's only sibling.

He was momentarily surprised to see her dressed in a pale blue and lilac salwar suit, so different from the t-shirts, tank tops and comfortable trousers she insisted on wearing. Obviously Krishna Aunty had been busy.

"Wow Rano, you look beautiful!"

In response the 19-year-old simply rolled her eyes.

"Enough of the flattering, your brother already beat you to it! Now come on before I grow old."

Striding over to the two she wriggled in between them, breaking his hold over Bani's waist, before impatiently dragging them towards the staircase.

*****

"Nishikant, come here!"

Nishikant Dixit turned his attention away from the conversation he had been involved in and frowned at his wife who was clinging on to his arm, eager to drag him away from his business associates and lead him to another part of the hall.

"What is it Kiran?"

He asked in a slightly irritated manner, though his expression softened as he took in her smile, the smile that transported him back 25 years to the night he had first laid his eyes on her. Her beauty hadn't strayed far from the blushing bride she had been that day.

However Kiran was oblivious to her husbands' change of mood as she nudged him slightly, steering his gaze towards the large staircase where Tarun, Bani and Rano could clearly be spotted.

Nishikant obeyed dutifully, and was surprised at Rano's choice of clothes. His attention then moved towards Bani and he felt a surge of emotions inside him.

Dressed in a sari, laughter on her face and fingers interlocked with Tarun's as they made their way down the stairs, the truth finally sunk in. In a few weeks time he would give away his daughter to the man she loved the most, and from then on she would leave her life as a Dixit and start over as a Walia. His little girl had finally grown up.

He excused himself from Kiran who had been studying his face intently. Despite owning a handful of famous restaurants scattered across the richer parts of India and no doubt being very successful in business, her husband was a man of very little words and refused to show his emotions. Yet she could read him like a book and knew what he was feeling right now, because she had felt the very same emotions when she had first spotted her daughter emerging from the bedroom.

*****

"Happy Anniversary uncle!"

Uday turned at the sound of Bani's cheerful voice, his face breaking into a smile as he spotted her holding a large bouquet of flowers, which he promptly took from her hands.

"Thank-you Bani, your choice as always is wonderful."

"Which is why she chose me dad!"

Tarun added cheekily as Uday grinned.

"Ah, but that's where my daughter made one little mistake!"

Rano laughed and gave Uday a hi-5 as Tarun pouted.

"Bani, you look gorgeous!"

Bani barely had time to acknowledge the voice before she found herself in a flurry of bottle green satin material and a tight embrace.

"Hi aunty, and uh, happy anniversary!"

Krishna pulled away and beamed at Bani as she held her at arm's length, her gaze taking in the sari Bani was draped in.

"Uday, doesn't she look beautiful?"

Uday snaked his arm across his wife's waist and pulled her close.

"Yes, but not as much you!"

Rano and Bani burst into giggles, enjoying the rare sight of the stern businessman – owner of India's largest chain of hotels, amongst other things – flirting so freely with his wife, even though they were celebrating their 27th Anniversary!

"Urm Bani, let's dance"

Said Tarun hurriedly, obviously not enjoying the sight of his mother blushing and his parents gazing dreamily into each other's eyes, oblivious to the rest of the party.

*****

Bani peeked over Tarun's shoulder and grinned as she caught sight of her sister glaring at someone whose face she couldn't see, though she couldn't have mistaken that shock of wild black hair and 6"3 frame anywhere. Sahil, Tarun's 20 year old brother, was doing what he did best – annoying her sister.

They both studied at college together and whereas everyone knew about his feelings for her, Rano was the only one who chose to remain ignorant of them and had brushed of every flirtatious advance, stating that he annoyed her, though Bani knew her little sister secretly reciprocated his feelings.

At the moment it looked as if Sahil was asking her to dance, though when Rano looked as if she would accept, Bani caught sight of his devilish grin as he reached past her and took hold of someone else's hands who promptly pulled on to the dance floor.

Sarika Walia – also known as Sarru, Maa, Dadi and 'sexy' – was Uday's mother and despite her age was a round, cheerful woman, who thoroughly enjoyed teaming up with her youngest grandson and teasing Rano, along with being an avid Bollywood fan.

She was, at this moment dancing with Sahil merrily while Rano sulked in a corner.

"You know, it's rude to eye someone else when you're dancing with your fianc."

Bani averted her gaze from the rest of the party and slid her arms around Tarun's neck as her eyes fell on his face, which had been observing her keenly for the past few minutes.

"Sorry Tarun, I just kind of…"

Tarun cut her of, a small grin escaping from his lips as his hands circled her waist.

"Sorry won't do Miss. Dixit, every mistake has its punishment."

"Really,"

Bani replied, tilting her head to one side whilst raising her right eyebrow.

"And what would that be?"

"I thought you'd never ask."

His words were a soft murmur against her lips and the sweep of his thumb gently caressing her cheek sent a slight blush to her cheeks.

Finding it hard to breathe normally in such close proximity with him, she closed her eyes and tilted her head upwards slightly, her fingers running through his hair as she felt his warm breath grazing her skin.

Suddenly she jumped at the abrupt sound of his mobile.

Cursing softly, Tarun turned away and impatiently fished out his mobile from one of his pockets before kissing her on the forehead and leaving to attend the call in quieter place.

Once he had made it through the rest of the dance floor and disappeared somewhere behind the large doors leading to the garden, Bani shifted her gaze towards the rest of the party, all the time checking to make sure that everything was going smoothly.

After instructing the waiters to lay the food she had been about to join her parents and Uday uncle when someone at the doorway caught her eyes. Turning slightly in order to get a clearer view of the entrance, Bani frowned as she took in the stranger.

It was a young girl, probably around the same age as her with dark brown hair that swirled around her waist as she turned right and left, presumably looking for someone. Her casual jeans, t-shirt and the jacket draped across her arm told was enough to inform Bani that the girl wasn't here for the party.

Curious, Bani carefully made her way through the swarm of the guests, forced to stop every so often in order to exchange pleasantries with various associates.

Finally managing to detach herself from a particularly enthusiastic aunty, Bani turned towards the door again, only to find the girl gone.

However before Bani could ponder over the stranger Rano pulled her away and in a few minutes she found herself back in the comfortable setting of her family; talking, teasing and laughing with the rest.

Said Tarun hurriedly, obviously not enjoying the sight of his mother blushing and his parents gazing dreamily into each other's eyes, oblivious to the rest of the party.

Sarika Walia – also known as Sarru, Maa, Dadi and 'sexy'ahahahha – was Uday's mother and despite her age was a round, cheerful woman, who thoroughly enjoyed teaming up with her youngest grandson and teasing Rano, along with being an avid Bollywood fan.

She was, at this moment dancing with Sahil merrily while Rano sulked in a corner.

"You know, it's rude to eye someone else when you're dancing with your fianc."lolz!
