Eid is the biggest holiday for Bollywood. It comes packed with a bunch of national holidays and the majority in India do not celebrate it, so they have nothing else to do. The people who do celebrate it are in celebratory mode and throng the theatres as well.
No surprise then, Dabangg, Bodyguard and ETT have been the biggest grossers of the last three years. All Eid releases. CE had a bonus in Independence day and Raksha Bandhan, this year. You can't wish for a better release date. That's 4 National Holidays in 2 weeks.
K3 and D3 are both bigger films, will likely have more hype and the sequel advantage and will gross huge but Diwali and Christmas can't compete with Eid, Independence Day and Raksha Bandhan all rolled into one. So will just fall short of CE.
CE record is safe until next Eid, when Salman reclaims his favorite release date.
