I think it was a very beautiful yet sweet, mature yet teenage-ish scene.
This wish of his holds an importance in his life and for their future life. He just wants to make sure she is at peace so he can be at peace as well. The tears in his eyes were tears of happiness and gratitude for having a girl like Zoya in his life.
I loved the scene: unique, unusual, well executed and a very deep meaning.
