Khushi slowly opened her eyes and the first thing she saw was Arnav's face. She gasped and pushed herself away for not knowing how they ended up in the same bed. She held her face in embarrassment as she remembered that he was her husband. Removing her hand, she found him lazily staring at her. "Got scared?" He asked to which she shyly nodded her head. He reached out his large hand to clamp down on her arm before he jerked her towards him, in the cocoon of his arms. "It won't happen again," he said against her ear.
Khushi kept trying to bunch up the sheets to cover her but when she fumbled too much, he curled his fingers through hers to stop her, and rested their hands on her covered waist. "You're hiding yourself from your husband?"
She shook her head to allow him to go back to sleep since he did not sound awake at all. She remained silent for a few minutes as she listened to his breathing and his fluctuating chest. She turned her head slowly to gaze at his face. This man had done so much for her and everything he did or felt would break if she ever told him the truth.
"It's almost 8. I'll just go now," she said as she shuffled under his arm until she got off the bed. She turned back to look at him and took a sigh of relief when he turned on his stomach with his head away from her.
She opened the wardrobe and figured she should alternate between sarees and shalwar kameez. But being a new bride, she took out a light and red saree. She quickly wore one of her nightclothes before dashing to the bathroom.

"Didi, why are you wearing this?" Adi asked as he picked at her pallu. Khushi chuckled and shrugged her shoulders. "I have to now. You don't like it?"
"You look too old," he said and sat down at the dining table as he waited to be served. Avni came in and smiled as soon as she caught sight of Khushi. She went and put her arm around her in a loving way. "Are you okay?" She asked quietly making Khushi's cheeks burn crimson red. "Yes, I'm fine!" She quickly busied herself before any more questions could be asked.
"Khushi, I'll be gone all day today. There's a woman in labour and she had complications with her last pregnancy so we need to be by her side the entire time," Avni said as she finished making soup in the pressure cooker and placed it on the counter. "Would you rather stay home or go with me?"
Stay home to cook and clean or go with Avni and watch a baby pop out of a woman? Khushi picked the first option. "I'll stay home. I don't want to see that stuff."
Avni chuckled and put Adi's tiffin on the dining table for him to take it before heading to school. "It'll happen to you eventually - it's better to be well informed of it."
Khushi made a face and shook her head. "It's okay. I'd rather be uninformed." She said and walked with Avni to the porch. As her mother-in-law walked away, she waited for Adi until he finally came and ran with his tiffin in one hand and his bag on his back in scare that he would be late...again.
She thought of waking Arnav but the dishes on the counter seemed to need her attention more. Quickly washing everything, she went to the living room and smirked at an idea. She sat down on her king's throne and took pleasure of her action too. He wouldn't be able to say anything to her. She wouldn't let the chair go without a fight.
But waiting around and doing nothing got boring. She looked down at her flat tummy and felt it as if there was a baby there. She wanted her own little prince. Perhaps it was too soon to ask, but she eyed the picture of a toddler Adi and smiled at how cute he was, meanwhile hoping that her baby would be equally cute.
She froze and moved her eyes to look at the side. The lion had woken and his hard look showed that someone was in his territory. She relaxed her shoulders and gave him a flirty smile and he slowly walked towards her - ready to pounce. "Did I say you could sit here?" He asked with an amused expression.
"It's my right now - I'm the king's queen now aren't I?"
He put his hands on the arms of the chairs and leaned down to stare her square in the eyes. "You can sit here only on one condition," he said in a low and throaty voice making her eyebrows shoot up. "Oh yeah?"
"On a bet. I want to see how much control you have," he said and she shrugged her shoulders like that wasn't a very big challenge. He kissed her temple and kept his eyes open for a reaction. Khushi didn't find it too bad - but not for long. He moved down to her soft cheek and she still remained still. He traced his lips along her jaw and observed her impressive control. Her breathing was even normal and that slightly bothered Arnav.
He grabbed her chin and lifted it to give him full access. He pressed his lips against hers and smiled against them as he felt her suck in a mouthful of air. He continued to tease her lips with his and took pleasure in her tightly closed eyes and how her chest was rising and falling as her heart beats accelerated. He used his other hand to cup her face. He felt her lips slightly pucker against his before she pursed them in a straight line. "That's cheating," he said and she reluctantly relaxed them.
He gently took her bottom lip between his teeth and tugged on it making her finally push him away. "I don't want to sit anymore," she said as she got up and he caught her from behind - holding onto her waist. He was so tall he easily fit her head under his chin. "You can sit on it whenever I'm not home - but the cub will also want to sit."
She hugged his arms that wrapped around her. "Don't worry - I'll never mind." Her eyes fell on the picture of Adi and Arnav again. "Arnav," she started and tried to look up at him. "I hope our baby will be as cute as Adi."
Arnav's eyes moved to the picture frame and he smiled. "I'm sure he will. Aditya is an angel. He's the only reason why I didn't go on a killing spree," he said with a chuckle but Khushi didn't find that funny. She pryed his hands off and turned to gape at him. "What do you mean?"
"Because of my dad. I was a raging beast for months before Adi was born. If you think I was bad when you first met me - then it's really not comparable to how I was. I'm definitely not proud of it though," his tone changed as his memories became bitter.
"You never told me exactly what happened," she said and squeezed his hand reassuringly. His eyes furrowed in pain. "He was his best friend - "
"Who was?" Khushi asked.
"Surya."
[Amit Sravna 37 years ago]
Arun and his greatest friend since the age of nine walked down the rows of the mustard flowers. He rolled up his sleeves of his kameez to allow the light drizzle hit his forearms. "Do you think our boys will be friends like we are?" Surya asked and Arun let out a bellowed chuckle.
"God, who knows? Let's find brides for ourselves first," he said and they continued their walk through green fields until they walked into the forest.
"They have to be - they would be spending all their times together. And if we also have girls, then I'd want my son or daughter to marry your son or daughter." Surya went on with his happy thoughts and Arun simply smiled at the sweet picture he was painting. "Done. We're already like brothers - the bond will become more legitimate if our children marry."
They made their way to the rocks where they sat down and started skipping rocks in the stream that led into the rushing river. "This place is beautiful. My 19 years of living have been spent here and I still can't get enough of it. You know how some people don't appreciate where they live? That's not the case for me at all," Surya stared off into the far view of endless green treetops and the sweet splashing sounds of the waterfall.
Arun glanced at Surya and brought his hand up to pat his friend on the back. "You're incredible. I've never seen someone so passionate; even in his speech. And I agree with you by the way - it's like a fairytale setting. You know abba always says the waterfalls are the one reason why he didn't give up on this place. He put his whole life into this land."
"He did the best thing. I wish I were alive earlier to make this place my own," Surya said and Arun nodded in accordance.

"Arun!" Surya exclaimed as he ran towards his friend's retreating back as he walked towards the farm. They had reduced to just friends though - time and difference of ideologies pushed them apart.
"Hey! How are you?" Arun asked as he went inside the barn house to grab a hay bale to throw it over the fence for the cows.
"Arun, I've come up with a great idea - it's going to change life here beautifully!" He said excitedly and helped him haul more hay from the barn to the field. "What is it?" Arun asked, busy at the task at hand.
"You're the direct heir of the land right? Listen to me buddy, let's join together to make this place big. We join as partners, give access to tourists, and we split the money!" He stopped speaking when Arun gave him an incredulous look. "What the hell are you talking about?"
"Arun, why is it so hard to understand? You're living on money! Take advantage," Surya still said with optimism but Arun's changed expression to a stern face made him stare at him with a blank face.
"This is our home, Surya, not a goddamn attraction site! Did you forget how hard my father worked for this place? Don't mention it again." Arun turned to leave but Surya grabbed his forearm to stop him.
"You've become a mountain lamb! Sticking to old ideologies? Wouldn't you want to improve this land? Don't worry, I'm sure Ajit uncle will support it if we convince him well."
Arun jerked his arm away and stood eye level to Surya. "You call me a mountain lamb and then you still want me to run to my father to convince him? You don't even wave at me when you see me around nowadays but just because of your greedy desires, you've come to talk to me? Like we're best friends?"
Surya's jaw clenched at hearing the harsh words. "Don't forget Arun that even I love this place! I want the best for our people!"
"You said it yourself: our people. I don't want people disrupting our peace. I don't want this place to become a resort!" Arun shouted and Surya's eyes widened and his brows furrowed in rage.
"You say 'our people' and yet you won't tolerate any ideas?! Even I am a member of this land! I was born and raised here so don't I have some rights?" He shouted in defense and Arun almost laughed at his last words.
"WHAT RIGHTS? Did you work your ass to pay off for this land? You haven't actually done any heavy-duty labour like my father did. Look Surya, if you've upset me with this, then just imagine what it would do to abba. Please just drop it." Arun bore his penetrating gaze on Surya before turning on his heels and walking away with a hurt heart.

Surya forced his way through Arun to go to a deadly sick Ajit who was lying on his bed with his eyes half closed. "Chacha, please give me a portion of this land. Please chacha, I won't ever ask for anything. Please just give me a tiny portion."
Ajit's eyes closed shut and a tear escaped the corner. Arun pushed Surya out of the way and kneeled by his father. "Abba," he started but didn't know what more to say. Ajit opened his eyes again and stared at Surya with betrayal present in his expression. "I will never allow you to use an inch of this land for business," he said in his croaky voice and Surya stared dumbstruck.
He lowered his head and let out a heavy sigh. "Okay chacha," was all he said before he walked out, but not before throwing a death glare at Arun.
Arun went out after him and when he was a good distance away from home, pushed at Surya's back. He tripped forward before turning to grab onto Arun's collar. "Don't touch me!"
"You're not welcome here anymore! You've broken abba's trust and mine. I swear I loved you with all my heart - I considered you my brother! But you ruined that! Just leave Surya: just leave to keep the peace so it doesn't get worse."
"Do you think I'd live in a place like this? You're greedy! My proposal was for a better future for this place but-"
"No Surya! Your proposal was for a better future for you! But why are you out for so much? You can't deny it - you were living a good life! But you want more! Why aren't you grateful for what you have?" Arun spoke sadly for the pathetic man in front of him.
"Who doesn't want more? I don't want to live an average life - I want to live like a king!" He yelled and pushed Arun back then ran his shaking hands through his hair.
"Live like a king from your heart, Surya. I know you're capable of it," Arun said softly but Surya's headshake suggested that was not going to cut it for him. "I personally cut all ties with everyone here. I'm done. I'm no longer an Amit Sravnan. I'll be leaving the first chance I get. Tell chacha that I'm done here." He took quick and long steps until he was out of Arun's sight and out of his life.
