Finding Fanny Fernandes is an English / Konkani satirical short film, directed and written by Homi Adajania and produced by Saif Ali Khan's Illuminati Films. Naseeruddin Shah, Deepika Padukone, Arjun Kapoor, Dimple Kapadia,Pankaj Kapur and Boman Irani will feature in prominent roles. The film is based on a road trip set in Goa and follows the journey of five characters.[1]
Five dysfunctional Goans set off on a road trip in search of an old postman's childhood love, Stefaine "Fanny" Fernandes, though nobody knows whether she's alive or dead or just a figment of someone's imagination. However, the friends get lost, and the journey that is supposed to take 20 minutes unexpectedly takes one and a half days instead.
Homi Adajania had finished writing the script of Finding Fanny Fernandes by 2009, 4 years after his first directorial venture Being Cyrus released.[2]However, casting for the film became an issue as it was an offbeat short film. Dinesh Vijan had suggested against making the film, advising Adajania that "you are going to make a Hinglish film which only 10 people will see."[3] Hence, Adajania postponed the film and went on to direct Cocktail instead. During the shooting of Cocktail, his narration of the story to lead actress Deepika Padukone had impressed her, and she expressed her desire to be a part of the film.[4] In May, 2013, Padukone and Arjun Kapoor were signed in leading roles.[5] The film also stars Naseeruddin Shah and Dimple Kapadia, who have earlier featured in Being Cyrus, as well as Pankaj Kapur.
The film is scheduled to begin shooting in October, 2013
its amusing when ppl use accents as a measure of competency in English...
fluency has more to do with your confidence and command over the language and its grammar in impromptu situations...it has nothing to do with accents...I have professors at university ranging from german to indian to arab to chinese to australian to british to Canadian and they all have different accents when they speak English. But that does not mean they aren't proficient with it. Accents are part of who we are and where we grow up. There is no absolute accent which is considered universally right for speaking english.
