Salman 'Khan't control the crowd!
By: Upala KBR

Salman Khan
On Friday, Salman Khan was in Sharjah to inaugurate a store for Red Tape shoes in Safeer Mall, when a crowd of over 35,000 people mobbed him!

Says an eye-witness, "The store was to be inaugurated by Salman at 8.30 pm, but crowds started gathering from 4 pm itself so that they could catch a glimpse of their favourite star."

Salman reached the mall around 8 pm but was unable to enter because a large crowd had blocked the entrance.

Says the eye-witness, "He was finally ushered in through a back door and taken to the store, which is on the first level of the mall. He was advised by the security to leave immediately after the formalities were through as the crowd was getting frenzied. When he was making his way out, the crowd outside mobbed him. The elevators were jammed and the crowd even broke down the store's shutters just to get a glimpse of him.

Even after Salman left, several people refused to believe this and a fight broke out in which several people were injured."

Showing their love!

Apparently, the situation got so out of hand that the mall security had no option but to get aggressive with the hysterical crowd. "Several people were knocked down and the security had to intervene.

According to reports in a local paper, the media was not spared either, as the security showered blows on them too. Showing their identity cards didn't cut any ice either as the staff simply refused to hear them out. Finally, Sharjah police had to be called in to manage the situation."

Govinda, who is currently shooting with Salman in Dubai for David Dhawan's Partner, confirms the incident, saying, "Though I didn't go to the mall, I heard that a huge mob had gathered and something had gone wrong. I was told there was a crowd of 70,000 people there. It became such a problem that they had to call the police and use teargas to disperse the crowd. Salman ko bahut pyar mila apne fans se."

Salman's brother Sohail adds, "Nothing happened to Salman; he wasn't hurt at all. There was a huge crowd and he did get mobbed, but they were just fans who had come there to see bhai (Salman) and show their love for him."

Khan ka daan

Sallu has done it again. Reportedly the actor-who-loves-to-hand-out-gifts handed out Rolex watches to several Sri Lankan cricketers at a dinner party organised in their honour, at his place

The Sri Lankan cricket team got a taste of the Khan brand of hospitality on Monday evening when Salim Khan invited several cricketers over for dinner at the Khan's home at Galaxy Apartments. An ardent cricket fan, the noted scriptwriter, along with his sons Salman and Arbaaz Khan and their wives, were seen receiving the guests. And the story goes that at the end of the delightful evening, the cricketers got a feel of the famous 'Salman Khan generosity', when Sallu gifted them each a Rolex watch.

Time, and again: Salman Khan

The Khans' guests included Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardane, Sanath Jayasuriya, Farveez Maharoof, Malinga Bandara and Nuwan Zoysa. The programme for the evening involved drinks and an informal dinner. Talking about the dinner, Salim Khan says, "It was a very private dinner. I had not really planned out anything as such. We're a bunch of cricket lovers and we just wanted to have our cricketers over."

So, what did they talk about? "I chatted up their captain Mahela Jayawardane and Sanath Jayasuriya. Other boys like Farveez Maharoof, Malinga Bandara and Nuwan Zoysa were also good to talk to. I've been closely following these boys on the cricket pitch for so long and finally, I met them. In fact, my entire family including my sons and their wives interacted with them."

Conversations veered from the international cricket scene to Salman Khan's shirtless act and even home-cooked biryani. Interestingly, the Sri Lankan cricketers have seen films penned by Salim Khan. And, of course, Salman's films are a favourite with them. Says Khan, "Just as I'm fond of watching these boys play cricket they also have seen our films. My son Arbaaz is particularly fond of the game. I used to wield the willow myself, about 10 years back."

He further adds, "Cricket is our religion. So when I get to know that they're in town I got in touch with them and expressed my desire to have them over for dinner company. Home-cooked food was served and they all seemed to have a good time."

We hear that cricketers have been regular visitors at the Khan residence. Informs Khan, "I have had the opportunity to meet all noted cricketers of the country. Dilip Vengsarkar has been a personal friend. So meeting cricketers has always been a pleasant experience."

Finally, when it was time to say good-bye, Sallu handed out Rolex watches to the cricketers. Sources reveal that the Khans have a tradition of handing out gifts to first-time visitors at the Khan household.

Salim Khan further adds, "We wished them luck as they left for Kolkata yesterday. I'm looking forward to the international one day that they're going to play with our men in blue."

After reading a post in the Bollywood Forum, I did some researching as I read about Salman and donating a bone marrow. The article is a bit old, but it is a very sweet article about Salman! One that I feel should be read!
--------------------------------------------------------
NGOs say Salman Khan is a kind-hearted man

MUMBAI: Salman Khan, who is in the midst of much bad publicity for his recent misadventures, has received support and prayers from an unexpected quarter — from several terminally ill children, with whom he spent time.

Three non-governmental organisations, working with ill children, have written to the press, noting the charitable and humane side of Salman Khan, one which has not been much publicised earlier.

Alka Kapadia, executive director of Cancer Patients Aid Association, said, "People may call him rude, arrogant, but we've seen a side of Salman that is humane, loving and caring.'' Salman often attended their functions and interacted with the children. Kapadia recounted a programme they had organised for around 250 terminally ill patients.

"Salman came with his entire family. He met each patient. And then he surprised us by donating a sum of Rs 13 lakh. We had no inkling about it. I know many stars do charity, but no one does charity like Salman Khan,'' she said.

"One day he came to us saying he wanted to donate bone marrow. He had read about how bone marrow could save cancer patients. And he wanted to do it, little realising that the operation is extremely painful. He wasn't bothered about the pain. We explained to him that you cannot donate bone marrow like blood. There is a complicated process involved. You can donate it only after the tissues of both the patient and the donor has been matched,'' Kapadia said.

Make-A-Wish Foundation of India, in a statement, said, "Every time we have called with a wish from a terminally ill child, Salman has gone out of his way to co-operate.''

The foundation recounted how a tenth standard student Apurva Agarwal, on meeting Salman, told him of his desire to join Jai Hind College. Some months later, the boy took seriously ill and expressed a desire to speak to Salman again.

Since Salman was not in city, the organisation left a message for him. In a short while, the patient got a call from Hyderabad, where Salman was. They chatted for 40 minutes.

Meera Limaye, co-ordinator for Ashray, an organisation which deals with children and women infected with AIDS, said, "We know him as someone who's very humane, caring and loving.''

"The first time Salman came here was when he had shaved his head. The kids went hysterical about him. He was so unlike a star. He spent a couple of hours with them. A child had a skin infection, but Salman took her on his laps and played with her. All the time he was here, he was squatting on the floor and playing with all the children,'' Limaye said, adding that Salman's charity was dignified and never publicised.

"All the children here are praying for him.''

SALMAN KHAN

In 'S' in Salman is very big and points downward. This clearly shows that he gives a lot of importance to himself and his physique. The 'S' goes so high that it looks like the alphabet 'o', which means he will be often misunderstood by others. In Salman the other alphabets are not legible and there is a slant to the right. This means he doesn't live in the present and is always concerned about the future. The other alphabets, like 'a' and 'n' are very small compared to 's', which shows that Salman has good mental power. The fact that he has not used his surname in his signature shows that he will always be alone and tense.

Salman donates 4.5 lakhs to cancer patient
By IndiaFM News Bureau, February 14, 2007 - 05:49 IST
Salman Khan has been the victim of muckrakers for years together. He has been infamous for knocking down pedestrians and shooting black bucks. However, there is a good side to the Bollywood actor that often goes unnoticed.

Recently, Salman donated Rs. 4.5 lakh for the treatment of a seven-year-old child stricken with cancer. Reportedly, he had made the donation almost two months ago; however, he did not intimate the media about it. On Saturday, February 10, Salman personally went to visit the child, Saugat Kunwar. Leaving his appointments aside in the afternoon, he paid a visit to his school. He attended the Annual Day celebrations of Children Welfare Centre High School and Clara's College of Commerce. He sat with Kunwar for about half an hour, and then exited quickly before the media arrived at the event. According to sources, Salman was not aware that the media had been invited to cover this event. But when he learnt this, he made a prompt exit. The school principal was quoted saying that Salman shelled out a huge amount without knowing the child, and that he genuinely cares for the less fortunate.

Salman recently gave an alluring performance in Nikhil Advani's Salaam-e-Ishq. The brawny actor will now be seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Saawariya and Rumi Jaffery's God Tussi Great Ho.

Salman's pyaar ki 'Saugat'

Salman Khan with Saugat and Ajay Kaul
Salman Khan has donated Rs 4.5 lakh for the treatment of a seven-year-old child stricken with cancer, called Saugat Kunwar.

The actor made the donation two months back without making a media spectacle out of the event.

On Saturday, Khan left shooting midway and attended the Annual Day celebrations of Children Welfare Centre High School and Clara's College of Commerce.

The principal, Ajay Kaul, had personally invited him. Salman sat with the child for about 20 minutes, and then made a quick exit before the media arrived at the event.

Not for publicity

A source says, "Before Salman reached the school, he learnt that the media had been invited to cover the event. He did not want his charitable gesture to be highlighted, so he came to the school about 90 minutes earlier than the scheduled time and left before the press could arrive."

This is not the first time that Salman has gone out of his way to help people in need, especially those stricken with cancer (See box).

Kaul confirms Salman's good deed and says, "We had invited Salman because we wanted to thank him. It was my first meeting with him and he is a nice person.

Without seeing or knowing the child, he shelled out such a big amount. He genuinely cares for the less fortunate."

Costly treatment

Although Saugat does not study in Children Welfare Centre High school and Claras College of Commerce, his parents had approached Kaul for financial assistance for their son's treatment.

Says Kaul, "Saugat is from Nepal. His treatment is going to cost anywhere between Rs 10-15 lakh. His parents have been running from pillar to post to collect the huge amount.

At our level too we have done our best to help Saugat. We have collected nearly Rs 4 lakh from the school and from other sources."

Explaining how they approached Salman, Kaul says, "Two parents Samad Khan and Tahir Sheikh approached him. They knew Salim Khan personally."

Sallu's bada dil

Salman Khan, along with his entire family, had attended a programme organised by the Cancer Patients Aid Association (CPAA) for 250 terminally ill patients.

The actor donated Rs 13 lakh for the cause. Khan had been in touch with the association to donate his bone marrow. He had read that bone marrow could save cancer patients, and so he wanted to donate his marrow, not realising that the operation was extremely painful.

The association had to explain him that he couldn't donate bone marrow like blood; there is a complicated process involved, which involves matching of tissues of both the patient and the donor.

Sallu's always available

Make-A-Wish Foundation of India inform that every time they have called Salman with a wish from a terminally ill child, the actor has gone out of his way to co-operate.

A tenth standard student Apurva Agarwal was seriously ill and expressed a desire to speak to Salman.

Since the actor was not in the city, the organisation left a message for him. In a short while, the patient got a call from Salman from Hyderabad. They chatted for 40 minutes.

Salman finally talking of marriage

New Delhi: Bollywood's evergreen bachelor Salman Khan is finally talking of marriage. But when he talks of tying the nuptial knot, he sounds completely resigned to his fate. The numerous romantic links with fellow Bollywood stars and top models and the breakups that followed seem to have left Salman a completely broken man on this front.

"I leave it in God's hands," he now says of marriage. "Whenever He will give consent, I'll get married. Things are not in my hand. Without His will, nothing happens," PTI quoted Salman as saying. Salman was in New Delhi for a promotional event on Wednesday.

Grill him further, and Salman turns more philosophical. "I believe He (god) controls all of man's decisions. I'm also waiting for his signal," he says.

Ever since the word was out confirming Bollywood beauty Aishwarya Rai's marriage with Abhishek Bachchan and the engagement that followed, the rumour mills are abuzz about the prospect of Salman finally readying to tie the nuptial knot. Salman was romantically linked to Aishwarya Rai for some time before the two broke up.

Even in his filmy career, Salman is trying for an image makeover. "I'll soon be doing an action film which will be a complete departure from my romantic image," he revealed
